Looking back on the RE Engine Era of Resident Evil + thoughts on the upcoming Requiem and the future of Resident Evil.

The RE engine era of Resident Evil has been an interesting one. One that got the series back on track after moving as far away as possible from its roots. A welcome return to its survival horror beginnings. It's not to say they abandoned action altogether. They did experiment with a blending of the two. Of course, we also saw remakes, remakes, remakes. Ones of various quality. Some much lesser than others.

With REquiem and the series 30th anniversary on the horizon, I wanted to take a look back on this era of Resident Evil that started with 7. I'll give my thoughts on each title, along with ranking them.

I'll also give my thoughts on the upcoming Requiem with what's Capcom's shown so far.

Finally, I'll give my thoughts and concerns of the series moving forward. Spoiler alert - one of those concerns involve the rumored future remakes. With that, let's dive in.

00:00 - Prelude
01:25 - Resident Evil 7
11:10 - Resident Evil 2 Remake
20:59 - Resident Evil 3 Remake
28:08 - Resident Evil Village
34:50 - Resident Evil 4 Remake
40:30 - Ranking the RE Engine Titles
42:33 - Thoughts on the Upcoming Resident Evil Requiem
44:42 - Thoughts & Concerns on the Future of Resident Evil Series
51:56 - Post-Video Q&A

Easily the worst era.

For me, RE with RE Engine always look "cheap" instead of games AAA Capcom games running on MT Framework at their time. I don't know why.

And this engine have a shitty problem of Brightness / Gamma, this is so ridiculous.

Save for the fact that Revelations 1 and 2 are peak, to me those are the real RE5 and RE6.

As for RE engine, personally I love it, it's the modern graphics engine that looks the most "Japanese", like a clear evolution from games like the RE Outbreak games.

What exactly makes it "look" Japanese? I couldn't tell you exactly, except you know it when you see it.

7>2>4>8>3...

I wish they went for more interactivity, gameplay feels too limited and on rails for this era of RE games to me.
