Ok. Question. Why the fuck are you just taping this when you could be saving this little boy? (Because its newsworthy and all we want is money).

wha....what? The news networks are doing exactly what their job is, to cover the story. What the fuck do you WANT them to do, act like nothing's happening? They can't do SHIT to help the kid, let the professionals handle it.

Think the only thing you could do would be some kind of a big net... but how to get close to the thing without disturbing it's flight...

assuming the child is still inside, they could helicopter rescue it for sure at the right altitude right?
I think the wind is going to make that a problem. There's no way they could chase that thing with any sort of accuracy necessary for a safe rescue.

Are you kidding me? You want people that have no idea how to take down a balloon to attempt this? There is literally nothing they can do. Their helicopters aren't fast enough to even get close.
Hook something onto it. Idk. There's gotta be something. Instead there just sitting there recording like its nobody's business.

Wow, 900 feet. Going down fast.

I can't believe some of you are complaining about what they're doing. Obviously the safety of the kid is the most important thing. If he is in there, one wrong thing and he could die.

How do you propose they save them? They probably are only skilled at taping traffic reports and car chases.

their camera could turn into a grappling hook that magically slows down the trajectory and keeps the balloon from not exploding from any possibile friction it causes and bring it down safely next to the helicopter without it being eaten by the helicopter's rotary blades.

My best estimate at how to salvage this: Use a Bi-plane, wing walking, grabbing the tether rope, gently tug it closer to the ground....

Now there saying its a special balloon. The outer end is suppose to deflate and it should come down slowly on its own power because of the center. It may land at a slow speed so the kid actually has chance of walking away from it.

Yeah, you're as dumb as I think you are. Go make another Christmas desktop thread.

A doctor said if the kid was breathing pure helium he'd asphyxiate in a matter of minutes. He's been in there for over 2 hours.

MSNBC is saying that unless there is a separate, sealed compartment in there then the kid has been breathing helium and not oxygen, and the kid would be long passed out by now.

its obviously got a door of some kind if he is inside

ps colorado has some beautiful scenery

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned Baby Jessica... I was more thinking about that cartoon from back in the day when the kid threw his walkie-talkie in the well and was hiding in the barn.
The only witness to this kid getting into the balloon was his brother who is also very young. What are the chances that this whole thing is a hoax perpetrated by a 6yo and 8yo?

The craft looks like it has string straps, could there child have holding on to something attached to the string or he is that base compartment of it?

dude, seriously? seriously?

I really hope the kids okay, but some of you guys need to watch less movies holy crap. Arnold is not going to pop out of the woodwork with his Harrier and hook the balloon on one of his sidewinder missles and save the day.

Has this been answered?
Where the fuck were his parents and how the fuck did this happen?

Well he crawled into it and then helium, being lighter than air, took him into the sky.

They newscasters have mentioned a few times that it's not necessarily moving as fast as it looks, since they're looking at it through a zoom lens. Still pretty crazy though, obviously.

the strings kept it tied to the ground to stop it flying away

jesus christ, i'm at school right now so i can't watch any video of this (no flash players on school browsers), but reading the running commentary in this thread is exhilarating and fucking terrifying at the same time

there's no way to watch this on youtube or something that doesn't require flash 10, is there? CNN's video player doesn't work here

Have any of you ever been in a hot air balloon?

A change of 500 feet goes rather quickly in a controlled environment...and this is descending at a much slower rate, not to mention only going at 15-20 mph.

If the emergency crews can get close enough once it gets close to the ground to help slow it down and steady it, the landing will go ok.
