Boycotting MW2/Activision by buying it used.. anyone?

buying 360 version day one.
.

CoD4 multiplayer was TOO addictive, and MW2 looks like it'll be a shit-ton of fun. I loved CoD4's matchmaking as well, so I don't really give a shit about dedicated servers to be honest.

Day one 11/10/09 =)

i'll get it used just like i did COD4.

i'll buy games new that really deserve my money, and when i feel that the devs/publisher actually appreciates the consumer. like From Software/SCEJ/Atlus with Demon's Souls. i bought that shit twice and dont feel dirty.

Not buying it because of the "support" Modern Warfare got. One map pack with one map that was recycled from the single player and is also terrible (broadcast). One map that was nothing but a snipefest (creek). One map that I got to play like 3 times over the course of a year (killbox). Chinatown was ok but not worth 1/6 the games retail price.

Also they never came up with anything new as far as playlists go. Then you look at Halo 3 and wonder why the hell so many people still play CoD4.

Was going to buy it on the PS3.

But I was a PC gamer before, so I know the hurt you guys are going through. Trust me. I played COD1 and 2 religiously. I was also a server admin for the half-life mod Natural Selection, so I know the greatness that comes from having your own server, customizing it your own way, building a community of regulars.

I promise you this.

On November 10th, I will walk into my store, go to the PS3 section, and pick up Uncharted 2.

MW2 will most likely get raped up the ass with 4-5 expensive map packs, and you think that's a good thing?

As long as they keep a seperate playlist for people without DLC I'm not buying any. If they do make it so I can't play MP without DLC then the game goes bye bye.

Who gives a shit about the company behind a great game? Activision are jerks, but IW and the Modern Warfare IP are too good to be boycotted.

Haha, there are always fools like you in boycott threads. It wouldn't be a boycott if you weren't going to buy the game because it sucks.

I'm complaining about the quality of the map pack. If it gets 4-5 good map packs then sure. You have a huge player base and you just leave them to rot with the same shit for 2 years.

At least it's nice to know that PC gamers aren't going to take this shit. That's what I love about them - they have standards. :D

As for me, I won't be buying this, but then again, I only enjoy FPSs with uniqueness in them (L4D/TF2/Portal, for instance), not some another war-themed game.

Not buying. I'll rent or something. Maybe. Unlike most of you here, I'm not letting Infinity Ward off the hook and placing blame entirely on Activision here. IW is most definitely in the position to say "No" to damn near any demands Activisions attempts to make. They like being with Activision and support them. They are just as guilty as Activision right now.

So, any future karma that comes their way after the death of the FPS genre (which is all they can make) will be much deserved.

I played MW1 on 360 and have to switch to PC for MW2, So long as there isn't horrid lag I don't mind.

Pc games just love to complain about shit.
L4D2 for example.

Why do you hate the Shift key? No, I'm serious. It's right there, next to the Z. It makes capital letters. Someone of your genetically-engineered superintelligence must be making a concerted effort to miss it. It's the proverbial camel-breaking straw when it comes to reading your posts. Coupled with that fucked up manatee/seal/whatever, it's just....forget it.

As usual, trying to organize something like this will prove overwhelmingly futile. But sure. Been planning on getting it from an ebay equivalent since the UK price hike. I would like for high profile games to not cost 10-20% more while I get nothing in return thank you very much.

I don't understand why this is such an appealing offer for so many. You're paying more for nothing, or in the case of the PC version, more for less. You are all willing fools and it is sad. The only excuse for your existence should be ignorance. And that's the shittiest excuse ever.

wait so let me get this straight OP, you are boycotting MW2 because the PC version won't have dedicated servers by buying a used copy...of the Xbox360 version?

I'm either borrowing it from a friend to knock out the campaign or buying it well after release, used. And for the exact reason - I know that 10 million people are going to give Activision their money, but I refuse to.

I'm considering stopping my PC pre-order and picking it up in the future if it's ever cheap. I'm not boycotting it or anything; they're just making a much less interesting product that I'm supposed to pay a premium for. Ignoring the recent news of the PC version multiplayer getting nerfed, the game failed to catch my interest. Single player seems like it's going to be the same dull campaign that CoD4 had; Spec-Ops, which I was most excited for because it was compared to the best part of CoD4 single player, the epilogue, seems fun enough; Multiplayer just seems crazy (not in a good way). CoD4 multiplayer was a blast, and I'm not saying MW2 won't be fun too, but from videos and impressions it seems like nonsense. Whenever I hear them talk about how "oh, each killsteak has a counter-killstreak!" I'm just thinking: yeah, but you probably have to unlock that shit by playing for hours. Several hours of getting destroyed because some guy is going around with a heartbeat sensor on his gun and dropping cruise missiles around the stage. CoD4 didn't seem nearly as bad about becoming overpowered at higher levels; though, I might be over thinking things. Now, bringing up the way they're handling online on PC, I can't even find a good reliable server to play.

Then I think about what I would spend $60 on this. Hoping spec-ops mode will be fun and that the multiplayer isn't as messy as I'd imagine? that's a hard sell considering the other games coming out around that time. I'm sure the game will be popular enough that the online community will still be there in the months after release. It's just hard to justify the purchase now. It's actually making me reconsider getting Assassin's Creed 2 on 360 instead of waiting months for the PC verison.

And for what it's worth, the Xbox 360 version isn't suffering at all. That's the main focus for the game and nothing they do with the PC version with affect console game sales. The "boycott" would give Activision/IW more reason to ignore the PC even more.

For real. So say the hoster has a shit game. He quits the game and the rest of the server has to find a new game?

They've demoed mid-game host-switch functionality that appears to be fairly robust... in the lab. ;) I honestly hadn't even thought of that issue.

Huh. It seems you obviously have no knowledge of pc games, without dedicated servers there will be horrible lag and host advantage, you want to play like that and shell out 60 nucks?

Yes? So? I feel for PC gamers because I used to be one. Hell I would still be playing on PC if I had the money for it. I already posted the same response somewhere else itt when someone asked me the same question. How can I not buy the PC version when I wasn't buying it to begin with.

Plus it's not like this is the only reason, it's the final straw for me. I think it's a ridiculous way to treat your fanbase who are a big part of what made IW big.

This way they will know that more people will buy only the console version and when MW3 comes out the PC version will have to be more like a console port. No more pesky mouse and keyboard controls , leaning, etc., etc.

While I revile Bobby Kotick's attitude I have just this year purchased: GH Smash Hits, GH 5, and MUA 2. I plan on buying DJ Hero and Band Hero. So yeah, I'll be getting MW2 day one new. I'm so far up Activision's ass it wouldn't make a difference personally:lol

Boycotting your boycott by buying two copies!

Bought the MW2 360 from Amazon, but want to play at midnight, so am getting the Hardened edition too.

i'm just confused, it sounds like he never really had any interest in the PC version regardless. Even if it did have dedicated servers, he would not have bought it anyway...what a stupid boycott.

If there is horrible lag then the shit-storm is justified.

What makes you think MW3 is going to come out on PC? MW2 for PC looks like a trojan horse designed to get people to switch to the console version en masse.

The joke is on them, when the next console generation comes along they'll get to spend money figuring out the new hardware while the odds are pretty good directx9 games will still be as viable as they are today.

It isn't a question of if, it is a question of when and how often. Peer connections are inherently less reliable than hosted servers. Even the best matchmaking software won't be able to predict that the the wife of the guy---with a great looking connection---who it chose as host would decide to cook something in the microwave, interfering with his wifi connection.

With a dedicated server, each player can see how well he pings to the server before the game even starts. If his connection goes to shit during the game, no big deal, somebody else takes his place.

With P2P, you can't pick the host and when the host has an iffy connection it may not be iffy enough to get the p2p code to decide on a host switch, but still be iffy enough to make the game crappy.

Boycotting it by buying used hurts IW. I don't think it's very nice nor fair to not reward IW for their hard work, if you want to play it, just because you may dislike their publisher. In fact, it's pretty fucking childish, tbh.

However, I will refuse to pay full price for this :lol I don't know what the new price will be in Sweden next month but Gamestop have a sort of nice trade-in deal that I would be even more stupid not to take advantage of.

I was going to boycott this. But then I thought about for a few more seconds.

P2P equals horrible lag by PC standards.

Do you really think IW don't have veto rights on stuff like fucking the PC community? MW2 is Actvision's biggest release this year and Activion basically would have to bend over and take it in whatever IW wants to ram in there.

2 moths ago I would of called this dumb and pointless.....

Now, I don't care if it's either of those things, FUCK Activision. I'm not buying period. Count me in

I'm buying it. New. Day one.

For 360 though

Also, why are you guys bitching so much? COD has great net code, I don't see a problem here.

Infinity Ward didn't split the audience with COD4's map pack. The only company that I know has disabled most of the matchmaking systems for people without DLC is Bungie with Halo 3.

You can't play on maps with 3-4 times the number of players the map was designed for without servers.

Ofcourse there is going to be lol.

And Scooter did you even read my response to your post? You are right I had no intention of buying the PC version so they aren't losing a sale from the PC version, but I can damn well not buy a brand new 360 version.

Will it inherently lag more on pc P2P then 360?
Luckily Amazon are great on returns so if it is shit I wont be fucked.

Oh GAF, I do love all of the empty threats and sternly worded posts leading up to a big game's release. Never stop being you.

So much blind dismissal in this thread. IT'S STUPID TO HAVE OPINIONS, JUST BUY THIS GAME.

I'd love to say that i'm boycotting this game, but realistically I was never going to buy it in the first place. feels disingenuous to call that a boycott.

I'm just not buying it at all, or any other Activision games for that matter.

Plus I think I'm doing pretty well, last game I bought was Ultimate Spider-Man back in 2005.

So buying it new you support the shitty Activision, however buying it used you support the much worse and SHITTER Gamestop...decisions decisions.

Depends on where you live. We don't have Gamestop so.

MMaRsu shills Brutal Legend incessantly and now advises against buying Modern Warfare 2...

I'm beginning to think he's either an EA employee or Tim Schafer :lol

j/k - but a boycott of MW2? Not going to fly around here.
