I've probably gotten like 6 people to watch, and they've all gotten people to watch. Rough estimate, I'm responsible for 6 million viewers.

I was watching an episode of The Equalizer the other day (love this series, but that's beside the point, and probably shouldn't be otherwise mentioned in the same paragraph as Breaking Bad).

I didn't even realize this was good 'ol Giancarlo as a sleazy handgun salesperson until his name showed up in the credits!

His voice was even more surreal. Too legit to quit!

I'm guessing the videotape of Jesse cooking meth in Mexico will come back into play.

No, he was all suited up with the mask, no chance being identify.

Or maybe sometimes he's having his mask off...

Oh sh...

I've gotten a couple relatives to watch the show, but I've never met someone in the general public IRL who watches.

Someone random once completed me when I was wearing my BB shirt. We just both agreed the show was "sooo good" and parted our ways. lol

I kind of hope they ditch the serious, obvious plot for the last season (Hank/Walt) and instead opt for a spinoff-esque series about Goodman and Mike. WOULD BE THE BEST.

Show jumped the shark after season 2.

So how many people did you guys get hooked on this show? I got like 3 people to start watching it like a month ago. They all caught up to the finale.

Nobody can resist the awesome.

My GF, two friends, and three colleagues. :D

So is it just me, or is it weird seeing people refer to Bryan Cranston as the dad from Malcolm in the Middle or Hal now? I've seen two different people on GAF say that right now and it tripped me out o_O

Malcolm lasted longer. And that's how you recognize him from Breaking Bad.

When BB is over and we're talking about Cranston on his next show, we all should mention him as Walt. :p

Hal is one of the finest television characters in history. Walt got some time to go before he can even come close to a classic

So that's why :)

AVC: When did you decide to have Walter’s revenge dovetail with Tio’s revenge? And was the decision to have Gus live after the explosion for a very short while a way to give him a bigger sendoff, rather than just being blown to bits?
VG: I’ll start with the last question first. I always had the image in my mind of this explosion, and once we came up with the idea of Tio being part of Walt’s revenge, once we had that image in mind of the bell ding-ding-ding-dinging and then the explosion coming, I just had this image in my head of Gus stumbling out of the wreckage and giving the audience that extra bit of shock and surprise of, “Oh my God! He’s like Superman! How did he survive this?” And then the camera coming around and revealing that half his head was gone. That was just this image I saw in my imagination, and luckily our special effects, makeup folks, and visual-effects producer brought it to fruition.
From a practical standpoint—and I learned this from previous experience and previous seasons of Breaking Bad—it seemed to me that I’d better make this death as concrete as possible for the audience. Otherwise, there would be a large portion who couldn’t get their minds around it, who wouldn’t quite believe it if they didn’t see it with their own eyes. In other words, even if you saw the explosion and then you saw some pile of unrecognizable bodies afterward, there’d be folks who would never believe that Gus had been there, that he escaped at the last second and he’d be back next season. I kinda wanted to take that off the table. I’m tickled by that desire on the part of the audience to not believe what they see, because I think it comes from a very good place. I think it comes, in this case, from a desire that Gus Fring stay a part of the show. If, in other words, folks said, “We didn’t see him get blown up, so maybe he’s going to come back next year,” I think that’s a very positive desire or fantasy or wishful thinking on the part of the viewer, because they love the character so much. Having said that, I wanted to make it crystal clear that he had not survived.

For me, it's not so much wishful thinking as it is just being conditioned by countless years of cop-out TV and movie writing. There have been FAR too many times where a character will be seen in a situation that would mean certain death, but then it turns out that they miraculously survived. I know there have been lots of examples of it, but the only one I can think of offhand is, oddly enough, from Smallville:
One character goes into a house, and seconds later, it explodes. We're all left to presume that she's dead, but it actually turns out that someone was in the house and lead her into an escape passage before the house actually exploded
.

Finished the show in about a month. Holy shit at the finale. I also read the grantland finale writeup and loved this:

It’s been speculated elsewhere that the shot a couple weeks ago at the end of “Crawl Space” that made it look like Walt was cackling in a grave really did mark the death of “Walter White” and the completion of his transformation into a full-time Heisenberg.

That's just awesome.

Nope, sorry. I had to take a picture off of my television set. :)

It's very brief, and then the protagonist of the show shoves Giancarlo Esposito's head through a car window. And.. scene!

Definitely don't agree that the show jumped the shark after season 2, but I will say that Season 2 is still my favorite season and there was definitely a tonal shift in the show in season 3.

Show jumped the shark after season 2.

If anything, S4's finale might be looked at as the shark jump moment.

Hard to tell when the show just makes stuff up on the fly (no pun intended). The writers did not know Gus was going to die until the middle of this season? Crazy lol

I think the reason seasons 3/4 aren't as good as 2 is that 2 was planned. They knew how it was going to end from the beginning. But 3/4 they just made shit up along the way, they didn't even know what they were going to do with Tuco's cousins when they introduced them, and they ended up dying six episodes into the season.

I think S3's final couple episodes were the only ones in this whole series that suffered from poor planning. The plane stuff could've used more appropriate foreshadowing (and believability), but outside of all that, it does surprisingly well either made up or planned along.

Er, I'm assuming you mean S2? That was the one with the plane crash.

And you thought the plane crash needed MORE foreshadowing? Seriously? If anything, the problem was that it was foreshadowed way too much. I still maintain that if it had just happened out of the blue without all the flash-forwards all season hinting that something big was going to happen, it would have worked much better.

What was wrong with S3's final two episodes? I thought they were some of the best the show's ever had.
Also, S2 was completely planned out from start to finish. The foreshadowing was deliberately misleading, you weren't supposed to guess the ending.

Have not read any posts in this thread, and don't plan to, but I just finished Season 3 and I MUST know where I can get Season 4! Is there any legal outlet? I see all of the episodes are up on iTunes, is there a more pragmatic way to go about watching them?

Also, when is the blu ray going to be released?!

There's not much more pragmatic than buying them from iTunes.

Cheers, didn't know if there was a collection released elsewhere yet. Its just going to be a pain in the ass buying all 13 episodes individually.

They're also in HD, yes?

It's funny that Vince said people wouldn't believe Gus was gone unless they saw a body because we never saw Tyrus and people are already saying he escaped somehow and is the force behind season 5.

It's like he knows us

Pretty iTunes offers the ability to buy the whole season, and yeah, in HD. It's possible that season options end when the season's over, but I doubt it. The Season just ended so Blu Ray is a way off. New season starts next summer so probably around then.

I'm guessing the Blu-Ray will come out March 2012
