Oh my god. What a fantastic premiere. I watched it with my brother, we were both cringing at the sight of the
throat slit
. So intense. The writers know how to create riveting scenes with little dialogue, that is also a testament to how great the actors are of course. I feel terrible for Hank :\ Also, this episode managed to be pretty funny. I thought it was hilarious how Walt's new white pants were too big. He pulled them up with the awesome music playing at the end.

I like where this season is headed. Can't wait to see more.

I think Gus was kind of out of his element by killing Victor the way he did. Here is a man who talks about how fear tactics are inefficient and repeatedly looks down on the way the cartels do their business. Yet he brutally murders Victor in hopes to scare Walt, Jesse and Mike. He committed a monstrous act out of necessity, and I think he is clearly frustrated and beginning to show his true self. And this is what will lead to his downfall (at least in my opinion).

The greatest strength Gus had was his composure and professionalism (a cardinal trait he brings up on numerous occasions), along with the fact he was the silent, intimidating businessman, and not a cold blooded killer.

And its fairly obvious that Victor was killed because he was at the crime scene (and possibly for his lack of respect for chemistry). I don't think he was at fault for not keeping Gale alive because clearly Gus ordered the murder of Walt, and recall Victor was in charge of bringing Walt to lab where he was going to be killed. Gale's death is definitely Gus' fault, as he for whatever reason did not have anyone watching over him.

Interesting point. What you said made me think of something I caught on my rewatch of S3 (or maybe S2).

Its the cold open where the Cartel cousin's are kids playing and Don Salamanca is on the phone. Tio is talking to someone about Gus working for the Cartel. He says something about "Pollo/Fry Cook" and not trusting "the South American". Maybe an indication that Gus wasn't always such a well composed-professional?

I'm thinking this season we will see a bit more history on Gus. After this premier, i'm sure many of us are intrigued of what makes this guy tick.

Wow, such an awesome premiere!

The wire cutter scene was so intense, gotta love the way Gus handles his business. :D

The premiere was really, really damn good. The whole gus scene without any words at all was just absolutely perfect, really shows how good this show is.

Just like last season, I cannot, I absolutely cannot wait to see where this is headed. The world can't have enough breaking bad in it :)

It's a complicated issue. I understand Walt's position but then there is his family to think about as well, not just him.
I love the show but the whole idea how everything got started is just ridiculous.

I don't take charity ! I rather murder people, place my whole family in danger and I will keep doing this even though shit has hitted the fan more then few times. Abusrd.

I still love Breaking Bad and it's second best show if not the best show currently airing. I just hope they won't drag this show for too long. I hope S5 will be the last season. Oh and first episode of 4th season was great. The whole Gus scene with the box cutter was kinda cliche and the slow building of the scene didn't really serve any purpose and it has been done million times before.

Watched the first episode of season 4. And there is just one word that can describe it : Awesome. I liked the emotional side of the first 5 minutes (the flashback was brilliant).

Wow, you really went off the fucking deep end as a poster and just turned into a joker/troll, didn't you?

Joker? Troll? There's nothing funny or trollish about thinking that Skyler White is among the worst characters in the history of television and that fucking Ted was one of the lowest acts ever performed by a major character.

definitely not one of the series' better episodes. slow and predictable, not much noteworthy happening until the end reveal. didnt hate it, but didnt love it either.

the Gus scene did nothing for me.

im sure the season will be fun, but like someone already mentioned, they need to end this series before it starts to get stale. i love the show, but i can easily see it going on for too long and eventually leaving a bad taste. one more season tops and even that might be pushing it for me.

hopefully S4 keeps the entertainment value high enough. i think it probably will.

I think the series really needed this calm, silent episode after S3's finale. But I'll agree that I pretty much don't care about Walt and Jessie's safety anymore. They are invincible for the time being. If Skyler or Walt's son had been in this room, I would have been a lot more tense.

i agree with that. the finale last season was balls to the wall. no need for the premiere to be like that as well.

it wasnt a bad ep, just made a few missteps i thought.

but the slow nature of the ep is a good idea, because the season will ramp up from here for sure.

Just watched the premier and what a great episode. Its good that they took a more slowed approach after season's 4 final, gave time to breath and setup the next chapter. Gus always scared me, but how slow they did the kill in this episode and builtup really makes me terrified of him more. I can't wait for next week, bring on the goodness.

ebay hero?

"Hero" is an industry term for the version to be used in the final shoot. Like John McClane's "hero" shirt would be the one with the accurate amount of wear used in the bank sequence. That was the final version of that eBay mock up to be used on camera, I'd guess.

"Slow." "Predictable."

I feel like I watched a completely different episode.
I can get why people found this slower then usual, but predictable? Yeah, nothing about this whole episode was predictable.

The episode was "predictable", but I thought the execution was top notch. It dramatically reestablished a handful of characters' position in the world without a whole lot of dialogue. I really respect that.

It was pretty predictable in the sense that we knew what Gus was going to do to that latino guy, and how Gus would let Walt and Jesse cook again.

EDIT-Exactly what Rez said.

Still STILL don't get how people saw that coming. Still. Days later.

To be honest, I thought it would be Mike who'd be forced to do the dirty work.

Well, I knew Gus was prepping to kill someone, and I knew Victor had been seen by witnesses.
Actually I thought Mike would do the dirty work, Gus has never really been seen doing the dirty work. This made it more chilling.

It wasn't about fear. it was to send a message and also punishment for Victor. If this was the norm then Mike wouldn't have reacted the way he did. Gus was pissed and it showed.

Also, there's no more motivation. Like Jesse says. They're stuck with each other. It's just about making them wish they were dead.

To me it was obvious that Gus would kill Victor because of how sure and cocky he was acting... and that smug smirk her sported when Gus entered the lab signed his death warrant.

His desperation to show he could cook was the give away imo. Knew he'd fucked up and was now expendable.

I thought he seemed like a bit of a dick, or just kind of annoying.

Wait, what part of that made him seem like a dick? He was in a great mood and brought fake meth for the audience!!

I want some of that blue meth he showed on Conan! I need it!

Wow. Interesting factoid.

That wasn't a good opener. This episode was probably as much as a 'filler ep' that a season opener can be. Slow and pointless. I can appriciate build-up and tension but this show has the tendency to draw things out in a way that makes the viewer (at leat me) to lose focus and interest in what's happening on-screen.

Did we really need the long, utterless scenes of Guss walking down and up the staris, getting dressed and undressed? Did we need that scene with that guard at Saul's office? Get to the point already, please.
And the ep was pointless, nothing we didn't imagine ourselves. That was pretty lame for a first episode. Gus isn't going to get rid of Walt and Jesse, if he did that would have made all last seaon a joke. But seeing how the ep ended, i am worried that they won't prove to be as irreplacable as they think.

I'm probably hoping against hope but i would like them to explore Jesse more after his actions. I'm afraid that Walt's 'how are you doing' is the most we will get out of him. It was really jarring hearing Walter talking about how he went to great lengths to secure their safery, while it was Jesse who pulled the trigger.

Disappointing episode, and i'm not the series' biggest fan.

Joke post?

This episode was 'filler' in the same way that the episode in Tuco's uncles cabin was 'filler'.

Which is a fuckawesome way to start a season without answering a ton of questions or setting up a ton of storylines.
