I'm usually not much into analysis...but I'd say this episode was really focused on Walt losing control, both at work, and at home.

Walt's ego, fucking things up again.

It's been building all season long.

His wife is back to wearing the pants, no one is paying him any attention, and so and so on, just like when we first met Walter.

Dude is an after thought and he can't stand being in that position again. It's great.

I am not Max
Am I crazy or was the bit where Jesse fends off those guys blocking their stash with a shotgun set up by Gus to make Jesse feel included?

I kind of wasn't paying attention when Mike was visiting Gus at Los Pollos

Clearly :p

But yes, it was set-up by Gus to make him feel good about himself after he had spent so long feeling like shit.

I feel slightly spoiled because Vince Gilligan has talked a lot about the path he has in his mind for Walt. Walt only goes deeper, there is no redemption.

Yes, Gus set it up.

You should pay attention - I hear the show is pretty good. ;)

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Damn it, was in the middle of playing a game and my Tivo has decided it doesn't want to record AMC lately, can someone give me a recap on the first 15 minutes? Gonna rewatch it tomorrow but still wanted to watch the rest of the encore tonight. Thanks.

1. Yes we get it! Purple everywhere!!!
2. Dammit walt! You egotistical bastard.

I loved the episode, mike and jesse making pickups were fun. Walt knows that he holds less in control as others have mentioned.

Also coming from walt running all around town and jesse freaking that mike was gonna kill him to skyler and him at the dinner table was a GREAT transition on how separate these two lives are.

I wonder if Gus intended the coming static between Jesse and Walt. Destroy from within. That slow burn.

yeah i like this

its bothering walt that jesse isnt just some punk for walt to order around anymore

AMC does an immediate reair, at least here on comcast/east coast.

Did you really ever think redemption was a possibility?

But did Gus even know about Gale's notebook?

btw does the theory that mike has lung cancer seem more likely?

that was my thought when he didnt want jesse to smoke

or misguided

I figured the no smoking rule had more to do with Mike wanting to Jesse to be able to handle the work on his own and not needing a cig to settle his nerves.

Nobody is dependent on Walt anymore, or at least he feels that way.

I fully expect a crotch grab and a "*something* THIS!" in the next episode to show people he's wearing the pants.

"the fallacies, fallacies, fallacies"

I google'd that song Jesse is always singing and found this:

how the hell didn't I know about this.
Twaughthammer is the shit.

Did anyone catch the nod to fans when Hank says Gale is like if Mr. Rodgers had sex with Scarface? That's basically how Vince Gilligan has described the show and Walt's transformation many times, except he used some other character instead of Mr. Rodgers.

I love all of the interior shots that they come up with on this show, but it's so liberating when they occasionally film things outdoors.

So whats the consensus? Is Gus trying to give Jesse more control/respect, thereby making him feel more like an equal, something Walt has never done for him, and turning the two against each other? That's what I got from it.

A Walt not being able to listen to Hank call Gale a genius was just amazing.

I think Gus just wanted Jesse to feel like a hero so he starts giving a fuck again and stops being so careless. Jesse being an ass to Walt for it was just a happy coincidence.

I don't know I think it might be something bigger than that. Didn't he say he was working with Mike more that next day? I see Jesse as very much a follower, almost childlike, and if these guys give him some responsibility and the opportunities to feel like he means something, it would be very easy for him to turn on Walt. I may be completely wrong though. I guess we;ll find out.

Yep, that's what I'm thinking.

Wow, good episode.

Amazing how fast things just switched emotionally.

Jesse now feels accomplished and not sadpainface.jpg.
Walt is again becoming wrapped up in his paranoia, powerlessness, and ego.

What Gus setup for Jesse was interesting. It seems like he is the one to finally get Jesse out of his rut, which Walt has been trying to do all this time (for the most part). All that other stuff then building up to Gale being "genius" makes me feel like Walt is going to explode into rage mode at any second.

If anyone can provide or sees a list posted on the internet of all the music played tonight, I'D LOVE THAT.

Badass stuff. Also I agree with the theory above about them possibly trying to turn Jesse.
