Breaking Bad - Season 4 - Sundays on AMC

Pretty good episode. I like the development. Walt was such a fucking idiot during the dinner scene, it's getting harder and harder to like him. that's probably the point, I guess.

e: i knew that Mike wouldn't kill Jesse and that he would motivate him again (called it last week), but I was surprised when Mike said it wasn't his call. that's a pretty good plan from Gus.

Walt frantically driving in traffic and emotionally phoning his wife interspersed with dramatic camera angles showing the Aztec logo encapsulate what makes this show great.

I quite enjoyed this episode. It feels like the show has a bit more forward momentum now.

that's right Skyler fuck Walt not the other way around. She's taking charge. Walt's ego will be the end of him.

Mike's discontent to Gus continues.

oh shit on that end.

This week had some really creative direction that gave it a different feel from the other episodes, and some of the outdoor shots in the jesse / mike road trip sequences were excellent, a really great episode i think. It's kind of funny, how people were complaining about the pacing of the first 3 episodes, but shit seems to be going down in a big way now, good stuff :)

Very great episode. Pieces really feel like they're moving now, and those movements only feel better after the past 3 episodes of build-up. Fan-fucking-tastic.
Oh, and just to say what everyone already says every week and has been said multiple times this week: this cinematography is just beautiful. God. Damn.

I've been thinking about how I think the last 16 episodes would be aired, and I truly don't know. I know I'd prefer all 16 aired straight over one summer or so. But I can't see AMC/Sony not capitalizing on the opportunity for more DVD sales and a longer air period. Hopefully they just do an 8 in spring, 8 in fall kind of thing. I don't want to have two seasons a year apart each of 8 episodes.

Great ep. I'm glad to see Hank is out from his funk and as poster above said the outdoor shots were really good looking from time to time.

Beat EviLore at pool.
I am sticking what I said last week that Gus wants Jesse to turn on Walt fully. I liked seeing Jesse being happy saving Mike. Seeing Mike even start to like Jesse at the end was funny hopefully he wasn't just bullshitting. Fucking Walter though like holy shit keep your mouth shut. The episode was shot brilliantly.

I see them doing it one long run. March Mad Men will air they probably do not want both at once. Then you have the summer months which AMC right now has nothing airing. Fall is Walking Dead which nothing plays after it. Not really sure how long the Killing or Walking Dead will last after their second seasons though. Doing Breaking Bad in one long run would be fucking awesome they should if anything take a month off do not split it up a full year.

Well the
Walt/Skylar hookup
was predictable.
Makes Skylar a little less hatable now I suppose.

DANGGGG that dinner scene was good.

Skyler continues to get worse and worse as a character. WTF, she goes ahead and sleeps with Walt? What about Ted? His feelings don't matter. He's a good-hearted family man and ignored.

Fuck Skyler. She Fucked Walt, man.

I laughed at the part with the Beneke cup.

And man, Walt is proud to the point of sheer stupidity. You've got Hank about to dismiss himself from the case and Walt puts him back on it because his ego was bruised and he yearns so badly for recognition. He hates the fact that he isn't able to be recognized for his chemistry work the way Gale was, and from a DEA agent no less.

Pride is the primary reason for a lot of his detrimental actions throughout the show. It's almost certainly going to be his downfall. Guess Walt never read up on his proverbs.

For some reason, I think Walt has something big planned out and is playing a part now. He seems to make stupid mistakes now from things he already learned from. When he was close to dying and everything else was out of control, Walt was more in control of himself. Now that things are more calm, he is out of control of everything.

I think Walt has a long term plan in place. He is just waiting to see how certain things break before making a huge move. Gus is making big moves of his own and I can see him setting Walt up to take the big fall and for the DEA to think it has been Walt running the meth trade in the area for years. Or Gus is looking for someone to replace him, so he can retire. He is going to let Jesse and Walt develop and then pick the man for the job. It would kind of funny to see Walt taking over Gus position and Jesse turn into a younger Mike heh.

yeah walts and idiot. he's found a way to earn more money than he could ever dream and yet its the recognition that he wants most. if walt can smarten up enough he'll find a way to make Gus appear to be heisenberg and then he can get out completely if he wants.

The look of Hank's face when Walt is propping himself up is just amazing. The type of shit this show does well. There was just a very distinct feeling of heaviness in that scene. I think its the way Cranston had drawn out the monologue in his peculiar Walt way.

If Gus is legitimately trying to motivate Jesse, then why did Mike pull over abruptly to tell him "You're not the guy, you'll never be the guy. We had the guy, but he's gone."?

Well it seemed Mike didn't have faith in him. "you were right, the kids a hero"

He's not grooming him, he's placating him. By making him the hero that once, he's made Jesse less despondent and more relaxed, he's not as much of a liability anymore
E: I don't think mike saying that was part of the plan either, just mike not liking gus' plan

Gus would never groom Jesse for anything. If Gus is still as knowledgeable about his employees as he has been during the character's time on the show, then he probably knows Jesse is using again. Only reason he was kept around despite that fact is Walt, and Gus doesn't need a lazy, careless Jesse fucking things up for him. This was just a morality boost for Jesse is all, although Jesse probably thinks more of it than that.

Mike is following orders, but that doesn't mean he like's Jesse

That's why at the end u see his expression as Gus leaves. Mike is not happy

Great episode and all that.

The motion controlled timelapse was fucking stunning.

I laughed when Jesse was waving the bat or whatever around during that part and you could see a few frames of Mike yelling and gesturing at him.

You already knew Mike wasn't happy when he punched Walt in the face at the bar.

If he knows Walt had a piece and is willing to use it against Gus, why isn't Gus alarmed or the attention brought to him through Mike?

I think he is having an internal struggle. He's been loyal to Gus, but what is happening recently he is questioning that. If he's not just some goon that can be replaced

Great episode. The pickup montage was stunning and I really liked the song that played during it, it fit the scene well. When it comes to cinematography, this show is amazing no matter what happens.
Jesse is getting dat Mike cred dayum!

LOL @ Marie's grocery bags being purple.

Did anyone catch the nod to fans when Hank says Gale is like if Mr. Rodgers had sex with Scarface? That's basically how Vince Gilligan has described the show and Walt's transformation many times, except he used some other character instead of Mr. Rodgers.
Mr. Chips

Was anyone else bothered by the fact that Jesse wasn't wearing a seatbelt during *any* of the car scenes, both the tedious and exciting ones?

It's like, don't tempt fate, boy.

Last nights episode was the best of the season. Every aspect of it was amazing. The tension built up throughout it was so intense. I was on the edge the entire thing. Skyler's face during the dinner scene was perfect. also, walt jr's comment about pushing hank through the car wash had me dying.

You only thought about his seat belt cause he used it as a bandanna.

(that's the only reason I thought what you did)

Given the way he was living his life before Mike picked him up and his ambivalence towards death at the moment, it might be more surprising to me if Jesse was wearing a seatbelt.

During the montage they showed his seatbelt on and then off. He wore it for a little while at least.

So whats the consensus? Is Gus trying to give Jesse more control/respect, thereby making him feel more like an equal, something Walt has never done for him, and turning the two against each other? That's what I got from it.

A Walt not being able to listen to Hank call Gale a genius was just amazing.

Yeah it seems like a classic 'divide and conquer' tactic. Gus doesn't trust drug addicts, but it would serve his purposes to try and drive a wedge between Walt and Jesse. Walt is a necessary evil for him after all, no doubt he's already looking for a replacement.
