The RAGE product placement was borderline offensive. It literally felt like I was watching an advert and the show hadn't started.
Well when the decision is either to use a game that exists and make some money off of it, or spend money on creating a fake game using CG - I think they made the right call.

This show is the most well-shot show on TV. Easily.

The little touches are incredible...and it seems that they are in love with the GoPro.

Also, remember that a week passed during this episode. And Hank is a man that is just the right amount of bull-headed that if he wants something, that mother fucker gets it. So while he was down and mopey before...when he had a reason to work and move, he did it.

It's not the fact that it was Rage, i don't give a shit about product placement, if it's logical, the problem is that the scene was terribly cliched and obnoxious.

With that said, very good episode, Walt is a dumb ass, but the Jesse's group scene was beautiful.

I think I might be Vince Gilligan.

Everything is playing out how I think it would.

the rest of the episode was good. Hank's scene at the end when he's piecing the case together is probably my favourite thing all season.

Wait....there's actually a game called RAGE and that was it?

The whole time I was watching I was thinking how corny they made the faux game. lol

there is a game called RAGE (made by id who also made DOOM and Quake) but it's nothing like that.

Don't understand the product placement hate at all.

Yeah, it's in your face, but it's still being used as a tool to tell the story. Who gives a shit?

Him describing his Challenger to Hank just makes me think that he's trying to stealth brag about one, having the car, and two, that he knows a lot about cars.

People complain about anything.

"Offensive"?

Please.

It was poorly done compared to what they have done in the past.

It was in the opening scene, by the time the story was rolling, I had completely forgotten about it.

And as someone said earlier, if the choice is a scene like that or no show at all...uhhh...

While I have no problem with product placement (see my earlier video link), I do certainly feel that the scene itself was a little cheesy. The intermittent clips of Gale were really cheesy (although we got to see a bit more of the actual shooting) and the restart/quit thing was far too 'on the nose'.

Oh well, the rest of the episode was FUCKING AWESOME.

I don't really buy that as an excuse, personally, though, even though I had no problem with the Placement, it was a weak cold open. Saying it was the opening scene so it was okay neglects the fact that BB has had some of the best cold opens in television history.

Ah ok. Right after the open ended, my first thought was "worst open of breaking bad".

The talk about the car didn't even cross my mind as being product placement. I guess I was too busy enjoying my Maker's Mark whisky, while watching my glorious 52" Panasonic Plasma, whilst my iRobot roomba whisked about so effortlessly.

Wow. How in fuck do you stress a bit of advertising that lasts less than a minute this much?

Anyway, fantastic episode.

I don't think Hank would approve of Walt Jr. working at Los Pollos, considering he is a major suspect. Needless to say Walt wouldn't either. And Jr. might bring up that he'll work there and save up for his own car. Shit is getting real interesting. Can't wait for episode 8.

Hank's boss has long been the victim of speculation on the internet, for the following reasons:

1. Gave Hank a promotion, shipping him off to Mexico, when he was at the peak of his Heisenberg investigation and doesn't even speak Spanish (fairly convincing)

2. People thought he might be the one on the other end of the phone in One Minute (unconvincing)

3. Clearly knows and gets on well with Gus, has worked with him for some time (fairly convincing)

I don't think there's anything overwhelmingly in favour of him being a mole - the first reason is a little suspicious, but the second and third are dubious. It pains me to say it, but the person who looked most uncomfortable during that final scene was Gomez. If anyone's downloaded it, watch how they keep him in frame during the bit where Hank pretends to admit defeat, and then whips out the fingerprint evidence: Gomez' expression is interesting, to say the least.

I'm not totally convinced either way, and feel that it would be pretty lazy writing to have a DEA mole, but we shall see. Also, I made reference to the German corporation in the Los Pollos commercial last year on either AVClub or Hitfix, can't remember which; so great to see it come up again.

I actually noted this at the end of the 7th episode. The looks and overall vibe that Hank's boss gives off is just a little strange and repelling. It feels like he discreetly tries to avoid furthering the investigation, and has done an excellent job doing it thus far. However, what Hank brought up can't be refuted. So now, he might actually be in the shitter.

Saul Goodman: "I gotta warn you, the eighth hole is murder"

Next week's episode: the eighth.

Awesome.

I love the titles this season.

"Shotgun" is the most appropriately titled episode yet.

I watched Pee-Wee's Big Adventure over the weekend with my gf and the movie was absolutely ruined when Pee-Wee pulled out a big box of Mr. T cereal. Oh the product placements!

He's referring to the fact that next week is episode #8 of season 4. It's titled "Hermanos".

...I knew that, too. I saw the sneak peak you posted.

I HAVE BEEN DECEIVED...BY MYSELF!

I think I got spoiled a tiny bit by a casting call for next weeks episode a few months ago. Oh well.

Walt: I think she is cheating on me with a man named 'Hermano'...

Hank: I'll find out who this 'Hermano' is...

It made me cringe. I'm sure it did to most of us gamers who know what it is. Atleast it had a context to Jesse's story for the episode. Jesse in full rage mode is frightening.

I bet that Rage plug payed for the exploding Dodge Challenger.

I have a feeling one of the two cops in the room with Hank (don't remember their names off the top of my head) are dirty. Drug dealers don't get as prolific as Gus without having some much needed inside work.

It's possible that both of his cop friends are dirty, considering they made it a point to establish that Steve is moving up in the ranks. Would be extra tension since Hank and Steve have an established friendship there.

And it’s all because of you, fratello. That’s Italian for “brother,” yeah. Now all I gotta do is find this “Hermano” guy. I’m gonna kill him.

The way I see it, Gomez' promotion was referenced for two reasons:

1) He's going to Washington, which is where Marie wanted Hank's career to lead him.

2) Knowing that Gomez will soon be out of ABQ is a similar trope to the "cop on his final day before retirement, oh shit something's gone wrong" - I suspect that Gomez will be killed by Gus / Mike during his investigation of Los Pollos.

I hope Breaking Bad doesn't go by the books, as far as dirty cops are concerned.

Just for once, I'd like for the cops to be wanting to actually do the right thing.

So for those who saw the promo for next week, who thinks that
Walt and Gus will finally have their long-awaited meeting?

I'm so anxious!

I would like to remind everyone of this observation from the BB season 3 thread, after the episode where Hank got shot.
I still think that either Gus himself or a guy who works with him did the call: Hank would have recognized his boss and also he killed one of the guy that worked with the rival gang right when he needed it.
