Well.... the one positive from this may be David Cameron resigning, though I have a feeling his replacement may be even worse than him.

Hopefully Scotland and N. Ireland vote to leave the UK as a result of this.

lmao

Direct democracy is terrible.

Yup, basically millions of uninformed individuals ignorantly voting through emotion for something that can make a profound negative impact on the livelihoods of many.

Great recipe for fascism

Well, I guess it's our turn. We've not had a fascist Government like certain parts of Europe have, and I suppose that's made us unable to recognise the slippery slope we're now on.

So this referendum is a completely binding obligation?

The government can't just say "nah"?

Technically, this referendum is not binding on Parliament. However, David Cameron pretty much staked his reputation on the result, and has consistently promised to follow the instructions of the electorate. If Britain votes to leave, he will trigger departure immediately. Practically, he'd look illegitimate if he tries to reverse course. Anyone else who tries the same trick after Cameron goes (either by ignoring a leave result or somehow coming up with a second referendum after negotiating with EU officials) would open up a world of hurt, I think. I don't think British voters will appreciate being told to 'vote again and vote the right way'.

One heck of a divided country, that's for sure.

As a Scot that voted No in the indy ref on the sole basis of Currency and EU uncertainty I am gutted that it looks like we will be leaving the EU.

This means that the SNP will have a mandate for another Independence referendum, and it almsot certainly will be different following an EU exit.

Wow.

Scotland should join the US. Pull a double heel turn.

But we don't want your nuclear missiles London forces us to buy, aka Trident.

On that note Trident is now getting to fuck. Another billion upon billion expense London is going to have to cope with.

Sorry England.

The UK is done. Why would Scotland stay now? Get out and join the EU will be their cry. Northern Ireland, as well.

Not to mention the problem with Gibraltar...

I honestly think your news media is straight poison and the largest culprit for UKs derailment of reason and thinking

Hold on, why are all the remain camp rolling out the same crap....we have to realise 49 percent of people have voted to not leave, and we have to think of them....

So,if they won by 2 percent would they be sayin 49 percent of people want to leave the eu so we have to think of them.......would they bollocks

Because it's a drastic action.

Doing something is different from not doing something.

Well think of it like this. IF Scotland leave... that further tips the balance.

Pretty much stick a fork in it at this point.

Looks like Scotland will become independent. I wonder what's gonna happen to Northern-Ireland.

Both should leave. England can't say shit about it either.

Makes me want to give the US Constitution a big ol' hug.

I just kissed a ten dollar bill. Hamilton the GOAT would never put something like this to a simple majority vote. Insane.

So now Scotland will want to leave the UK, and then rejoin the EU, but Spain may try to block them for to dissuade Catalonia from trying anything. It might be a long time before Scotland gets back in.

States?! What the hell are you on about?

We are talking about the UK here, jesus.

I'm talking about democracy in general. In the US. if democratic process was how we approached every decision, we'd be decades behind on things like desegregation, gay marriage, and who knows what else. There's a lot of really simplistically dumb ideas that people vote for and it screws us all.

The horribly broken 3 strikes law was enacted because California voters voted for it in 1994.

The market hates uncertainty. That's actually why Switzerland has always done fine. They are predictable and dependable. This will create years of massive uncertainty. That's bad.

If you are a large company looking to invest anywhere in the EU, it's going to be prudent to just stand back until the dust settles. That means less investment, which means recession, which starts a very negative cycle.

correct, most investments are built on stability, it creates a vicious cycle, no investment no jobs, more volatility etc..

less then 100 to declare.. Leave looks like it's got it. I wonder if the Scots will decide to hold another referendum to split from England, as they seemed to want to stay in the EU.

Eh, we just keep em laying around. You can have 10. Tell them I sent you. I am tight with Obama.

Guys I am actually pretty worried about some friends of mine in the UK. This shit seems dangerous as fuck.
