On the plus side, who's looking forward to all those lovely new hospitals that are going to open up with that extra £350million a week? Anyone? Hello?

Yep, I wrote that post and THEN looked and saw UK and Ireland are both opted out of the Schengen Agreement. So uh, nevermind what I said. >_>

Not entirely wrong - it's called the Common Travel Area (CTA). There was assurances from both sides that Brexit wouldn't affect it but let's see. Mind you, a hard border is fine by me.

Those fucking cunts! I want to smash the shit out of everyone who voted for this. The worst thing is that there is nothing that can be done. I have no control over my future.

The UK is done. Our economy is fucked. Those grey haired twats and racist fucktards have ruined everything.

I can't even talk to members of my family again after this.

There is no where I can go to escape... It is a nightmare I can't wake up from.

Hang in there mate.

The issue that I sea is that an independent Scotland would be really dependent upon North Sea oil and it wants be like Norway. However, the potential revenues from those fields are rapidly dropping and there is no way oil could support the economy. I really don't see any way that this would work out for them.

I feel like Scotland going independent is a worse decision than the UK leaving the EU. I don't think Scotland has the resources to support itself.

We do pretty well with renewable energy, have some other exports in water, whisky and so forth. Tourism is decent through Golf and sight seeing. Employment rates aren't bad. We have a party who isn't obsessed with funding big business boys, private landlords and making sure a palace looks good for a queen to sit in.

Basically if other small countries can do it Scotland can give it a go. Oil is just one of many things. The English are quick to remind us Oil is unreliable, but you can bet your boots they panic whenever the thought of losing it comes up. Countries still enjoy the power of having oil. Well tough shit London, you're about to lose it.

Part of surviving on your own is not having an asshole government.

Wow, just woke up to the latest results. Shit, that's not good.
Good luck fellow Brits, and good luck EU, we're going into "interesting" times I guess. :/

I work at one of the largest banks in a particular commonwealth nation and in the last half hour I'd say around 2/3 of the office has walked out from frustration. It's a massacre.

Those mind map things that highlight the motivations of each side really say a lot and I am interested to see some of the more medium to long term impacts of this vote.

God what a colossal clusterf&@$

That's why the EU countries will do everything to fuck GB and keep others in.

You can already see it with EU politicians on german state TV right now

Is that even possible? Isn't today's result (at least practically) binding?

Ah, the widened long term approach to planning - very admirable indeed! After all, one should always think a step ahead.

Immigrants are stealing our jobs. Therefore, we destroy our jobs and then the immigrants have to leave! What a brilliant display of subterfuge!
Oh damn, that's genius!

The leavers were right all along!

In the near term I think housing prices (in terms of pounds) would go up because it is cheaper for foreigners to buy now with the sinking pound.

They probably will go down, thanks to the upcoming and unavoidable recession that will come after this: loss of jobs, lower salaries, etc...

So yeah, he was right...in a very sad way.

Thanks.

this is a pretty selfish reason imo
Can't say I disagree.

I'm so fucking depressed. I spent weeks campaigning for this, I'm absolutely heartbroken.

I'm genuinely considering this myself.
I've been wanting to move for a while and began planning it a couple of weeks ago, I was honestly waiting for these results to decide where I wanted to go.

I'd have rather stayed in England and not gone too far but the English have made it clear once again that I don't belong here.

Can anyone see the EU surviving this?

EU will try to save face, but in front of the markets this sends an unmistakable red flag: EU is not a solid block, not anymore, and the EU as a project is a failure.

UK just made a big crack on the EU, is just a matter of time these cracks becomes big enough to crumble the whole thing.

Yup. I've been saying it. The power of fear and ignorance is stronger than you think. People thinking Hillary has it clinched should just look at Brexit for the worst case scenario.
Its not that simple. Trump could win a majority of the vote and still lose because of the electoral college. He is not going to win any blue states, traditional swing states are unlikely, and there is a chance a couple of red states could flip.

The worst part of it are the Brexit supporters in the UK government being in complete denial about the fall out playing out right now.

Trump will fluke a victory in November because the polls show Clinton leading by so much that people won't vote.

That's precisely what I'm worried about; the silent majority is very real and so many young idiots out there too busy fucking and getting their drank on to bother licking a fucking stamp to vote. Narrow margins favor republicans and the disenfranchised rust belt is pissed.

If the economy tanks Trump is enough of a bullshit master to spin it into being Hillary's fault.

The bolded is what I'm wondering about. Are there any examples of countries of Scotland's size and economic base that have successfully operated without a massive oil fund like Norway?
