Well, shit. This is looking bad. Condolences to all the Brit-GAFfers who face employment loss or relocation. GBP's shaved off about 10% relative to the USD now, and the US markets aren't even open yet. Gonna be a bumpy ride.

And why would I want them?
Damn this is absolutely insane. I just don't understand how shit like this passes. Fuck I'm starting to get worried about November. Hang in there UK GAF.

Will there be additional tariffs though? It's one thing for the public to vote to separate, but it's another for political leaders to start instituting policy that is detrimental to trade. You would think the businesses and people who lobby politicians would not allow their economic stakes to be greatly damaged due to a popular vote. At least, not without a fight.

The EU is fighting for its existence. They need to incentivize the remainers or everyone will want out. Especially france or netherlands may leave if the current mainstream doenst show how the EU is benefitial. The best way to achieve that is to tank the UK economy and show it as a warning
In addition to tanking the economy, this will also embolden racist parties even more across Europe.

Expect front national, Danish people's party, gert wilders, Swedish democrats, and the rest of the racists to double down on their hate rhetoric and push for getting out of the EU in order to avoid those pesky "human rights" obligations

I Dont think so. the people will now get to see first hand what happens if they dont get access to the common market and go back to WTO level

Those fucking cunts! I want to smash the shit out of everyone who voted for this. The worst thing is that there is nothing that can be done. I have no control over my future.

The UK is done. Our economy is fucked. Those grey haired twats and racist fucktards have ruined everything.

I can't even talk to members of my family again after this.

There is no where I can go to escape... It is a nightmare I can't wake up from.

The leave voters on GAF will conveniently ignore posts like this. Makes me fucking sick. I feel for you.

Can anyone see the EU surviving this?

After the imminent 'the UK nuked itself and fucked everyone' ? Oh, the non-right, non-socialist parties are going to ride that horse like there's no tomorrow, because that will be their primary weapon against fear of migrants (I mean, I would). Independence in poverty isn't independence at all.

Trump will fluke a victory in November because the polls show Clinton leading by so much that people won't vote.

I think people hate Trump enough that they will come out just to vote against him. It's not a vote for Hillary as much as a vote against Trump.

Feel bad for you guys in the UK and in the EU.

This will only embolden similar movements in other EU countries but I can only hope that effect is as limited as possible.

Can't see Scotland taking this well at all.

Theoretically yes but for a new member to join they need to be ratified by all existing members and there are several members with axes to grind (I seem to recall Spain significantly so) who would be seeking major concessions before authorising membership. In other words, Scotland could gain independence and seek to rejoin, as long as we're willing to lube up and take a good hard economic pounding as the price for joining.

Yeah, though in the case of Spain, I think it's more they do not want the Scots setting an example for Catalunya and Basque country.

I honestly was expecting remain to win, so this is a bit surprising. It will be interesting to see what the implications of this decision will be for the UK and for other nations in the EU who feel that it does not really benefit them.

So, is Boris Johnson really going to be your next PM? Dude seems like an idiotic, hate-filled oaf. Though that could be wrong since I barely know anything about him

We do pretty well with renewable energy, have some other exports in water, whisky and so forth. Tourism is decent through Golf and sight seeing. Employment rates aren't bad. We have a party who isn't obsessed with funding big business boys, private landlords and making sure a palace looks good for a queen to sit in.

Basically if other small countries can do it Scotland can give it a go. Oil is just one of many things. The English are quick to remind us Oil is unreliable, but you can bet your boots they panic whenever the thought of losing it comes up. Countries still enjoy the power of having oil. Well tough shit London, you're about to lose it.

Part of surviving on your own is not having an asshole government.

Yeah and now with leaving the EU will mean Scottish Economy will be damaged, frankly we have nothing to lose and since almost every other small country manages no reason we should not. I was very pro union, more so than most, but it's time now and I've had enough. We are too different and this vote has shown it's a difference too large to overcome.

It's not going to be good here either, at least in the short term.
I'm thinking more long term, short term we're fucked either way.

It's more of a moral thing at this point, I'm sick of living in a country where people don't care about each other and use made up bogeymen to explain their problems.

They keep talking about article 50 on the BBC. What's article 50 ?

Its the article introduced to negotiate a nation states removal from the EU, basically the "Official" removal process, takes about 2 years.

Jeeze CNN is reporting low turnout for remain was a serious factor: wake up America.

This is the hideous and grotesque problem at the root of it all.

People motivated by hatred, fear, and ignorance whipped into a fever pitch actually go and vote because they truly think the boogeymen are about to kill everyone in their sleep.

The people laughing at the manic crowds for being "dumb" don't go vote to stop the hoard from burning everything to the ground. In their urbane cynicism, the sophisticate seem to believe that there's no point in wasting time with dreary things like politics.

It is with no little irony that the supposedly lowbrow are always said to vote against their own best interests; while those who oppose them also act against their own best interest by refusing to vote.

Build lots of wooden ships to rule the waves again.

I think they've found an excellent way to deal with those pesky immigrants as well. Wow, who knew the fa right could be so efficient when it wants to be? Have considered throwing your hat in the ring to be the next prime minister?

isnt the next step to get a new prime minister and that new prime minister will give the boot to all the refugees and migrants?

Yeah, this sounds about par for the course.

There was never a plan.

It was always: "things will be difficult, but..." ... but... I guess we will find out.

Well, at least they were honest about it.

In Australia, we have an early election next week for federal government, I'm now freaking out how much of an impact this will have in influencing the final outcome of votes here.

Fuck everyone (every racist, because that's what they are) who voted Leave. Holy shit.

Is that even possible? Isn't today's result (at least practically) binding?

They can rejoin. It's just going to take a significant part of the racists dying for it to happen via vote. So anywhere between years and decades, and by then it'll be too late to undo the damage.

Its not that simple. Trump could win a majority of the vote and still lose because of the electoral college. He is not going to win any blue states, traditional swing states are unlikely, and there is a chance a couple of red states could flip.

Unless the US economy enters a recession because of this bullshit.

What.
The.
Heck.

Four hours ago when i came to this thread i left kinda tranquil that this was going to be a formality and now i wake up to this....

Congratulations UK not only you are going to have one hell of a big time but you are destabilizing the rest of EU too.

I wish i could post a funny gif or something like that but this is too goddamn serious.

I like how the people who voted in favor who have stopped by this thread just drive-by with a single gloating post and don't stick around/ignore every other post that's posting tweets outlining how fucked the economy is getting as we speak.

It really depends on the political will. I can see the path of them getting weaker, but I can see the path of them getting stronger. The EU need to respond it correctly and wisely.

Having a good share of the skilled workers going back from the UK to EU isn't that bad either.

Thanks Quiche,

Glad you saw it unfold - I remember doing the same when the Berlin Wall came down and South Africa came free. It's a "being there" thing that you'll remember forever!

I do think it is really really important now for people *not* to run around casting blame (and I imagine this aspect would have been a lot worse had the result gone the other way round).

Stiff upper lip guys.

And SMILE at everyone you meet today folks. Even for Leave voters this is something of a shock and worst thing we could possibly do is gnaw each other to bits.

I'll try to mull over the possible political consequences and vote later. Economic ones are going to be right in our face anyway.

You really are a treasure to Gaf you know, and your level-headedness is particularly welcome right now. As you say, even I am, in shock right now, despite predicting this outcome!

Interesting times ahead.

Holy shit.

I hope to god the EU manages to make an opportunity out of this crisis (which it has always managed to do during its history) and create a better Union, because this morning might possibly a turning point in modern history.

What a nightmare to wake up to.
