Best thing about work this week was taking some stuff into the basement and getting stuck down there for an hour. Some reason the basement has no "call" button for the lift which is only way to get in or out of it.

Cue me surfing around on office chairs listening to iPod until somebody noticed i was gone for far too long

Reminds me of an office I went to in Uxbridge once which needed coded swipecards to get everywhere, including the toilets. Some guy kindly let me into the toilet but didn't ,mention I would need a swipecard to get out again.

Was in there a while.

Re: Doctor Who, I'm obviously a big fan. Much of that is due to the Big Finish stuff, and having a brother who is a massive fan of the classic series (not so much the revival, although he did watch Night of the Doctor and I got a text of just "So when's the 50th on?").

The American fandom is slightly nauseating, but part of me simply enjoys seeing other people enjoy the same things as myself. I can't do binge watching, as the idea of watching more than 2 episodes of anything in a row, especially for multiple days straight, makes me cringe. There's other things I'd rather do with my time (mostly reading, programming and games). This excludes me from most of your Breaking Bads and other Netflix shows. I prefer stuff I can watch weekly. Pretty much all I've watched this year was Doctor Who Series 7B, Arrow when I remember it's on and season two of Young Justice.

Have my Communications presentation in the morning. Had to buy a new jumper since most of mine are multicoloured and the lecturer wants monochrome. Almost looking forward to it. I don't hate public speaking when I know a good bit about the topic. It'll be a shit crowd because the class was told if they don't go tomorrow, they fail. Have to go in for 8 to coach my friends because they're all bricking it.

At least I'll have the Hawkeye oversized hardcover to come home to, provided it actually shows up on time.

Good to see you posting Jordan, where you been these days mane?

Also, funny you should be posting PC stuff, one of my housemates just got a whizzbang new PC. NEW TOYS! Going to head up and nerd out with him in a minute.

It's one of those iMac style ones where it's all built in to the monitor. Basic specs as you'll probably be interested:

i5 processor (6 cores I think)
8gb of RAM
2gb of VRAM
Not sure on the graphics card

Crysis first up, the benchmark. Yiss.

Just lurking really. Not much going on in my life at the moment so posts will just be dull and boring.

No. In Norwich (alone out of the entire UK and bits of France, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain) nobody would talk to me.

Oh, sod it. PM me your phone number and we'll have a chat if you are that bored!

Ah I wish I'd seen this last night!
I did end up taking your advice despite the early morning, had a few ciders with a lovely couple celebrating their 40th anniversary and their friends at the pub. Cheers for the push :)

Just seen this post. That is a five minute drive from my house :)

Anyone still getting a launch PS4? I've had one pre-ordered since May or so but I think I'm going to cancel and just get one next year when inFamous releases.

I'm so happy today guys, I'm not even sure why! It's more than the usual Friday feeling. I've got butterflies like something really exciting is about to happen, it's weird.

Anyway what's everyone doing this weekend? I'm heading into bonny Sunderland for a few tonight, see some local bands at Independent, then probably just chill for the rest of the weekend. Maybe catch up with my mate John who I haven't seen since Arctic Monkeys (which he still owe me money for!) and probably pop over and see the olds at some point.

Also, my gym buddy for tonight just dropped out, leaving me with the moral quandary of wether to go anyway or let myself get dragged down with him. Hmmm...

I think I now have 2 points at which I will consider getting a PS4, 1) Uncharted Bundle or 2) MGSV Bundle

Argh. If I had not paid of my PS4 pre order from ShopTo I could have ordered one from Amazon US and got it on Tuesday and for £20/30 cheaper :(

should have talked shit about them on twitter, then they could have cancelled the order for you!

Now that most of my fb feed is filled with folk getting the console and games, I'm tempted to get one at launch but I know I won't have the time to play it :/

Also, gutted to hear UK getting shafted. PS4 more expensive and no 2 for 1 deal for games...ugh.

I'm really not arsed about next gen quite yet. I still have loads of good stuff in my backlog, and I just don't trust the launch run of consoles not to fall over after a few months.

I'll wait until there is a decent library, a more reliable machine and maybe a price cut.

And MGS is whack. MGS1 was god tier, the first hour or so of 2 was amazing, never played 3, 4 was an absolute train wreck of a game, horrendous stuff.

Splinter Cell baby! You actually get to play rather than watch.

Correct, it was a beautiful time.

Incorrect, they're all good. For me it'd go 3 > 4 > 2 > 1. And 3 and 4 are super close. 3 was probably the legit best story the game has has, loved the Boss. But 4 was a fantastic experience from start to end - finally the game was enjoyable from a mechanics standpoint, it looked amazing and the story was totally batshit (that lock and load sequence on the river was so funny). Really dug the meta stuff in 2. 1 was very hard to enjoy a lot of the times, very dated but it was enjoyable to go back and see how influential the game was and how ambitious Kojima was on the PS1 hardware.

And I like watching the cutscenes. It's the perfect stoner game - play 15 mins, skin up, have a smoke, finish that, play again for a little bit, get a codec, skin up...

I've just always preferred Splinter Cell. 100% control over the camera, much more fluid movement, more interactivity in the environments, the light and dark mechanic, Amon Tobin, etc.

MGS has a wicked score and that's about it for me. I find the movement robotic and restrictive, the constant interruptions for dull, loquacious dialogue infuriating, the story laughably convoluted ("but why did 'x' happen Hideo-San?" "Oh, uh, nanomachines?") and the gameplay too fragmented and inconsistent, especially 4.

Peace Walker = MGS1/TwinSnakes > 3 > 2 = 4 >Ac!d >>>>>>>>>>>>> Portable Ops.

MGS, the only games I will tolerate/respect no matter what Konami/Kojima spews out. For all I care, MGSV could be a 10 hour mini-game of Otakon dry humping a pillow; I'll label it GOTY! Still need to play MGS Gameboy.

If you haven't already I recommend playing the old Thief games. They're basically proto-splinter cell only with an amazing atmosphere and setting. Plus first person stealth games are insanely intense.

Also no matter how shit MGS4 was, it was still better than Conviction.

tbh I don't know if I could tell you why I enjoyed them so much, they are objectively pretty bad games. Mechanically fucked, frustrating as all hell, terrible checkpointing, some of the worst dialogue in any media...

but it's just so charming and earnest and tongue in cheek and knowing and retarded. Glad I jumped in at least.

Sweet, I'll give the new one a try. I always fancied the Thief games, seems right up my street.

Fair play Jed, at least you admit their shortcomings. My mate is a mad keen MGS fan, and he just won't acknowledge the faults! I remember complaining that I could only pan the camera left and right like 30 degrees when in cover on MGS4, he insisted that was intentional because Kojima didn't want you using it.

Some of the sound effects are hideous too, which is strange considering the general quality of the audio. The death screams of the soldiers never fails to make me smile, they sound like kids playing Cowboys and Indians, making poorly concieved "arghhs" as the clutch their chest and fall to the floor.
You guys tried SC: Blacklist? The previews did look good.
It's great shorty. I'm really enjoying it. It's much more of a stealth 'em up than Conviction too. No Ironside though!

Sweet. Story gripped me when I saw the previews back in 2012. Only other splinter cell game I was played was 1 and 2 so will pick up Blacklist if I see it at the shops.

hmm, not quite what I mean. I'd personally go for Thief 2, as even as old as it is I still think its the pinnacle of the genre. But go with whatever, new Thief is finally getting good news.

Any Splinter Cell fan will tell you Chaos Theory was best; you really need to play that if you enjoyed the others Shorty.

Also, about MGS...

The problem I have with it is a problem I have with so many Japanese games. The over-indulgent narratives. I tried with MGS4, I really did. But the content of the cutscenes did not justify the length. I think i got to the third cutscene where a young girl goes downstairs to make eggs, apparently reaching sexual climax with each step judging by the noises she makes and was just like "enough" and gave it back to my friend. And that's the other thing, why does almost every female character in Japanese video games apparantly orgasm at the slightest hint of physical exertion? Is it supposed to be cute or endearing? I just don't get it.

This genuinely bothers me too.
Especially since its the only thing I don't like about the newest Tomb Raidea game

Hot water wasn't working so I decided 'fuck university for today'

Kinda worried they might get mad and try to kick me out despite the fact that my grades are good. Will probably have to send an email off about that.

So racist with your ethnocentric views on the sounds women should make. Who are we to judge in our ivory towers??

Anyway, my problem for today is that there is a very pretty girl I used to go to school with on my FB feed who is constantly talking about New World Order/Chemtrails/WAKE UP shit and it's so annoying. But she posts the most amazing selfpics of her face which is quite lovely so I don't want to block her.

Hmm, what do?
