He enjoyed Deltron 3030. I have yet to recommend anything else as I felt I might've set the bar up far too high. Mostly steered away from traditional 'gangsta' rap though. Was going to slowly ease him into the golden era between the mid 80s and early 90s but never got round to it. Perhaps some Eric B & Rakim, Pete Rock, Beastie Boys, PE etc.

Suggestions off the top of my noggin': Jurassic Five, most Dan the Automator collaborations, cloudEAD, Pharoah Monech... I'm out after that.

Mostly steered away from traditional 'gangsta' rap though although I'd find it so hilarious if Mike ended up enjoying some Geto Boys.
Yeah, Shorty is a better bet for hip-hop recommendations. Runlikehell too. I dabble but those two live that shit!

Ha, these were going to be two of mine, love J5. And I was going to say Handsome Boy Modeling School (Dan the Automator and Price Paul). Cloudead are crazy too, always reminds me a bit of cypress hill, maybe it's the vocal.

Also, Del Tha Funkee Homosapian, Fatlip, Raekwon, The Roots, De La Soul, The Pharcyde, etc.

runlikehell's got a great ear for the current/new/today's obscure hiphop. I tend to be quite judgemental when it comes to today's hiphop but there is good stuff out there.

To folk on the neogaf mobile with youtube embed, Warning: incoming music/youtube spam...

Here's my recommendations:-

They Reminisce Over You - Pete Rock & CL Smooth
Fat Cats and Bigga Fish - The Coup
Classic - Rakim, Nas, Kanye and KRS-One
Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos - Public Enemy
Brenda's Got a Baby - Tupac Shakur
Definition - Mos Def & Talib Kweli
I Gotcha - Lupe Fiasco
Family Business - Kanye West

That's not Goldie Lookin' Chain :(

I always knew you had great taste... But now you're off the chart. You can bang my sister. :)

The Roots are pretty fucking special, as are De La Soul (how could I forget them?).

Off topic, but I remember there was an English language learning book for Japanese that included this phrase.

Mikeside, I didn't check out your latest submission in our collaborative and exploratory musical odyssey yet, but I did see more Daughter. Nice.

How much do you hate hippety-hop-hop? There is some really nice stuff I want to put you on to, but it's pointless if you can't stand that noise!

Loved Deltron 3030 as recommended by Shorty, love a good bit of J5, that's basically all I know. I like Gorillaz, if that counts for anything? (I guess it at least confirms my love for Dan the Automator)

Generally it's the subject matter that usually turns me off of hip-hop. That or the extreme level frontin', which is what puts me off of a lot of metal and emo too, actually. They're all full of people singing/rapping about "oh look at how much I'm at the pinnacle of behaviour expected within my sub-culture!"

Edit: almost forgot to mention one of my favourite albums of all time - Fugees - The Score. Amazing.
There's some hip-hop influence at least on another of my favourite albums - Bran Van 3000 - Glee. Well worth a listen.

GLC doing dubstep? It's like Musha's ideal record.
The Roots are pretty fucking special.
One of my favourite groups of all time, so damn talented. How many hip-hop groups have a live drummer and play their own instruments? Then Razhel, one of the best beatboxers you'll ever hear, and Black Thought and Malik B are both amazing MC's.

This record:

JcOZhV5.jpg

...opened my eyes to their genius. I've posted this like three or four times already, but it's one of their most approachable and crowd pleasing tracks if anyone wants to dip a toe in. It sounds like if Danny Elfman made hip-hop with the choral backing track and stuff, so lush:

The Roots - The Next Movement

Great video too. I'll just post the one, otherwise I won't be able to help myself and just spam that shit!

Edit: Mike, The Score is amazing. The title track man, holy fuck:

The Fugees - The Score

"You rockin' now but you ain't seen nuttin' yet,"

Britgafindiehiphoppers - don't forget Cannibal Ox!
Good shout sploatee. Fuck it, two more, nowt else going on in here!:

D.I.T.C - Thick
Just a nice bouncy hip-hop track, really poppy.

Ras Kass - The Nature of the Threat
A lot darker, it's basically a brief history of man. But the lyrics are incredible. Here's a choice snippet:

"Jews don't salute the fuckin' swastika,
But niggas pledge allegiance to the flag that accosted ya,"

Iain Watkins just got 35 years
He also said that what he had done "wasn't that bad", and that the whole thing was "superlolz". Yeah, laugh it up now dickhead, Big Bertha is just waiting for that mushy butt of yours so he can show you how it feels to be on the receiving end of rape.

Fuck you scumbag.

War Peaceman

You're a big guy.
Andy just phoned me to tell me this.

I'm quite surprised, normally we'd be moaning that the sentance wasn't long enough, but that seems pretty spot on.

I'd be very surprised if he survives it, to be blunt. Not that he deserves to die. He deserves to suffer thirty-five long years of solitude.

Hey, did you get your porn or did the obscenity squad kick your door in?

Nope, I got my porn, it was volume 1 of a hentai manga called Velvet Kiss.

It's not the only thing I've won on social media lately, there's something else that's hopefully turning up this week but I don't want to brag about it until I've actually got it.

Been giving this a listen today, not a bad album. She has a fantastic voice.

Was listening to this yesterday:

Not a bad album either, not as good vocally in my opinion.

Just completed The Walking Dead Season 2 - Episode 1, god damn Telltale can tell a fucking great story.

I haven't heard Pure Heroine yet, but Body Music is in heavy rotation. I love that record. And I agree, Aluna hasn't got a particularly strong voice, but damn is it sexy. Smoky as fuck. That first track, smooth as silk:

AlunaGeorge - Outlines
I could listen to this on repeat for hours.

I'm sorry mate.

bitch I'm taking calls.
File not found, Ninja.

Also I can't believe the new Zelda will be a Dynasty Warriors clone. I guess that tech demo at E3 was all just misdirection!

Pretty much agree with you, what I played was worthwhile but I'm not interested in the 4 (!) other games they are supposed to be putting out next year until they start using a completely new engine. The writing was good but it was janky as fuck, the save bug was unforgivable and stopped me bothering with the 5th episode.

It's not Zelda U. That's still coming.

Reading up on the Ian Watkins stuff.

He isn't getting long enough.

I just can't believe they spent the last 3 years on Zelda Dynasty when most fans want Zelda U a lot more. I guess we won't be getting a real installment for a few more years because of this, which is sure to get an angry backlash from a lot of GAF.

Tecmo is making it. EAD has nothing to do with it.

Zelda U isn't being postponed because of it.

Someone barked at me the other day when I said Telltale need to get a new engine sorted. They've been whoring that thing out since 2009 or 2010.

They're not Valve, they can't do that.

They should be working on a Fatal Frame for Wii U, not this blatant cash grab that just further tarnishes Zelda's reputation. Someone even said Ganondorf was just a reskin of Raoh from Hokuto Musou. SMH.

I can't wait to dive into season 2, but I'm holding off for now. I think it's because I hate how long the wait is between episodes. I'll probably casually start playing through them when episode 3 or 4 comes out so it's not such a wait.

War Peaceman

You're a big guy.
You mean "Thirty five long years of sodomy."

I could get behind that. Aha.

Honestly I don't want that to happen - I expect it may - I'd rather him to suffer alone. Doing nothing for a year would drive me crazy, let alone 35. Though he does already seem to be crazy judging by his megalolz comments.

That's because Source is scalable as fuck, Portal 2 looked lush, and isn't Titanfall built on Source?

Telltale's engine is a pile of balls and I really hope they think twice about continuing to use it into this next generation. And yeah, Titanfall is built on Source. Mental, isn't it?

Edit: Jesus Christ, they've been using it since 2005.

Seemed serviceable for TWD S1 and The Wolf Among Us so far.
I'm not really sure what the issue is?

Depends how many Telltale games you've played. The engine is an easy route for them in getting their games on every platform, but it's limiting their ability to deliver the following:

1. Better looking games
2. Games that don't feel like you're treading familiar ground with a different story or theme
3. Sam and Max Season 4

Mostly the second one though. I want to play a Telltale game that doesn't feel like a re-skinned version of something I've already played. 'Played' is the important word there. I love the kind of things Telltale do and the kind of games they make, but they shouldn't all be playing exactly the same as one another. It feels like they're limiting what they can do by sitting with a basic engine that's 8 years old and delivering such strikingly similar experiences. Fatigue out the ass, man.

I've only really played the 2 I mentioned and Tales of Monkey Island.

Enjoyed 'em all. I'll agree that TWAU feels a lot like TWD, but they're visually and thematically so different that I'm OK with that. I've got enough appetite for the style that I'd probably play through TWD2, TWAU, GoT and another one without getting bored of it.

Not that innovation is ever a bad thing, if they come out with something new after TWD, I won't be complaining.

Also, does it say something bad about me how much I love the film Love Actually?
Perfect Christmas romcom. Such feels.

Bit late to the hip hop recs

Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star and Mecca and the Soul Brother are a must.

I'll always toot People Under The Stairs' horn as well, but they're mostly fun/party hip hop. They have some seriously deep cuts though. Out on the porch...

Edit: Oh and here's one for Musha

Love Actually is my favourite Christmas movie.

Fuck the haters.
You know what's funny about it is that no one ever comments about Keira cheating on her husband by kissing his best-friend at the end. What's up with that? Do you get a freebie if it's Christmas or something?

So many cute/hot girls in that movie though.

Awesome tunes Acrid, that Madonna rap is genius. Also, plus 1 on Mos Def, love that drawl. The New Danger is a wicked album, so eclectic.

And you like People Under The Stairs? Mint! I love how laid back their sound is, just grooving for the shiggles. I agree with Mike that the bullshit posturing with gangsta rap about "hoes, clothes and bank rolls" just gets on my tits. As for PUTS, I'm always a sucker for this one from "Or Stay Tuned":

People Under The Stairs - Roadbeaters

Gotta go for Bad Santa, I think it's funny as hell. Here's the intro, 2:30 minutes, if you aren't sold after this we probably shouldn't be friends.

"It's funny how things work out, it's fucking hilarious."

Never did play Telltales' Walking Dead games. Are they worth it?

Played Season One over Christmas last year. You will experience feels beyond feels. So good.

I want another season of Sam and Max now, thanks a lot afoni! I've been playing both Poker Nights the last few days, the poker is insanely bad at times (so many nonsensical raises) but I enjoy the banter. Poker Night 2 would have a perfect cast if they had ANYONE except Claptrap along with Sam, Brock Samson and of course Ashley J. Williams. Jesus, how I hate Claptrap.
