The transgender kids one is interesting but not entirely comfortable viewing.

The two episodes about the criminally insane are also very good and make for more entertaining, if less informative, television.

Some of the things these schizophrenics say, god damn. Because of the differences between each individual case it can be at turns hilarious and really quite harrowing.

Attack on Titan is good but so much of it can be described as YELLING MY THOUGHT PROCESSES AND INNER CONFLICTS REALLY FUCKING LOUD!!!!

If you value story and characterization over "tits and ass":

Watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's the most philosophically engaging anime I've seen. So stop what you are doing right now and watch it now, there's like a hundred fucking episodes and it's a slow burner to start but it's really fucking good so watch it you fucking fuck cunt fuck.

I found the transgender one pretty dull watching. There weren't any "characters". Some of the stuff from the rehab place said was morbidly hilarious. I mean, awful, but hard not to laugh out (like the guy describing his altercation with the policeman and the metal rod...)

I tend to agree. Theroux is good at being the straight man, which doesn't work as well when dealing with 'issues', where the presenter needs to exert more authority.

I nearly bailed out of the first episode because of this. I didn't notice it happening too much beyond that, or at least it didn't jump out as absurd like the first one did anyway.

I mean Cowboy Bebop, one of the best things in any visual medium? Anything by Miyazaki/Ghibli or Satoshi Kon? Full Metal Alchemist? Samurai Champloo?

I'm fully aware I tend to post shows that would be the equivalent of recommending Hollyoaks as good television but there's no way one can say AoT is the best of Japanese animation with a straight face. I watched The Tale of Princess Kaguya the other day at the cinema and that blasts AoT out of the water. People still recommend Cowboy Bebop because it's such a good show. I doubt people will be saying the same of AoT in as many years.

If I were to recommend something that would have broad appeal but is very much something you'd only expect from Japanese animation, Big O would be a fairly safe bet. Same animation studio that helped with the Batman animated series so the style should appeal to those who liked that.

Titan is shit. The story goes nowhere and the characters are lame. I gave up when Eren got abducted by the other titans. The hairy Titan looked cool but it was just questions questions questions. No bloody answers

PUH-FA! These anime fans have no taste or true understanding in the medium of animation. If you want to truly open your mind, you must experience animation from the continent of Europe. Our Watership Downs, Plague Dogs, and La Planete Sauvages vastly outshine the mistake that is modern day anime (sips chianti).

I actually don't know all that much about anime in its current form...nor do I wish to.

I don't say this as a question of AoT's quality (though I thought it was really fucking good) but more that it was refreshing to watch an anime whose primary focus isn't upskirt shots.

I was told Gurren Lagann was great, and I was told Kill la Kill was great, and they're both unwatchable.

So yeah, it was nice to find a new series whose production was a bit more mature, and it'd be nice to find another one!

Well, yeah, it's an advert for kids toys made by a studio that specialises in making cheap things with as little effort as humanly possible. It never aimed to be original, at the very least it might have one surprisingly well directed episode or so.

Yeah, a show doesn't need to be original to be enjoyable I guess, but I knew it would be a Japanese animation and said to myself before looking, "let me guess, a group of unassuming high school misfits come together to battle the forces of evil".

It's like these shows are created via a template.

Yeah I watched that before I got into 30 Rock actually. It's good but it turns into a live action cartoon towards the end on the season. The characters become too unbelievable. Some good jokes still though.

They are. Though to be fair it's more like a reunion episode where you can't help but think they're a little too old for it now.

i agree with unbreakable hitting flanderisation really, really early on, especially in comparison to 30 rock. i think tina fey just enjoys very cartoonish characters, plus the absurd nature of the humor lends itself to over the top performances.
