Why does Trump think he gains something by souring relations with the EU? I mean, as far as he's concerned its just a single market with very few trade barriers (mostly just consumer protection stuff, no tariffs, as far as I know) for the US.

Because it was founded to beat the U.S at trade and destroy us. Sad.

I hope they do it. No country or world power should let itself get pushed around by a moron like Donald Trump. We deserve to be isolated. Maybe that'll teach some people that both parties aren't the fucking same.

Don't get me wrong, I hate acceraltionism, but some times you just got to let folks touch the stove.

This is the reason I want the Democrats to try and block Trump's SC nominee. Let McConnell get rid of the filibuster and give people a reminder of what a completely incompetent, Republican-controlled government looks like. When the economy is crashing and our foreign relations has gone to shit, force people to confront the consequences of voting for Republicans, for third party candidates, or for not voting at all.

I don't have much faith that the Dems will do it, though, if Warren, Sanders, Schumer, Pelosi, and all the rest are anything to go by.

I really hope the outcome of Trump/Brexit/Other right wing nonsense is that the EU comes out stronger than before.

Yes, we've clearly seen no one in Europe is paying attention.

It's not like we saw Farage wearing a Trump pin the other day or anything.

I feel so fucking corny saying this but... #wakeup

Farage is a twat who has no respect and no power in the EU parliament. He can show up in a Trump suit if he wants, he can't do shit.

They should indeed do so.

Let's hope they have the balls to do it, so that Trump knows he can't walk over everyone.

Because he's a nitwit who doesn't understand even the most rudimentary basics of international trade.

The entire notion that trade can and should be beneficial for both parties involved is totally alien to him. In his tiny little brain, international trade is like a game of football with a clear winner and a clear loser and the US has, of course, to always come out as the winner. You know, "America First" and all that bullshit.

The irony of all this is, of course, that if he goes on like this, virtually everybody is going to come out as losers in the end, with the US likely to be the big(li)est loser of all.

I'm aware.

The point is that people in Europe ARE listening and being affected by his propaganda.

They're banning Nigel Farage?

Also, has someone done a "we're number one" with Putins face, May's face and Trump's face?

I think it rests largely on the fact that he doesn't believe America actually needs any other market besides America itself. Anything that America loses in trade to other countries by alienating them, America can simply go back to making itself, just like the Good Old Days, plus it will create more jobs that way. A lone America is a powerful one that is taking its destiny back into its own hands.

I think the AfD is pretty much toast unless something changes, but France, the Netherlands and Austria are going to be a real headace for a while regardless of the situation. Also, Orbán can go suck a fuck.

In the Netherlands, Wilders isn't gaining much traction, but recently our PM Rutte has been stumbling from one blunder (lying to the House) into the next (gross mismanagement of the taxing agency), so the VVD could lose some valuable seats and end up behind the PVV. A lot will ride on the public debates but the chance of Wilders becoming PM seems negligible because nobody wants to work with him (because he is a untrustworthy demagogue).
