Bubsy 4D announced.

We talking about this? Developed by indie dev Fabraz, the guys behind 2D pixelart precision platformer Slime-san & 3d Platformer series Demon Turf. They actually got the chops for the job.
Published by Atari for PC, Xbox Playstation & Switch.

It just looks so crap. FFS this thing needed to drop when there were no recent good 3d platformers. Watching this shit less than a year after Astrobot and a month after Bananza does it no fucking favors.

This is being made by the Demon Turf devs, so at least the controls will feel pretty good.

I still haven't finished that game because I don't like the 2D sprites in a 3D world, and the overall tone of the levels.

I like the way they break the fourth wall, and lean into the franchise's perception of dubious quality. The game clearly isn't taking itself seriously, but it could still be good for a few laughs.

Even the publisher itself is engaging in a little self-deprecating humor.

"Atari? I didn't even know they were still around!"

... This doesn't look terrible? I have zero nostalgia for Bubsy, but this could end up being a fun little 3D platformer if the controls are tight.

Can't stand the "funny" quips though. Well, except for the Atari one at the end. That got me.

I don't understand. Bubsy 3D is the face of shitty, early 3D platformers. Why on Earth would you bring back this franchise?

One of my friends texted me complaining about getting this instead of more Rayman or Mega Man and... yeah, I'm with him.

I don't really know anything about this franchise. But the game/levels look pretty enjoyable to me.

The Bubsy series of games were never really that bad, a lot of reviewers just hated the graphics of Bubsy 3D since it was one of the few that used the high resolution mode of the original PlayStation which affected the amount of textures and the games level design.
Otherwise they are pretty decent platform games.

They should have just called it Bubsy Wubsy.... Where he has a sidekick who's called Wubsy and created actual new gameplay between them. But maybe I'm just insane.

The IP is better than nothing, we're having a conversation about it and it might actually become Fabraz's best selling game just because of Bugsy's "star power". Had it been Slime-san 3D few would care. Same thing happened with Beyond the Ice Palace 2 which released earlier this year. They slapped the name of a 35 year old game on it in the hopes it would sell better.

RLM did a video about it in the context of tv-series & movies. How investors get cold feet for new stuff and prefer recognizable IP.

It's the best they can do with a team of 2-8 people and a shoestring budget. If I had a say, I would approach the material super cereal and not even give the audience a 4th wall wink.

No! It's never been more alive!
Might not look like it, but there's actually some thought put into the game, there are characters from the 1993 Pilot episode in the trailer.

Scientist guy Virgil Reality, Bubsy's niece and nephew Terry & Terri, PAW-sible love interest Oblivia and there's a painting showing his friend Arnold the Armadillo.
Before we known it, there's a multi-season series on Netflix.
