Burnout Paradise 2 for next gen? [Criterion asks what you want in it]

Showtime was AWFUL and nothing like Crash. There was no setup or the ability to bounce off traffic, or explode or anything like Crash allowed you to do.

No, I agree. It was disappointing. But I'm not sure how crash mode can be implemented in an open world game. You can't have 'tracks'. It has to be open world.

Showtime is a good start. They need to build on it. Re-introduce crashbreakers for a start.

60 fps.

No autolog bullshit that bastardizes development of a better single player campaign.

Crash mode.

Open World.

I'd be there day 1.

Yeah, I agree with all the open-world haters. That's terrible for a racing game. What I want are more menus and load times, and less time playing around. Mmm, yeah, that sounds awesome.

Losing your race because you took a wrong turn af the final corner, then having to waste five minutes driving back to the traffic signal and do it all over again, and if you want to switch cars you have to drive ten minutes to find a junkyard is so immersive

But this season of The Office is one of the best!

Here's what i said the last time: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24676863&postcount=36

The perfect Burnout game will have:

1) Open world for exploartion and Road Rage.
2) Closed, meticulously designed circuits for all the other race modes. (Which in themselves can have alternate routes).
3) Crash Mode
4) Signature Takedowns (painfully missing from Paradise precisely because of the open world nature).
5) Quick Race mode like in Takedown where you can choose game mode, locations, # of laps and # of cars. (Painfully missing from after Takedown).
6) No traffic checking of cars from the incoming lane.

After they made sure they got this, Criterion can experiment with new\unique events that can apply in the open-world mode.

--
And any racing game that has a full world map hub MUST let the player create custom races by going across the map and drawing the line of the race; choose #laps and #cars. Infinite circuits.

They fixed that eventually and it was still open world.

Pretty sure he means the original version of The Office.

Yes, yes, and yes. And this time, please don't leave PC in the dust by not releasing all the DLC on said platform. The island is still a sting to the PC crowd. Loved it on PS3 and re-bought it on PC. Would gladly buy it day 1 on PC if I was getting more of the same with some improvements + bigger city.

Burnout 4 would be much better than Paradise 2.

Closed, linear tracks. Crazy-fast racing cars. Multitude of crash modes. Punk rock etc blasting out on the radio.

If you are asking me personally Criterion:

Drop Traffic Check.

ruined the game.

That I cant agree with at all. Traffic check was awesome and you still crashed if it was oncoming or a bigger vehicle. Smashing cars out of the way during a burnout while powersliding around a corner was the best thing ever.

Edit: As far as Crash for an open world game, just create a Crash arena. A large open area with roads and cars set up driving around. Or a crash island maybe.

I just recently tried the demos for Ridge Racer Unbounded and Forza Horizon, and all I could think of was how I really want a new Burnout Paradise where I can smash cars left and right. No other racing game has had the draw that Paradise had for me. I would be all over a next-gen version.

edit: Oh, forgot to mention that I didn't even touch the multiplayer component of it. All my fun was had while just driving around Paradise City and looking for smashable fences and signs.

The core fundamentals that made Burnout Paradise such an adored game.

And an identical commitment pertaining to post launch support.

Correct. Same reason why when riding a motorcycle, the rider disappears during a crash sequence.

But the problem is, If you look at Flatout (a game infamous for ragdoll, as it's a core of the game) it's rated T.
Well, that sucks. How did Flatout got away with the T rating?

So unless Criterion didn't put it in to avoid blood and whatever else...

Make a Burnout 3 HD and Burnout Paradise 2. Paradise modernized Burnout and I don't want to see it regressing on account of a few nostalgic die-hards.
A FEW?

I am just chiming in here to say that if Burnout Paradise 2 is in fact happening and it does release around next gen launch then I might be jumping onto the new consoles a litter earlier than initially thought.

What to keep: The destruction
What to gain: More emphasis on actual races, online and off.

Burnout 4 would be much better than Paradise 2.

Burnout 4 = Burnout Revenge

Showtime was AWFUL and nothing like Crash. There was no setup or the ability to bounce off traffic, or explode or anything like Crash allowed you to do.

Showtime isn't a good replacement for Crash but I still liked Showtime. It was like "Car Katamari".

I would take Crash over Showtime but having both modes would be nice.

The city should be at least 4 times as large as the one in Burnout Paradise. Or even larger.
We also need more cars.
WE NEED MORE OF EVERYTHING!!!
(Also, I want a Wii U version, please, even if it won't look as good as the PS4/Xbox 720 version)

I fucking LOVED Burnout Paradise. It was my first Burnout game and I loved every little thing about it.
It's still soooooooo much fun to play online against friends.

I disliked burnout paradise. I enjoyed the over the topness of burnout 3 and revenge, even traffic checking.

Give me:

Burnout 3 blue skies

Burnout Revenge Speed and crashes

Burnout 3 crash junctions

and MORE of EVERYTHING.

paradise was cool for what it was, but i wanted a burnout game, and not an open world tony hawks pro car-racer

Seeing the progression of Paradise->HP->MW, I'm actually not sure whether the whole "bigger" world metric holds weight at all. Hot Pursuit's actual map size is actually much much bigger than Paradise (and even Most Wanted), but there's less things to do because of the lack of complexity and layering in map. Most Wanted was the middle ground, but even on the long highway stretches, it felt liked a missed opportunity, and I caught myself wondering where were the shortcuts, where's the multiple routes.

I don't see why not, they simply build multiple parts of the open world designed for it, just like they design parts of the world for stunt runs etc. then just block bits off and load up more traffic, I really don't see why they can't do it.

Losing your race because you took a wrong turn af the final corner, then having to waste five minutes driving back to the traffic signal and do it all over again, and if you want to switch cars you have to drive ten minutes to find a junkyard is so immersive

Have we gone back to the first release or something, you have been able to restart races for years. And it didn't even take 10 minutes to drive across the whole map, let alone 30 seconds to a minute to get to the nearest one.

Some of the replies and hyperbole in this thread, lol.

Ragdoll physics!! When the motorcycle crashes, don't just blink back to the race... I want to see that fucker go ragdoll, skim across the asphalt, and hit an oncoming car. Good ragdoll physics(rockstar) really go a long way.

Well, that sucks. How did Flatout got away with the T rating?
Paradise got a E10 (one of the first to get the E10). Also:

Flatout: closed/semi-closed circuits, and not in "city traffic" with oncoming cars
Burnout: in a city, crashing head on into other cars.

It's a fine line, but you don't really want to test the ESRB's fine line definition just to risk it.

Pretty sure you send in a demonstration of your game to ESRB and they tell you what they would rate that and why so you know what to change if you want. It's not like you only have one shot at a rating and then you are stuck with it.

One thing for sure is ESRB change's their opinion on what classifies as what rating a lot, so maybe we'll see actual drivers next time.

Scumbag Criterion:

Asks what we want in a game

Most requested feature is shot down
How do you know it was the most requested feature? All the tweet said is there were enough requests to warrant a response, it could of still been a small percentage of the overall requests.

If its enough to warrant a response, its enough to consider adding instead of basically saying no immediately,

My only request is that they don't stick to one single theme song for the game. I ended up hating 'Paradise City' thanks to these jerks.

I loved the setting of paradise, and I'm not worried about graphics from criterion.

Main change I want is to not need to concentrate on the GPS widget and worrying if I miss my turning. Instead I want my eyeballs to dry to a crisp because I can't blink while attempting to navigate oncoming traffic at 150mph. I don't want to think, I want to connect my optic nerves directly to the dualshock.
