Burying people is weird these days, we should have mandatory cremation!

fuck that

all that smoke and burned shit

there is a shit ton of absolutely wonderful nutrients in a dead body

drive it out to forests or even farms and fertilize the earth

plants and soil life in the ground will love it

it will break down very nice, for free, and the earth will flourish

Mandates = statism = politics. You have no right to compel me to do anything.
Also, the free market usually takes care of these things. It is starting to get very expensive to bury people. Land given to cemeteries usually don’t get repurposed for a very long time if ever.

I'm just offended by nosy busy bodies. I've been inspired by this topic, I'm going to buy 100 pounds of beef later and bury it in my backyard. Yes I eat beef, yes I enjoy it, I will bury it and not enjoy it because freedom.

Whos complaining. It was a simple question.

Seems the loss of the politics forum has made you more demented than you usually are. Get your snowflake ass somewhere else if everything offends you.
Oh don’t be all passive aggressive. Anyone can see what you were trying to do with your “simple question”. Don’t be such a coward. If you want to shame people for not visiting their dead relatives, just say so.

Or maybe you'd like to visit a grave knowing there's some part of a person there? And it's a focal point for dispersed family to go to feel like they have some connection with a loved one? Grossly insensitive thread.

Some nice solutions.

My favorite would be to just mash someone up, and toss m into the ocean so the fish and crabs can eat. I am become chum.

Not only do you have to suffer the loss of a loved one. You gotta get a shitload of money together just to put them in the ground. It’s a huge business. Throw my body in the dumpster for all I care.

Cremation itself is a religious ritual. Not sure if you have heard of this place called India.

Why not just cannibalize the corpse if religion is the only thing forcing you to show respect to the dead?

I mean if atheism is so rational then clearly you should harvest the organs and meat from the deceased. Eat them and gain their strength. After all they are just another animal like you, right? Do animals bury their dead? Cremation is a waste of energy. How irrational.
Pretty sure thats how mad cow disease started.
There's always issues with cannibalizing mammals. Diseases and what not.

Also seems kinda irrational that someone questioning religious tradition would make you take the leap to CANNIBALIZE ALL HUMANITY.

I get the strawman you're trying to fight but chill dude, you can pray to your jebus.

This thread has so many interesting takes, but this one sounds kinda fuckin' wack.
Is there a reason we still bury people? Maybe some religious ones?

Seems easier if we just burn everyone? You can still bury the ashes if you reallllllly want.
On topic: Respect for the dead is among the tantamount natural habits for a functional society. Each person can deal with the burden of a 100-200lb problem in their own way.
Dancing pallbearers seems like the least cost effective method, but the one with the most swagger.

My vote is for this method. Worms, snails, ants, and mice will make my final resting place a death-suite of marrow and detritus!

I'm not. What I will do is try to make people comfortable about not getting buried. You know, like those seniors coming out of retirement to work off the payment for their burial plot so they don't have to burden their family. The industry as a whole is pretty scummy, salesmen trying to sell burial plots, burial insurance etc. Sometimes you pay to only 'lease' your grave, so you get kicked out or someone gets billed again to stay.
Also you seem like the anti socialist type. You would be pleased to know that cemetery maintenance is treated like park maintenance in some places, as in its paid for by taxpayers. You must love that.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Which is cheaper for my family? Cremation? Harvest my organs and burn me.

Oh yes. You’re here just giving friendly comfort to people about being cremated by asking living people if they even visit their dead grandparents’ graves. That sounds reasonable. Sure you were just trying to make people feel comfortable...

And if you want to bait someone into a political discussion, you’re going to have to at least attempt to be subtle. “Anti socialist” type? Could you be more obvious?

Its a tough question, and some people dont like the answer. If you live in the same town its easy. What if you live in a different country, now you feel like a jerk for not visiting at least once a year.

I've been saying for years. LifeGem me. Turn me into a diamond, put me in a shitty ring, and sell me in a shitty pawn shop in a shitty section of town. I guarantee, even as a diamond, i'll go places.

any ritual involving death really exists for those who survive. Not necessarily religious but cultural too. So I would say let people do as they will and get their closure cause that's what a funeral is really about.

For those who die without family or friends? Sure, cremation is fine. Doesn't really matter to them anymore.

That's a pretty big leap.

Talk about wasting all that energy in your body by burning it - I'd rather it become useful in the ground.
