Call of Duty: Black Ops III |OT| No Content For Old Gen

I should find my shotgun gameplay. It was so good. I outplayed everyone and got the final kill. Nothing makes people saltier than a one shot from the shotgun.

Finally put a little effort into the emblem editor

DESPAIR!!!!

Awesome emblem.

Also, just finished the campaign. Holy shit, that was bad. The writing was like if I wanted to make a COD parody but I sucked at writing and I wasn't funny.

I've played the last 9 campaigns and this was my least favorite (played on Hardened).

Just finished a hardened run of the campaign in co-op. For something supposedly built for replayability (though filled with unskippable cut-scenes, in-game cut-scenes and one long slow-walk sequence) I'll be happy to never play through that again.

There was exactly one good mission - Vengeance - that felt like a solid COD level in the Black Ops vein. The rest was a hodge-podge of mediocre fluff encounters as garnish between horribad story beats, with the occasional cool combat arena nestled within a swirling maelstrom of psychological flack. The kind of flack that you'll have to trudge through on replays.

Hendricks is also the worst character I've shared time with in a great many years. I'd like to believe the part was meant for Bradley Cooper but that he read the script, laughed his ass off and told them to fuck off.

5/10

On paper the co-op campaign is a wonderful idea, and I hope they don't ditch it just because it doesn't play well with the story they want to tell here. If IW or Sledgehammer wants to try upsizing Spec Ops to a full campaign, please do, and learn from what Treyarch failed to accomplish here.

Really comon! Are people not having issues online with the PS4 version?!

I can barely find any news on it, playing alone is ok for matchmaking..

But when you try to find a game with 3-4 friends it's horrible.
Actually spending like 70% of the time trying to find games, instead of actually playing the game.

And last night we got thrown into a game 9 vs 5.... omg really!? With 12 players max on domination. Going insane here...

I think my MP honeymoon phase is officially over. Last two games were 0-XX, as in double-digit deaths with no kills. The really sad part was being third out of six on the leaderboard with a dismal K/D. But generally I just had scorestreak after scorestreak thrown at my team. Even shooting down UAVs wasn't good anymore; often I'd die as I was shooting a missile or just afterwards.

What I would give for skill-based matchmaking. I know that I'm awful, just put me with a bunch of other awful scrubs and leave me in peace.

How much did they pay Meloni and Sackhoff? They had so many cringe inducing lines.

And Robert Picardo (Voyager hologram dude), though it only actually sounded like him in half of his lines.

What also gets me is all the barriers in the levels, to keep players from even contemplating exploring side passages or taking in NPC chatter. They must have someone on staff whose job is purely to stack junk up to block any other avenues. But even with that, there are still a ton of invisible walls you wish weren't there (especially when running for cover or trying to attack the high ground), and even then you still have plenty of "You are leaving the battle area and will die in 5.. 4.. 3.." zones too. All of the above. Madness.

No more Nuketown 24/7. Instead we have Chaos Moshpit (which still has nuketown as one of the maps):

I suck so hard with Pharo. Cant hit the back if a barn if I tried. Gonna try putting a Red Dot on it.

Also, played the first couple chapters on Realistic with some friends. Really fun stuff. No way in hell I'd ever put myself through that torture in solo though lol

Yeah the "You are leaving the battle area and will die in 5.." is intense.
Feels like my character was going to explode when the countdown reached 0.

They did this with BO2. Next they will use Nuketown for double XP weekends.

I remember not liking that at all back then because I enjoyed Nuketown so much and it wasn't Domination spam like now. I guess its luster wore off a good amount for me after that.

Edit: meant to say BO2 not 3...

Does the single player improve at all after that singapore levels (with the waves)? I took another stab at the SP and it's awful (I've finished all the CoD SPs except CoD3 and Ghosts). I'd actually call it unplayable.

It does, but its a very mixed bag. Some areas are better, some are even worse. For me, the best levels were ones that involved Hendricks speaking the least (Gods have mercy), with a bunch of human enemies making up the primary threat rather than boxy go-bots, and definitely better than infinite spawning boxy go-bots and rolly-polly hunter-seeker explodey balls, which you get to look forward to.

The water anchor thing is only in that one level, thankfully.

What is with this game's online omg. Just played a Dom where right as the match starts, everyone but me and some other rando on the enemy team is disconnected. I got to capture A and B and kill the dude about 4 times before he quit. We got no teammates to join in during those 3 minutes. Wtf.

Nailed it.

Treyarch basically seem to have taken gameplay ideas from a number of much better games, and found ways to execute on them poorly. Encounter design in this game just puts me to sleep.

And yeah, fuck Hendricks.

Yeah, I dont know what you guys find "beastly" about the Pharo. Feels like I'm shooting peanuts at very slow pace. Or it could be that I just suck. My little 1.15 K/D is going down the drain with this thing lol

Just completed the one with the waves where you had to anchor yourself. MP is still amazing though.

It's crazy how the SP and MP are getting such diverse reactions and are so different in quality. It just feels like they had all these new elements and ideas but had to then shoehorn in them into enemy encounters that are just the old COD shooting gallery that punishes moving around.

Nope, The Ripper sucks balls compared to other abilities.

Because of it, I'm often trying to melee people who are close to me even when it isn't active because of reflex. Took a bit getting used to at the start of this game since everyone other COD was knife the moment you got close to someone, now the habit has returned.

I disagree. I did this in the beta and after trying the Ripper in the full game against bots, the ability is even more refined and gives 150points per kill now depending on the mode.

Needs to be paired with a good weapon that you know how to use and knowing the maps layouts helps A LOT. Keeping your energy mid-use after dying makes this even better. I want to get my permanent unlock token on my ripper and start doing the same thing I did in the last two days of the beta, which was Ripper+Shotguns almost everywhere, but I also want Dead Silence and Ghost... Ugh Work time from 8AM to 6PM isn't helping as well.

Can't wait til I unlock the Sheiva it's the only semi auto AR in the game right? Loved the FAL and SMR in BLOPS2, can anyone tell me if the sheiva similar to one of them at all? :)

well the combat will be more repetitive as you go on, but some strange shit happens, if that interests you.

Black ops 1 esque weird shit? Atm this is more boring than Advanced Warfare's campaign. Hendrick is seriously almost as bad as Rico from Killzone and the combat encounters are so dull with enemies that take way to many bullets for a COD game. The extra abilities really aren't engaging me either. All I wanted was a fun story with some crazy twists/turns supported by some likeable characters and splashy set pieces to drive the narrative forward. So far there has been none of that.

What does this mean? You will have it unlocked from the start even if you prestige?

Dart is absolutely trash.

Agreed. One time I actually dive-bombed to kill someone but my teammate got him first. That's the only time I ever came close to a kill lol.

Has anyone else noticed how this game killing the XMB? I can't even read messages or check notifications without it slowing down the system to a halt.

Yep, it's insane. The only game I've played that does this too.

Anything can outgun the Pharo. Trash.

Lol I like the running diary this last page. Use my trusty HVK-30 + Varick Sight + Long Barrel + Rapid Fire. Best Razorback replacement until the Razorback is available!

I can write and read messages, but it takes hours to load everything. And making a screenshot (or more than one) isn`t very quick in this game.

Lol its Cod, man. We all need to vent sometimes. I wouldn't be using this if I wasnt going for Diamond. I miss my VMP :(

I'm just playing through the campaign and have literally no idea what is going on. Am I meant to know who these characters are, who the CDP are, 54 immortals, what?

I'm enjoying the campaign on Veteran strangely enough. The stranger it gets the better. My biggest complaints are 1) The campaign is too easy 2) It's too linear 3) Fighting robots/drones is hella boring.

CoD gameplay mechanics really need some re-thinking in order for them to be relevant anymore though. I complained about Halo 5 campaign, but playing Blops III made me appreciate Halo 5 campaign. Bad Halo campaign = really good FPS campaign.

The campaign should have revolved around some or all of the Specialists in MP. Just going off of their backgrounds, they are far more interesting than pretty much everyone in the actual campaign.

On another note, why are the SMGs not named Kuda/Razorback/Pharo has a high RoF and moderate to high recoil? I almost see no point in using them as the higher firerate doesn't balance out with the downsides they have.

As Bishop said, yes. Prestiging gives a token that keeps whatever you pick permanently unlocked, but at the cost of being lv1 again. You keep weapons attachments though and you gain another custom class slot.
same.
I have a feeling they will permantly bring it back
Not for a long time I think. In BO2, they took it away like this and put in the Chaos moshpit. Then used Nuketown for double XP weekends only.

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
I'm still shaking my head at the campaign.

Say what you will about the Order 1886, at least that game was boring enough to let me know not to waste any more time playing it 3 hours in. The BO3 campaign was this mix of mediocrity and awfulness that kept me in by a sliver of a hair, hoping it would get better or at least pay off somehow, before crashing down to earth with one of the worst end levels ever, making you realize your entire time invested in the campaign was literally for nothing.

I'm gonna write a long detailed post about this sometime so I can just vent and put it to bed forever.
