I think Kill confirmed is a great mode. Still feels like TDM but just camping around is not as effective because you have to collect the tags.

I guarantee people wouldn't think the maps feel so small if the spawns were like MW2 and Black Ops.

They feel small because enemies can virtually spawn anywhere, including right behind you. So, naturally, you're going to feel claustrophobic.

Keep in mind that I do agree many of the maps are smaller than your typical CoD map. But it's all the more emphasised by the game's spawn system.

You can spectate, no? Try spectating during a game and zooming out.

And adding clutter and shit everywhere is a double edged sword for cutting framerate because, well, that clutter has to be rendered now.

I think it's a good guess, but the reality from my point of view is that they thought a run n gun game was what COD was all about and made run n gun, where's waldo, I shoot first derpa derp maps. That and it's much easier to just throw walls and blockades in the way and call it a day than it is to make a map with balanced choke points and counter-anti-counter line of sight.

Why balance for snipers when you can just make them obsolete and throw them a bone with quick scoping and calling it a day.
Midrange combat is hard. Make everyone shoot each other from 10-20 feet away no matter where they are and call it a day.
Don't come up with a new idea or concern yourself with pesky verticality. Just run until you run into somebody and shoot.

Why balance this open space when you can just fill the space with walls so nothing really matters anymore. If there's only 1 way to flank then everything depends on the balance of that one flank. If there's 5, well then have fun. Not a single place on this map is important enough to warrant serious consideration. Everything intertwines with everything.

There is simply a lack of confidence/talent in these maps.
I completely agree. Most of the maps make you feel cramped, and give you very few line-of-sights, even a small map like Firing Range in BO feels bigger because its more open...

Agree with this too. After watching a handle full of kill cams where you get to see yourself spawn and killed, and see people spawn directly behind you, you start to get edgy and feel closed in...

Many AR's stop at 20 damage in COD games. 40-30 is reserved for the 3rnd burst guns, or the High recoil or slow firing guns. m4, F2000, Commando, AUG, COD4 G36c, BLOPS FAMAS, ACR, etc.
I don't have the game, so I cant speak on the map layouts and engagement distances/lag, but it sounds like that could be a big factor.
It's about DPS and typically it would only take a brief moment to kill someone from close range. That's always been the case for COD, always. The reason why people appear to die before they even notice the first hit is because of lag and the short-range combat that COD apparently has devolved into.

If you're gonna make a game where the difference between winning a battle and losing is .25 seconds, then you can't have .25 seconds of lag. You're squeezing the encounter time and thus squeezing the importance of lag and balance, etc.
If the game was more mid-combat oriented and thus took 1 - 1.5 (pulling these numbers out of my butt) seconds to kill someone, then the .25 seconds of lag would still suck and put you at a disadvantage, but at least you'll feel the first hit and be able to react accordingly. You wont just fall over and die in an encounter. You may, if the maps allowed, let you figure out a way out of the situation or a way to compensate with better positioning and aiming (that is presumably trickier to pull off as the target is smaller).

And from what I can recall, just about every gun in BLOPs and MW2 started with 30 or 40 damage and trailed off from there at different intervals/distances. It appears the same way here. I have yet to one hit kill anyone from the typical mw3 distance and yet to need more than 3 bullets either. It's all very MW2 style flat and because the maps are small, it feels even flatter as the bullet damage rarely recedes due to the lack of line of sight. 3 bullets all day long. 3 is the magic number with just about every gun i've yet to unlock and try.

I haven't frozen on PS3 yet. In fact I've had zero problems with the multiplayer, which is the polar opposite of Black Cops.

Wish some of the maps didn't suck balls.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Looking for some advice GAF.

I had a lot of fun with CoD4, and thought MW2 was okay (too much bullshit like One Man Army). Hated Black Ops after spending a good bit of time with it mainly due to netcode issues, maps, and weapons.

Considering MW3 though. I'm interested in finishing the storyline from MW and MW2 (lol), and the weapons have piqued my interest.

Worthy investment or should I stay away?

Same here. Black Ops for me was unplayable online because it locked up my console every 2 hours.

I disliked Black Ops but I love this game. Also loved Cod4 AND mw2.

PS3 owners: is there a 3rd party controller I can look into that doesn't have dead-zone issues and the like? I read about the PowerA controller some time ago and was put-off by said dead-zone issues, but I really don't like playing on the Sixaxis.

No. I hate the DS3, yet because ALL third party controllers have dead zone issues I stick with it. Simply bought "REAL Triggers" and "Grip Its".

Best and cheapest option until Sony decides to redesign the damn thing.

Can someone answer if you can use a 360 controller on the PC version. If not, FAIL.

Most of these maps are terrible for team deathmatch. They're fine for Free For All but the spawns and map designs are awful for real TDM.

COD4 maps and the way spawns worked meant you could expect the enemy from the opposite side of your team when they spawn but in this game, everyone comes from every angle.

It was like this in WaW when first released as well. I remember them patching that up quick....same with MW2, the spawns were awful there as well.

Blops has the TDM spawns down fine but other modes (HQ) are a mess.

If you're that invested in the storyline of the campaign then I suppose it's at least worth a rent. I wouldn't pick it up for the multiplayer though. As someone who considers MW1 to be one of the best multiplayer experiences ever concocted, I also consider this to be the worst of the CODs multiplayer-wise. Even worse than the Treyarch ones.

I played a few hours opening night and a few hours the next day and stopped to realize that I wasn't having any fun. The friends I played with said they came to the same realization. Something is just not right.

And yes, the map design is absolutely atrocious.

Campaing is SPECTACULAR so far. 2 hours in, it says 25% completed. Is it really around 8 hours? If so... damn. Having a blast with the set pieces and no infinite spawning. Plain fun.

MP is also awesome to a certain degree, has a COD4 feel to it but... damn the spawning everywhere gets to me. Also, I still haven't found a good weapon to settle with so getting killed a lot. Way too much

Right now my go to is:

UMP45 or PP90 (Kick, Silencer)
Stinger
Semtex, Flash

Sleight of Hand
Quickdraw
Stalker

UAV
Care Package
Predator

I personally like the simple 3-4-5 streak. I play pretty much run-and-gun so don't get a ton of long streaks.

Anyone want the two day XBL Gold pass that came with my copy? I figured I'd give it away to a fellow Call of Dudebro rather than in the other thread. First to PM me gets it.

Gone.

more like 4-5h
100% completion is iirc campaign on veteran + all the intel

Fucking this. There is no rhyme or reason to anything that happens in any of the maps. People spawn everywhere on the map at all times and are usually 5 seconds away from any point on the map. If you're trying to "flank" in this game you might as well dress in a chicken suit then decapitate yourself, because that's what you're going to look like. Much better to just post up in an area and wait for people to come down corridors. Lame.

Hahha I LOL'd so hard at this. It's true.

Spam is maps backwords. =O
Don't even know what that means but the maps blow.

AC130? Sit in a corners and shoot people while they pass? Once people realize you increase your killstreak by shooting things down, the helicopter won't last a sec. You can betcha that happens when I am in the game.

SMGs feel kinda useless because the damage output is so high an assault rifle just seems like the better option.

I'm trying to put together a decent mid-range class so maybe you guys can help out. Here's what I'm thinking so far:

M4A1 (or other comparable full-auto)
- Kick, Red dot

MP9
-Red dot (assuming that's possible)

Frag, Flash

Extreme Conditioning?
Quickdraw
Steady Aim Pro? (for faster recovery after sprint)

Assault package of some sort

Sigh, the amount of choices is sort of overwhelming. In BLOPS I pretty much just used the same perks and obviously killstreaks for all weapons. I guess I did have an extremely underwhelming (according to GAF) KD of 2.3 though.

You can go to town with a P90, but I've found that it sucks arse at range. Meant for a run and gun style of play.

I'm about 50% complete and 4 hours. But I like to take my time exploring a level. Also playing on veteran, which seems to be the easiest cod campaign relative to other cod games on veteran.... so far.

I am finding it better to just stay in one place for a couple minutes than to even move in this game. I feel so vulnerable when turning a corner because if someone is on the other side waiting or watching the corner, I have no chance to kill him before he kills me. Unless there is a Advanced UAV.

I don't think the maps encourage camping at all, its how fast everyone is dieing that most players decide its safe not to move. That is a problem.

I have a little over 2 hours played but this may be my least favourite CoD game. I loved CoD4 and Black Ops.
The problem is that the maps are a corridor fest. There were maps like these in MW2 and a lot of people hated them. I personally didn't because I ran marathon 100% of the time which made it so I could exploit the corridor heavy map design and rush in and out of cover all the time. Even with extreme conditioning the sprint duration is too low to play an uber fast paced style. I really wish they hadn't gotten rid of it. It's completely flow breaking for me in a CoD game to constantly run out of sprint.

Oh well, at least I can effortlessly get an 18 point streak every game with support package, get juggernaut and play the rest of the map with godmode on.

I'm all run and gun. Once you get your predator missile it will get you your Attack Helicopter. From there it's not hard to pull off an AC-130.

Xater said:
Why sacrifice the distance when spamming the assault rifle at short distance works pretty well? I also only need to hit with two or three bullets.

True. I've seen more people just running around in confined spaces hip firing with ARs than I have people ADSing with SMGs.

Assault rifles give out more damage so they seem like a more viable option.
I was confused with the wording. It reads like he's saying SMG's have high damage output and are therefore worthless compared to AR's.

But... why?

Even though KB&M are better for FPS titles, I prefer using a controller with triggers and force feedback. Just me.

And I knew COD4 did a shitty job of supporting controllers on PC so I was hoping they (Activision) had finally pulled their heads out their asses an provided more control options on the PC.

I'm obviously in the minority.

Sub_Level

Stinger is so far up the level ladder I've had to resort to the Javelin and I have to say it's pretty good. Even with a moving attack helicopter I haven't had any trouble with it missing the target and coming back down.

Blops supported the 360 pad just fine (and had dedicated servers... SMH at MW3). Apparently Treyarch cares more about your wishes than IW. You would get absolutely creamed against KBM players, though, even with copious amounts of autoaim.
