Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 |OT| Got 99 Problems, But Sales Ain't One.

Didn't everyone hate on MW2 maps AND Black Ops maps when they came out, too? I only played about an hour of MP so far, so I can't give an accurate opinion yet, but it seems like people ALWAYS hate the maps to start. Once people get them down, likability goes up.

Yup, pretty much. I absolutely hated the MW2 maps when it first came out. Raged so hard. And then I got used to it and all the problems went away.

I don't really think the maps stink right now, because I know I'll get used to it sooner or later, but there are a couple of maps that I just cannot play well in right now, like Village, for example.

I remember people really hating on MW2's maps, for the most part I didn't really like them. I don't really like them here too, some of them are ok, some are terrible. There aren't any yet that I really like. They're just really confusing with odd layouts, maybe that will change over time.

Dead silence in MW1 was a lvl 50+ unlock as well. Doesn't matter that much in this game, I've noticed that you can rarely hear anyone in this game just like in Blops, and crouching isn't silent as well. Partially agree with you on the weapons though. MW1's M16 was the best gun, but MW2's ACR unlocked pretty late as well. MW3's M16 is worthless, but I like the M4A1, SCAR, and L118A.
Dead Silence matters because of Search and Destroy. There are tons of modes in this game. When you lock out entire modes with the leveling system for over 60% of the entire prestige you've done something horribly wrong.

By the way after all the complaining, ever since getting the Type 95, I'm going positive again. That feels good, but that's a problem. It unlocks at 32.

Here's some handy tips in MW3 courtesy of reddit:

So have been looking a lot at this sub-reddit since launch and have learned quite a few things and was thinking we could try and compile it into one large thread.

Some tips/tricks I've seen so far:

Specialist package has got to be the best for leveling. Using hardline it takes 1,3,5,7 kill(s) to get the 200 points for getting the perk. Also an extra 50 points for each kill after 7 is amazing considering your extremely effective with all the perks.
Another thing I love about the specialist package is that you get more kills with your gun rather than spending time using a kill streak such as osprey or AC130. I am currently working toward gold G36C and I want that bad boy soon.

I believe this will be fixed but as of now i only use EMP grenade because killing a SAM or a Sentry seems to add a kill to my point streak? I can kill the equipment without putting myself in danger and I get a free kill toward my point streak. At least untill they fix this of course.
As effectsfire pointed out this is not a bug! Evidently this is intentional to encourage people to destroy point streak rewards. So take out those stingers and replace their point streaks with yours!

EDIT: I believe this applies to capturing/destroying objectives as well.

Kill confirmed seems to be the best game mode for leveling. Me and my buddy just share half of our kill points by letting the other take the tag. We are always getting a great amount of points. I only use specialist so I don't run into the problem of having to try and get a tag after I killed a guy halfway across the map with a predator. Denying kills is also great. One time I ran through and collected 6 tags at once. Quick 300 points not counting the kills themselves.
As anEnglishman pointed out, untill now SND, I believe, has been considered that quickest way to gain xp. The only problem is that it is highly dependent on your skill because dying early in the round may mean no points at all.

That's about all I can remember at this point. Any tips would be great and I will be editing this if I get any.

Tips from comments:

ReeColi: When people call out strafe runs, shoot the helicopter in the middle. It blows up the two adjacent helicopters as well, and adds 3 points towards your point streak.

rh1nos: Try putting only 1 point streak on (e.g. UAV) so you can keep cycling through the same point streak. This will help you complete that point streaks challenges a lot quicker.

twenty0ne: Use marksman, even if you don't snipe. Seriously. It's a huge advantage to more easily see where enemies are at when they're partially obscured by cover or blending in with the environment.

loganz: Ive been running support killstreaks (UAV and Ballistic Vests ONLY). If you play groundwar, you throw down your ballistic vests at spawn, and everyone picks it up lol.. its 50 points a pop.. 11 team mates, and it stays there for a while... ive been consistently getting 8000-10,000 points per game (without double xp). Also, save your double XP for later in the prestige, when you are close to hitting a bunch of challenges (10,000 XP etc).. There is no sense in using Double XP from the beginning, since points come slow, and you have no challenges to complete.

BigStein: If you're using the FMG9 machine pistol, you know how there is the initial flip animation? Well that only happens the first time you switch to it, so switch to it (and switch back to primary) immediately when you spawn so that the animation doesn't happen at a bad time.

EDIT: At this point I will just be placing tips up here. If you like the tip please find and upvote the guy who wrote it

I do fine at S&D without Dead Silence, just don't run around like a crazy person.

And this is the first IW-helmed MW game to seriously fuck-up the unlock system. Nice job fucking over the low-level players, IW. At least in COD4 and MW2, the best guns were available right from the start. And thanks for making me wait until level fucking 55 to unlock silent footsteps. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I'm seriously raging right now. Fuck this game.

Run first recon?

This is a silly question but what do you press to throw your knife? The one you have with a pistol. And do you have to aim it ahead of someone when they're running in order for them to run into it or does it 'lock' on a person as long as your cross hairs are on them upon release? (the latter sounds stupid but you never know with COD lol)

You can't throw a tactical knife. What you're looking for is the throwing knife, which is under "lethal" in create a class.

The superfluous amount of blood that flies out of an enemy's head whenever Price/Soap/Sandman performs an animated execution on an NPC is hilarious. Is it realistic? Maybe, but nothing that gratuitous ever happened in COD4 or MW2. Price shoots someone in the head, and a giant stream of blood flies out and splatters all over the wall. Shocking for shocking's sake.

Shanking an enemy in the neck is needlessly gruesome, as well. But I guess subtlety isn't MW3's strong suit. Haha.

Dat hyperbole. Not all of the maps suck. Sounds more like raging than actual criticism.

The only map I truly despise is the Village(?) I think. The reason I hate it is because its basically designed for camping.

Some maps are really good!

You're playing a murder simulator where you literally shoot or explode thousands of people. Oh god, a gruesome knife animation!

No mention of Dome ? That shit is as bad as the container one from CoD4 that i forgot the name.

I'm the same except with Lockdown. Haven't seen that map yet. Also I've only played Fallen a few times, which sucks since it's the best map.

Why does the PC version not have controller support? Just curious since it's weird that a PC game doesn't have the option--at least, according to Steam.

There are some idiotic fan-boys hating on MW3 on Metacritic. So sad to see such immaturity from gamers these days. Had to add my own review for both BF3 and MW3 and of course vote down a lot of the 0/10 votes I saw.

/sigh

This game is so fun.

Definitely gotten better since map knowledge is increasing. Went from a .7 k/d on day 1 to a .96 now. Also, playing when you know that you're lagging is never a good idea. I get really good games during the morning (re:lag) so I play more then...

It does not.

It also has bullshit completely broken mouse support that makes the game unplayable for some people by erratically changing the mouse's sensitivity at random.

Either go with a console version, wait for a patch, or save your money.

God, I hate Domination with a fucking PASSION. It's just a complete disaster zone of killstreaks raining death on you every 7 seconds. So painful.

I just pulled off the nice feat of having the fewest deaths in a game yet also watching kill cams the most. I guess no one else in the game cared about studying the strategy of the person who killed them.

After struggling through the first couple hours of multiplayer, I made a fateful decision. I decided to give Ground War a shot. I wish I had done that sooner. I'm having much more fun and now I'm finishing positive in almost every game. Granted, the last couple were 6-5 affairs (oddly, I was having trouble finding people even though the maps aren't that big), but any progress is good progress.

This was me about 4 hours ago. I feel better for having left that playlist behind.

IW should have done TDM/Kill Confirmed/Team Defender for Ground War instead of Domination.

Try backing out if the game tries searching for rooms with >50 ping.

I need to get better with the Type 95. Using Rapid Fire and Red Dot but still not getting the success of a lot of players I see using it.

The game definitely has connection issues. I have yet to be able to get into a game when I had 5 people with me, so you may as well give up on trying to get a group of 6 people into a game.

What's worse is it will quickly go from <50 ping games when it searches to >150, just so it MIGHT put you in a game with your buddies who are a few states away. It's pretty much a guarantee you will be getting super laggy/shitty games if you see when it is searching it has gone past 75 ping.

This was the thing I have been harping on the CoD franchise since MW2 was announced----the lack of dedicated servers for consoles. It didn't come with MW2, it didn't come with Black Ops, and it's not here in MW3. They had a fantastic opportunity to provide ELITE members with dedicated servers on consoles. I honestly would have no problem paying 50 bucks a year for the guarantee of smooth online games in CoD.

Game is a blast when it isn't a laggy game though. :)

I've only played Village once my entire time so far and boy did I suck at it. Its really big and it can be very campy.

Still liking the game so far though I'm not a fan of the Type-95 being such an early unlock. Its way to powerful and accurate. lol

Well the host selection seems to be hit-or-miss, was really having trouble finding games without bad lag the first day but now it's about 50/50.

One thing I forgot about playing COD was how much it sucks to play objective modes with randoms. Last console COD i played was COD4 on 360, and usually with a party of 4-5 people, and we were pretty good so we would win about 80% of the time.

Now I'm on the other end. When you join a lobby by yourself, you very frequently get stuck on the "randoms" team while the other team is mostly comprised of a party of players that work together to some degree. Except in some rare cases, I nearly lose it when my team does absolutely nothing related to the objective.

So many games of Sabotage where my whole team is somewhere in the middle of the map, not making any progress toward grabbing the bomb or defending our base. So many games of Capture the Flag where no one will follow you when you make a move to grab/cap. So many games of Headquarters where the enemy has taken the HQ, but it takes 3-4 times as long as it should to destroy it because my team is looking for enemies instead of rushing the objective, etc.

Those are the attachments I use too, but honestly I choose whether to use the Type 95 or not based on how laggy the hit detection is during a given game. Makes way more difference with burst than with full auto spraycannons like the P90 (silencer and rapid fire, never fails me!).

EDIT: Oh yeah, another great run & gun loadout is akimbo Skorpions with Steady Aim. Things are crazy accurate and shit bullets.

They should just get rid of the TDM and Sabotage playlists since Kill Confirmed and Team Defender fill their niches way better.

Village is probably my favorite for the very reason you mention...the rest of the maps feel liek quake arena layouts or soemthing, Im usually getting shot as soon as I spawn in.

That's the only weapon that's annoying me at the moment. Opponents are taking me down in 2-3 bullets with it. It seems significantly more powerful than any gun I have available to me.
