Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 |OT| Got 99 Problems, But Sales Ain't One.

Having to use a perk you wouldnt otherwise want to use just to 'counter' isnt good perk balance, that just shows that one perk is overpowered and needs to be compensated against.

To be honest, what do most people like in Perk 1? Blind Eye? SoH? Because I think recon is by far the best perk 1. Not only does it let me pinpoint where exactly my stunned enemies have hidden (so I can treat them to a nice pack of C4), but anyone whom I've shot shows up on all my team mate's radar. I'm surprised that most people don't use it more often, it's saved my life countless times, and imagine the results you could get with hardline pro!

Unlike blind eye, it's always useful, and it lets you learn incorporating stuns or flashbangs into your gameplay, and helps your team considerably.

I'm probably in minority but I missed the mw2 days with more less predictable gameplay. In mw2, had 40-5 game and then 8-20. Since I got used to mw3, I far less have blow out gameplay. It's all around my average game, which I found boring.

I'm an above average player who can be quite effective if there is a great player in my team because I'm not good enough to drive the match all alone. With mw2, I had experienced more of those dominating matches than blops or mw3.

Everyone seems to say more accurate gun centric gameplay, but to me, that doesn't provide me with the same kind of adrenalin rush because It's more realistic than surreal. Interestingly, there are overall down averaging of k/d in mw3 compared to mw2; mine included.

I think they should consider this aspect of the game as the franchise is maturing.

lol went up like 5 weapon levels in one 43-20 Domination game. Leveling up attachments to their respective 1000 XP challenges really helps.

I agree, Mw2 had more of a fun factor. Just some balance issues.
This may be a case of me not having had the chance to get into Mw3 as much as I'd like to yet. But nonetheless I agree.

Iron Wolf LMGs
-No sway, even with ACOG
-Almost no recoil
-No damage drop off
-Same ADS time as ARs
-A ton of starting ammo

The point of LMGs is to bunker down and defend a point with suppressing fire. No sway helps the defending player stay in ADS over that point. Little recoil and increased range makes suppressing fire accurate. And Scavenger shouldn't be needed to defend an area for more than a few kills.

Pros:
-Swayless, accurate, powerful at range, tons of ammo

Cons:
-Low movement speed, unreliable at short range

Why not just have them like they were in CoD4:

cons:
- slow ADS
- slow movement
- big hipfire
- more recoil than ARs
- slow-very slow reload

pros:
- no damage dropoff (unless using a suppressor in which case it should have something between SMG and AR drop-off)
- faster time to kill (even in closer ranges where they did the same damage the LMGs fired faster)
- no sway
- large ammo (100 + 150 spare for very slow reload, which was every LMG in COD4, and 80 + 120 spare for reloads that are somewhat slower than AR reloads)

The RPD was ridiculously good at long range in CoD4 and the M249 w/grip was really good in medium to long range. M60 was a little iffy due to recoil and sights but the ability to do two bullet kills without using SP was useful in a game like CoD4.

And those four things were the only advantages LMGs had in those games, but it allowed it to be good for:
- Multiple enemies
- Long Range
- Anti-Air
- guarding a specific path

I didn't say combine the 2 perks again, I said put them both in the same tier so you have to choose from one or the other; either be immune to air support or immune to uav's.
Assassin is only very slightly OP (thanks to recon pro and recon drones), especially when you have a perk like Hardline Pro and Quickdraw pro for anyone that isn't using only an SMG or Shotgun. The problem is that Blast Sheild is pretty much useless because explosives already got a nerf, the perk doesn't put a cap on explosive damage (like Flak Jacket in Blops) and doesn't protect against any killstreaks while Overkill is useless in a game where secondaries are not significantly worse primaries.

I became a fan of MW in MW2 and i think just now i´m getting the hang of it on MW3.

I don´t see that many problems with the game, i just think some of the maps suck and i wish we had most of the MW2 maps to beef up the choices.

I have over 3 days of play time and my K/D is still only 0.78.

I learned that for a bad player youtube videos and stuff are useless. They always seem to be playing with a bunch of retards, they get so many easy kills is not even fun.

I think the biggest difference is that i´m brazilian and i play 99% of the time with brazilians. Since the pool of players is way smaller (think 100k against 10 million playing in the USA) there are a lot less noobs giving you easy kills. Mostly hardcore players buy the game here (i think).

So, since those videos never worked for me, i build up a class that finally makes me confortable. I would like to hear what GAF thinks about it.

Type 95 with rapid fire and red dot, kick
Stinger

Flashbangs
Claymore

Blind eye pro
Hardline pro
Marksman pro

UAV
Care package
Predator

Final stand.

I think many would say it´s a super cheesy class, but the only way i managed to improve from 0.60 to 0.78 was with constant UAVs.

I gave up on longer kill streaks because i never get there. (record is 14 in a row). With this setup it´s 2, 3 and 4 and i got them all.

I hate being killed by helicopters, so blind eye + stinger are a must for me. Yesterday i took down 4 of the 5 helis from the strafe run, got a predator out of it and felt like a champ.

Marksman to me is great because you even see through walls. I always ADS, so steady aim would be useless, and unlike my friends, i don´t really see a benefit on stalker.

I run less, camp more and i finally understand that the commando knife i use to love doesn´t exist anymore.

So, am i on a good path to reach 1.0 K/D? (right now 7100 kills, 9100 deaths, playing only TDM, level 80, will never prestige because i can´t see any benefit on it).

I became a fan of MW in MW2 and i think just now i´m getting the hang of it on MW3.

I thought I was getting the hang of it too. In the past month or so, Ive risen my K/D from .94 to 1.14, rarely not getting my attack helicopter at least once. Obviously enough to rise my K/D up .2 after two full days a play under my belt.

Then, this past week, Im doing worse, not playing worse, than I ever have. I dont feel my aim is gone, my reactions range from quick to lightning quick, but it isnt me" it feels.

Ive seen more people playing on the ground than I have at any point of CoD. Its like a FPS mixed in with Farmville where my targets are embedded into the earth. Ive seen QS'ing explode this week, the use of dual FMG-9's explode this week. The lag, which I personally felt has improved as of late as Ive played a lot over the past few weeks, is the worst for me its personally been. Killcams not even showing a variance of the story I was told, but a different tale completely. Enemies apparently playing a solid second or two into the future.

And for the LOVE OF GOD Infinite Ward.... Im not graced with a group that plays this game a lot, so Im forced to play with randoms. And while Im not asking to be placed on the squad with great players every time, can I at LEAST be placed on a team that shows some desire, any whatsoever, of fighting SLIGHTLY against getting steamrolled??? My win/loss ratio in this is .46 or something. Im just always put on teams that are the worst group of players I have ever played with in ANY team based game since online has been a "thing".

</end bitchy rant>

Have any of you guys heard yet of Call of the Community 2? It's a charity fundraiser where the best Youtube COD players livestream next Sunday competing against each other in teams. Spectators pitch in using Chip In like in the recent Speed Demos Archive marathon. I believe their goal this year is $25,000, which seems very low and attainable to me.

Some notable players include ThatGuyWhoCamps, TmartN, and Sandy motherfuckin' Ravage.

It'd be cool if some of you spread the word or maybe even created a thread a couple days before the stream.

I don´t know if i should use lag excuses or not.

I always play on 100-150ms on my current shitty connection.

I don´t even know what a game under <50 ms looks like, but people say to me it feels great and it´s totally different.

Will know more in april when i move and get a new, fiber optic internet on the new apartment.

Seattle, if you're struggling I would first of all recommend Quickdraw as your second perk, just so you stand a bit more of a chance in a one on one engagement and have a little more time to correct your aim, those fractions are vital. Then I would suggest not using a 3-burst weapon, as great as the Type-95 is, until you're comfortable with your aim and ability to snap onto a target without corrections. If that's not working out for you then Assassin as a second is always going to catch people off guard, particularly if you like running around as you say.

Then just the obvious really, don't run around corners, in TDM where your triangles aren't on the mini map then that's generally where the enemy is but you probably know this stuff already..look out for teammate skulls...

I think my main disappointment with this game are the maps. They're very boring both in terms of layout and aethetics, everything seems so downscaled compared to MW2. It's a shame we finally have a MW game with solid perk and weapon balance but such shitty arenas to play in...oh and the complete lack of spawn 'logic'.

Xjaws, Fearcrads, and ThemarkofJ are the best players there from what I can see, though I'm not familiar with some of the players there. Disappointed to not see Dahgame360 and Seananners up there though.

I gonna go ahead and give this a watch when it happens.

NerdyFTW is Realmoflife, consistently at the top of the black ops SPM leaderboards so he's pretty good and Ronaldinho is a good pubstar too. I don't think Sandy Ravage plays much these days. From the pros Proofy and Scump have the best shots but they're not really used to a Pub style format, if that is indeed what they're going to use.

Good solid roster there.

I live somewhere in Asia, our local player base is pretty damn small, and the ones who are still playing can be pretty damn good. There's a clan of locals with dudes that play TDM exclusively with K/D ratios of 3 and above. I was having problems like you, and I was using the T95, until I switched to Mk14. I've managed to go from 1.2 to almost 1.7 now.

Mk14 red dot, kick - the best AR imo
SMAW - one shot + an entire Mk14 magazine takes out an attackl heli

C4 - instant, close ranged explosive
Concussions - use liberally

Recon Pro - helps pinpoint folks that have been stunned or shot
Assassin Pro
Sitrep Pro - I can pinpoint any enemies that are nearby

Predator, Reaper, AC130

I swap to a class with blind eye and stinger when I need to shoot down the bigger kill streaks

I just lost a domination game 99-100 after bringing 5 predators, 2 reapers, and 2 AC130 into the battlefield.

Goddamn teammates sometimes. :/

We could have won if they didn't capture the last enemy flag. But they did then the respawn points went crazy with the enemy capturing 2 of our flags easily @ 95-94 mark.

You sure? My 80 win streak included a stretch of 20 FFA games where I mostly placed 1st and 2nd. Ended it in TDM so it definitely didn't terminate due to getting 2nd in FFA..

yes. Other than first position everything counts as loss . Wii version here may be that is the difference.

Played Black Ops on PS3 tonight and my lord is that game a mess. The frame rate seems like it's not even hitting 30, the resolution is sub-sub-sub HD, there are a ton of jaggies and the lighting is flat. MW3 on my xbox looks a full gen better than this thing. Also experienced what some of you guys call "lag compensation" where I'm shooting a guy and get multiple hit markers only to all of a sudden stop doing damage and drop dead. I wish they'd import the way Blops handled stats into MW3, but other than that MW3 is a superior game in every way.

Yeah, Black Ops on PS3 is terrible. As with W@W, wish I'd never bought it. It's like they don't understand how to develop for it. Laggy too. I never could get into it.

Has noone in here expirienced the kind of LAG, where the enemies stop moving (running in place), and you can move around and shoot but no do any damage or anything at all. And then suddenly the enemies move again and you are dead and in another place..? It´s like some kind of dream sequence where only you move and the enemies are all running in the same place.. it´s freaking anoying..

I´m Playing on PS3. And normally when I only join <50ms or <75ms games everything is fine.. but when I´m in a party and we join a game I lag like that dream sequence shit constantly.

it´s like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKVVWwgWyCM#t=2m04s

when the player goes into final stand, the lag kicks in.. you can see his teammate running in place, and the player is stil moving normally..

I've experienced that, but once they start running in place it just kicks me out of the game after a few seconds. It doesn't ever un-glitch.

figured I'd share some nice LMG classses I have come up with:

Crouch Walker: Lets you move faster while crouching and ADS so that you can use the lower recoil of crouching while still moving at a decent speed.
LSW w/ Speed, HBS, Grip, And/Or Rapid Fire
MP9 w/supressor
Semtex
Flashbang/Scrambler
Sleight of Hand Pro
Quickdraw Pro
Stalker Pro
Assault Package: Predator, Helicopter, Reaper

Overwatch V2: Better version of the default LMG class
MK46 w/Grip + Red Dot/Holo(Use U dot)/ACOG(use U dot)
Stinger/Javelin
Claymore/Bouncing Betty
Flashbang/Trophy System
Blind Eye Pro
Assassin Pro
Marksman

Quickscope LMG: Combines the High DPS of Rapid Fire with the High Accuracy of thermal scope for a gun that, when aimed down the scope, can beat nearly every gun and is pretty much unbeatable when prone.
LSW w/Thermal + Rapid Fire
MP9 w/Suppressor
Semtex
Flashbang
Sleight of Hand Pro
Quickdraw Pro
Marksman Pro
Specialist Package: Steady Aim Pro, Blind Eye Pro, Scavenger Pro

I've actually used the third class there a lot (although I didn't have steady aim pro), and steady aim + rapid makes the LSW able to quickly kill enemies in situations where you can't wait for the sights to come up while Blind Eye Pro's 1.6 damage against killstreaks means you can destroy helicopters, AH6s, and turrets nearly instantly to quickly get to the specialist bonus.

Sounds like a bug on the Wii version. My longest win streak definitely had a section of FFA games in the middle that I didn't place first in.

I believe it works as follows:
Winning counts as a win, anything not in first place counts as a loss, BUT if you take 2nd or 3rd it doesn't end your win streak (despite counting as a loss).

Anyone think they could easily balance LMGs by letting them equip 2 attachments by default (and having the Attachment proficiency allowing a third attachment)?

I could name at least 20 things that BO did better than MW3. But the most obvious would be maps, spawn system and balance.

He mentioned PS3 specifically, which may be a part of it. PS3 Black Ops was terrible, at least for the first few months.

I think the most obvious thing was what he mentioned, in-game stats.
Balance can be argued. The main reason BO was 'balanced' was because there was no variety whatsoever. None. At least there is variety in the MW games. And still, in BO, a few guns outclassed all the rest.

IMO, the combat record in black ops makes elite almost useless. I only bought elite for the dlc discount. They've gone pretty far out of their way to make sure that people need an external application for viewing detailed stats. I wouldn't be shocked if blops 2 didn't bring the combat record back, but that would suck.

Not really, it's just that most people don't know much about the LMGs in this game, so they fire it full auto while standing and then assume that the gun is unusable.

I showed a friend of mine the benefit of going prone with the LSW, and in one game of 6 v 6 Kill confirmed he was able to get 48 kills with a vanilla LSW.

Also you have to understand that when you are using a grip or kick, nearly all of the recoil (when standing or crouching) is visual. I used the MK46 w/Grip & ACOG and I was easily able to stay on target because I knew that the big jump the scope does is mostly the kind of mostly visual recoil that the AK47 has. LMGs really are meant to played a different way than you would with ARs but it does it's job better than ARs. An AR user can't easily take out a swarm of people running down a hallway. A prone or crouching LMG user can.

If you want I could show you online what I am talking about.

You're talking about the game where everyone is using an Assault Rifle, the 74u, or the L96.

Just finished the campaign today and, yeah...not very compelling. Like I told my friends, it was some dudes fighting over some shit I don't really know what it's about, some russians doing some incredibly implausible shit and some cool set-pieces (but overall I was less impressed with them than I was with MW2). I liked the various throwbacks to CoD4, like seeing the nuke and the Pripyat snipe from the other side, but that also left me a little disappointed that I couldn't really find any nods to MW2. Didn't like how much the game held your hand either. Previous CoDs have always been very linear, but they'd do things like tell you to get to a place 200 feet off and leave it up to you to get there. In MW3, you have to hold Soap's or Price's hand literally the entire game.

One of the things I noticed the most is that many guns had very different sounds... I want the suppressed AK47 sound in multiplayer! And I want the 74u in MP too. It was about the only weapon I noticed to be exclusive to the campaign... Past CoDs have had more campaign-only weapons, I think. Black Ops had that badass shotgun that so badly needed to be in MP...

I could name at least 20 things that BO did better than MW3. But the most obvious would be maps, spawn system and balance.
There is this idea online that "balance" means "take out everything that pisses me off." In that definition, Black Ops was the most balanced CoD ever. In the actual, real sense of the word, BO was the worst CoD ever. Ghost, FAMAS and 74u all day every day.

BO had better maps, spawning, and fewer bugs and glitches, but aside from that it was boring, and that's the worst thing a CoD game can be imo

but on the other hand it had diving, which I love.

I don't even understand why Call of Duty bothers with LMGs and snipers anymore. If you couldn't do that quickscope nonsense with snipers, no one would use them in MW3 except on Village.

Because when you limit the variance of weapons you make the game less fun. If people wanted less weapon variety, they would be playing Halo.\

That's what made Black Ops so boring, there was only good weapon variety for Assault Rifles. SMGs were all shitty except for the ones that did 40 damage in close range, the shotguns only had one available attachment, the Snipers were only good with variable scope, and the only good LMG was the M60. And that's without going into detail about all the useless, boring shit they had for pistols.

Look back at CoD4 and you'll realize that what made the game fun was the weapon variety. The perks weren't that balanced in CoD4, but no one cared because they loved the numerous options they had with the guns. The the pistols had more variety in CoD4 than Black Ops.

I agree. I also think that mw3 stats are pathetic. If you look at previous match summary, there is nothing compared to mw2. If they really wanted to promote the elite, add new and useful things in the elite not simply take stuffs from existing stats, which is extremely lazy thing to do especially considering they want us to pay for it separately. No way, I'll renew my subscription. I'll miss the stats but not going to pay for it.

I like how people claim that everyone used the Famas in Black ops, yet it's not even the gun I've been killed with the most. Neither is the 74u, the Galil or the L96. And Ghost was never a problem for me thanks to the Blackbird and the openness of the maps. Yet in MW3, Assassin Pro is immune to everything (even EMP and Marskmen lol) except Recon.

But besides gun balance, there's also killstreak balance, map balance and perk balance. Things I think that MW3 really lacks at the moment.
