Call of Duty Vita confirmed for Fall release.

Except the Vita screen isn't tiny. And you cannot compare previous handheld Call of Duty games to this because the Vita can offer console quality gaming. Previous handhelds couldn't (though the PSP was close).

People don't seem to realize that dual analog sticks on a handheld is a game changer and opens up a large amount of games and genres to be perfectly playable in it. Imagine, Nintendo decided to add one after, so that should show you how important it is :P

I dont see that working at all. Accidentally bumping it with your fingers would be too easy.

You're not supposed to rest your fingers there, and that system is already being used by many games.

In Fifa it's even more impressive, it simulates the goal and where you click it's where the ball will go on the goal, during normal gameplay.

OK

But you just...

-____-

I guess I should have been more clear, sorry. What I original meant is that the Wii install base is twice the amount of PS3, for example, but then I realized that the 3DS has sold how much? compare that to Vita current sales? isn't it like 15 times that amount?

Wii vs PS3 = 2 times
3DS vs Vita = 15 times? (I'm just guessing)

it's too much of a difference, but I do believe new consumers will buy a vita for COD than a 3DS for the same game.

Left and Right side of the rear touchpad. Hell you can even split it in 4 if you want.

The "Analogue" aspect of the buttons isn't really used in CoD is it?

you click the right stick to knife and left to sprint. I assume you will sprint by holding X(like A on the wii) and knife not sure

I wanna see how it controls on the Vita while it lacks Analog buttons(?), L2/R2 shoulder buttons.

Very few games actually use the sensitivity in buttons. I'm not even sure the 360 buttons are pressure sensitive.

L2/R2 on Vita are missed. When I played Uncharted for the first time, it took a second to realize the layout was a little different. But between the front and back touch and d-pad, there's plenty of ways to design around it.

That's not what I meant, the pressure sensitivity of the buttons, pressingly slightly acting differently then pressing all the way. IIRC CoD doesn't use that and that's the only thing the vita can't replicate.

Yeah, and it's not just dual analogs, it's the overall power of the handheld too. They don't even have to scale down games from their PS3 counterparts very much, opening up even more possibilities.

Is the back multi touch? You could use it as shift keys if it were holding back left shifts the left shoulder button. right does the right shoulder.

Left Analogue (Button) for sprinting, Right Analog button for Melee Attack. Both of them are essential.

L2/R2 are used for grenades, IIRC.

I know that the devs will find a way to make it controls (mostly) like console version but i have a feeling that there are going to be compromises.

Yeah, you're right, and let's not forget a proper online system for a handheld at least.

Most people play their handhelds at home anyway. On the go doesn't mean commuting, you can move inside your house (or at least that's what I think, right?).

Oh no doubt, I played on my PSP quite a bit at home. However for a game like COD, if you're at home, I can't see many reasons why you'd play on a Vita as opposed to your console. Someone hogging the TV? COD on the crapper? Eh, for the few times that'd come up.....maybe, but I just can't see it being a huge draw. Anyway, you're still likely to be gimped control wise compared to those using Dualshocks on their PS3s.

Don't you know that you can actually click Left and Right analog sticks? I'm sorry if my post wasn't clear.

Yeah it is.

Well the triggers by nature are, and all racing games use them, but i wasn't sure if CoD used it for something or not. The rest of the buttons are only on the PS3.

5" is fucking tiny when you compare it to a 42" plasma screen.

-I don't have a console. (that's me, and I don't plan to own one, hell I don't even own a plasma TV, I've just got a HDTV).
-Someone is watching the TV and I want to play.
-I want to crap but I want to play while doing it.

And playing on the go is possible, it's not like all the access points in the fucking world are bad for playing games. I live in Brazil and I see people playing online game on shoppings, I don't think there'll be a problem in Europe, Asia or USA.

How comfortable is the Vita when having your thumbs on the sticks and using the backpad? Seems like a painful reach for smaller hands.

I think this would work fine, I'm sure they can even set it with a deadzone near the borders so people don't click it by mistake.

Honestly this does seem true. I haven't held the thing, but it looks like it would be way better with asymmetrical analog sticks.

Right Analog: Aiming
Left Analog: Movement
R button: Fire
L button: Zoom
Square: Run
X: Jump
Circle: melee
Triangle: Grenades
Down on d-pad: crouch
Left and Right on d-pad: switch weapons
Up on d-pad: change grenades
Touchscreen: Reload

May not be the best but it's what I could think of.

Here's a fun little exercise for you:

Sit in front of your 42" plasma TV from a normal distance. Now use your hands to make a rectangle that's about 5" wide, and hold it there about a foot to a foot and a half in front of you between you and the TV.

You can see things just as well on a small screen if the pixel density is high enough and you are viewing it from a close distance like you might do with, gee I dunno... a handheld? :P

Yup like I said, those are legitimate reasons, I just can't see them being relevant to many COD fans. Who knows.

You need to check the latency (ping) on those connections. Just being able to jump on a public access point doesn't mean that the connection is fine for a game like COD. Ping is extremely important for a game like this. The people you see playing in public places are unlikely to be playing a fast, synchronous multiplayer game like COD.

With the amount of buttons CoD uses, I'm not sure how many options you'll end up having, really.

This shit has a fucking multi-touch screen. It has a lot of inputs. Like I've said many times, creativity is what they'll need. To make the controls intuitive and good enough to anyone.

I'll stop discussing this. It's not even the point of the thread. I hope people can see that, even not being a fucking system seller, it is something that adds to the Vita line-up and can potentially sell units for some, if pushed correctly.

god I hope they do a good job on this...I dont give a crap about COD, and care even less then that for a handheld COD. Fans will eat this up and thats good for Vita.

But it also has it on the back. I think it would be easier, and more importantly for a game like this, faster, to use the fingers that are already close in place rather then having to take your hand away from the face buttons to touch the front screen.

The Vita supports gestures on the touch pad as well, so why not just use a swipe on the right for knife and swipe on the left for sprint? It's an easy gesture but hard to do on accident.

I really don't see CoD being a system seller for the Vita. Anyone who doesn't already own a Vita will just buy it for PS3/360.

Yeah, using the actual screen for anything other than viewing the game would be just horribly counterproductive to any real sense of competition. They'll probably offer an option for a couple of things, but I can't see them mandating it unless they've gone on board the crazy train.

I will never make the mistake of buying another CoD for consoles.

Well, what makes you think that a Vita version would be any better? The fact that it's portable? Not trying to say it won't be a good game, but I don't see what would really separate it from the console version (outside of the portability).

If none of my bros have a Vita to get call of duty on, then me and my bros are getting it on xbox.

well that's what I expect a "bro" might say.

I would free up a button by placing stance/crouch on the rear touch pad (if I had to put anything there)... swipe down to crouch etc.

Running is too important to leave to any kind of gesture

Call of Duty's MP over 3G?

No, no that's not going to work.

This sounds very reasonable. Now what about using kill streaks? L+R at the same time? Tap it on the touch screen maybe? Swipe the back touch pad instead of tapping it?
