Its jank as fuck. I didn't want to say anything when the one low score review popped up recently with everyone thinking it was the reviewer. But its not...up to par.

At least we’re getting an actual dead space remake. Would’ve preferred a proper sequel but I’ll take it over this walmart brand shit.

I'm personally still planning to buy this day one because looking at most reviews they liking the atmosphere and horror but they hate the difficulty which was kind of same deal with original Evil Within but I enjoyed that game a lot.

So far these reviews give me no reason to skip this game.
This was RE4 of the last gen for me. A difficult horror game is no excuse to take 30-50 points from the game.

Fucking hell. You're one of the reviewers I trust the most. Welp, canceling my PS5 pre order and putting that to Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII instead. I'm not gonna pay $70 for AAAA jank.
Some patches could shore up some of the animations that aren't directly relying on things that require a huge rework. But the combat isn't even hard as much as straight-up jank.
Which isn't super surprising but still disappointing. And ya then at a cheaper price with some patches it could be a far better experience and probably more bang for your buck.

Yeah. One person wants Citizen Kane and the other just wants a good horror game in space.

Is it strange that I feel I have become so disenchanted with review scores that this makes me want to play the game even more? I know I'll probably regret it but after seeing Ragnarok get a 94 I'm not really sure what I'm even expecting an MC score to mean anymore. I think Ragnarok was a great game, but has obviously glaring issues such as excessive hand-holding, terrible pacing, and level design that overstays its welcome far before you can complete all of the game's content. If the game had less hand-holding, less puzzles, less scripted sequences where you do very non-God-of-War things, and less repetitive side content would it have gotten a lower MC score from these same outlets?
Judge yourself with your own eyeballs. Watch footage.

Called the score. Still interested - will check the Steam reviews when I get home and see if it’s a decent port.

Represent.

Represent(ative) of bad opinions
Its crazy how reviews work - You mean they ALL think its a 6-7/10? Like not one person said damn this is fire, I love it, this is a 9?

Its like they all communicate before they publish their review and ask eachother what they're going to score it, then all give it the same score.

I'll still give it a shot after Im done with Ragnarok.

Predicted a 72 MC, seems like im right on.

IGN "A proper remake might be rising from the grave next year, but the festering corpse of Dead Space has come lurching back to life early in the form of The Callisto Protocol."

How do they know the EA DS remake will be good? Something is definitely going on here lol
EA is like one of the biggest companies in the entire industry and these people profit off of anything that comes from them in their stinking coverage.

I think it might be a little unfair to use The Evil Within considering it has near-RE4 quality Mikami game design and combat. All the reviews say combat specifically sucks for this lol

Man The Evil Within was really fucking good though, shame it was really overlooked.

I play it judge the game myself when it comes to its combat. Worse case scenario, I do what I did with Horizon, sell it back and put it towards Dead Space remake. I rather do that than risk of missing good game just because of “scores”.

Just finished chapter two.

I swear reading this thread you’d think this is the Balan Wonderworld for the year. This isn’t some unmitigated disaster holy shit.

Anyway the combat to this point is the low spot. It’s definitely melee focused and it isn’t bad it’s just generic.

Visuals and presentation so far is lights out great.

As a trophy hunter no New Game plus really blows. But - the number of collectibles isn’t overwhelming (43) so it’s manageable.

Still very early obviously.

On steam it is all negative due to Stutter and Crash issue. Some users are saying even Ray Tracing off on RTX 3080 it drops to 20 fps.

Even one user had to play everything at low on RTX 3070 at 1080p to get consitent ant 60 Fps.

That’s why for the most part I can trust reviews. When a game has liek 40 different outlets in the same range it’s like okay, there’s something wrong with the product. You do get those games like death stranding that get 7.5s and 10s you need to play yourself. This seems like a less polished run of the mill game. Expected an 8 hoped for a 9+…didn’t expect clunkyness.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.

Looks like PC folks are in for a rough one.

holy mother of shader caching ..

The second paragraph in the review:-

The stuttering and slowing down whenever anything moves is especially problematic in a horror game where your survival depends on quickly dodge-reacting to sudden threats. So I can't, right now, recommend you get The Callisto Protocol on PC. If Striking Distance get it running properly? Eh. Maybe.

Mid 70's?

Called it. The leaked footage didn't really pass the eye test but I'll still pick this up down the line. Would rather get midnight sun's before the end of the year to be honest if I'm to get a more recent game before then.

Looking forward to seeing where the steam reviews end up for this.

Would be insane if the Dead Space remake is 90+ reviewed after this.

Why, wouldn't that be expected? That's the great thing about remakes - you know the fundamentals are sound (especially with improvements from DS sequel) so all you have to really nail is bringing tech up to par with modern day. From what we've seen so far, it looks like it'll be gorgeous.

You're not suggesting conspiracy, right? Most everyone was rooting for this game. Logical explanation is they all saw the same flaws and rated accordingly. Like you, I predicted score in the 70s. I had a feeling there was a problem when promo focused way too much on tech and too little on gameplay. As a guy who loves pretty graphics, that's saying something.

The way the camera spergs out during combat looks nauseating. Like, how are you gonna make a melee focused game and fuck up the combat so badly? God damn. Don’t these dumbasses play the games they’re making? Who thought that was acceptable? Lmao

Damn gamestop is giving $30 credit for xbox one controllers and I have 5 old ones lying around, planned to pick this up with that, but it seems it might go on sale quick with these reviews.

What's up with all the reviews saying the Dead Space Remake will be great?

"If you were hoping this would be the second coming of Dead Space, you’ll need to wait for next year’s remake."

IGN "A proper remake might be rising from the grave next year, but the festering corpse of Dead Space has come lurching back to life early in the form of The Callisto Protocol."
i'm missing the part where either review claims that the 'remake will be great'. where is that said, exactly?:

'second coming of dead space'? well, it's the remake, so, yeah, that's literally what it is...

'a proper remake might be rising from the grave next year'? you do see the word 'might' in there, correct?...

have you played dead space? did you enjoy it? can you understand that many who enjoyed the game are looking forward to the remake in the same way people looked forward to other remakes, like shadow of the colossus & demon's souls, & hoping that it will be equally as good?...

no tinfoil hat necessary. people are, naturally enough, hoping for a good remake of a great & popular game. end of conspiracy...
