And see, this is why I hate it. I love persona and I love the persona community, because there's such a wide variety of topics in the game to discuss. However, more often than not, at least on the discussion board, Persona threads devolve into banter about the female characters. It's weird, obnoxious, and borderline sexist. And I know I've been a part of it before too, but I really realized how much it was bothering other people.

Now the same thing is happening with Fire Emblem and it's really bugging me out. I've got no problem that these systems are in these games I love, but it just attracts this really disturbing and alienating conversation that dominates the scene.

How is it weird? It's a game with dating sim elements, you want people to not talk about what their favorite pairings are?

No, I'm not the only one. A lot of our moderation on these issues is done by a group after lengthy discussion. However, we are all volunteers and would all prefer if people would take some responsibility and self-moderate using common sense more often.

I don't agree banning words is the solution. I think mods deciding a thread has been derailed by people therefore people should get suspensions and a warning, is totally reasonable.

I also agree that we should leave moderating and policy up to the staff and isn't something people should try to dictate. They no doubt have threse discussions behind the scenes all the time.

But, as I sometimes learned the hard way, this isn't a small community forum: it's a big open discussion board. People get real alienated by that shit.

It's just way too easy to take it too far. That's why it's not something you can really moderate or ban, it's just something more people need to be aware of so they can turn it off at the appropriate times. It's just about being aware, really.

I also agree that we should leave moderating and policy up to the staff and isn't something people should try to dictate. They no doubt have threse discussions behind the scenes all the time. But if we are having that discussion, I say banning the word is pointless. But banning people for deraling threads with waifu talks is reasonable. Especially if it seems to be a constant problem.

Then most one off comments with the potential to derail would have to be scrutinized as well. You would risk changing the culture of this place.

Discussion here is a fine balance. Occasionally one side wins out or takes over and Evilore has to step in and reset the pace to make it most enjoyable for the majority of the posters here, not just a certain subset.
