Can we get Lost Odyssey ported and remastered

Now that Xbox is a third party publisher rather than a competitive platform holder, it makes little sense to keep Lost Odyssey locked down to a single platform. Its lifetime sales were reportedly under one million units. Would be a low effort win. Blue Dragon too, if that's your thing.

Sakaguchi reportedly has "no interest" in doing so, but that's ridiculous at this point.

I say hell yes to this. My brother bought me lost odyssey years ago as a birthday present when i was a kid with my 360 and i loved it. To this day the game has one of the best openings of all time, up there with dragon age origins etc and the story is a masterpiece. For the love of everything holy, just remaster it and give us the game in 4k glory running at 60fps!!!

Still one of the best (j)RPGs of that era, and it killed me that we never got another. That game was made with pure love and creativity, with all those tales of their given lives over their endless years being damn great (the prison darkness one I still remember strongly in memory today).
Beautiful music, epic battles and set pieces, and a great true traditional turn-based JRPG in every way. It was a proper FF title in all but name.

Makes me glad we got Clair Obscur this gen, as far as true spiritual successors go in many ways.

The game was a part of Xbox Platinum hit collection so I don't believe it sold under 1 million. Xbox is rumored to be working on an emulator based on a Linkedin listing from Xbox. Just wait for that, I don't see them investing resources in remastering a game like this and porting it to other systems.

Most hopeful news is if it gets decompiled like how this mad man has worked on with it coming fully ported over to PC to allow best settings possible.

I mean it is still work to make a up to date version and we aren't sure the public reception will be better than the last time, are we ?

I agree with you on the fact that remakes and remaster should concentrate on great games that for one reason or another did not really find their public at the time of their release tho. Give a new lease on life to not well known masterpieces instead of cash grabbing legendary IPs.

I understand it would be impossible to sell this to corpo suits but still it should be the point of remakes.

Requirement for Xbox Platinum Hit was 400k units sold per Wikipedia (its cited IGN article just claims "sold well", but the Platinum Hit title list clearly includes games that sold under 1 million):

Article:
The requirement for being a Platinum Hits title was selling at least 400,000 copies and being on the market for at least nine months after release,[1] and have dropped in price from their original MSRP to a lower price, generally that of $19.99,[2]

One of the few reasons I might pick up a Series S or X on firesale in a couple years or so since I already own it digitally

I never finished it back in the day, it'd be nice to get to play this with some much needed QoL updates. I think it would take a miracle to see this get a rerelease. 😔

It runs pretty well on emulators now actually. But I still want a port of this and Ninja Gaiden Black badly.

NG Black on the XSX is basically a remaster Benny, that 4K@60 is just chef'skiss.jpg

...Lost Odyssey though with its 720p resolution and 30fps gameplay not so much, in fact , it.was one of the reasons why I dropped it after a couple of hours after rebuying it on the XSX.

This is in dire need of a 4K60 remaster, no two ways about it.

yes fucking plz

Listen, I'm no big JRPG fan but, this would sell much better nowadays due to A) even bigger nostalgia , B) JRPGs not being a dime a dozen like back then and C) People apparently like this type of genre judging by Clair Obscure's success and sales.

I mean, HOW HARD would it be to - basically - uprez the whole thing and having it run at 60fps ? Surely they'd recover the investment pretty quickly ?

I know and it's the one reason I want a series X but I'm not buying a console for 1 (one) game

At this point, it feels like we'll get some sort of "all Xbox games run on Windows" emulation layer (for handhelds) to play this game, rather than a proper port or remaster.

Lost Odyssey is great and at least on modern Xbox consoles has a locked 30fps and reduced load times. It would've been perfect when enhanced though.

Its often on sale, if you happen to have an Xbox, get it. Its one of the best JRPG I've played in the last 5 years. LO basically has everything you'd want from a JRPG.

Nostalgia for the JRPG genre might be an argument... But i don't think people are that eager for JRPG. They are eager for great games in genre others than "cinematic single player game". Clair Obscur gameplay is a thousand leagues better than Lost Odyssey's, which was already dated when it came out in 2008. If you just give it up to date visuals, it won't be enough for the majority of people, and rightly so.

At some point dated transitions into classic. I just played through the FF1-3 pixel remasters and had a great time.

I've said for a long time that the game would do great business on Switch in Japan and I'm surprised MS haven't ported it already.

Fantastic game, sorely underrated.

I love how GAF evolves and we can have these threads.

Heck, lets add Bodycount and The Darkness to the mix too. Re-release that stuff.

The first BC game I bought after getting the SX. Wish this was given some rez boosts so it would be more up-to-date.

The introduction is one of the most impressive things I have seen in video game.
Game was great, the pacing was just weirdly off sometimes.

The intro and Train sequence were so damn amazing how it all transitioned from cut scene to in-game. Ah man, so many cool ass moments you can't help but smile when you remember.

Fuck Lost Odyssey, where's an ICO remake?
No one is asking for a remake of Lost Odyssey and a remake of Ico would diminish the quality of the original game. I guess you like consuming rather than preserving anything with artistic merit.

Was speaking about Lost Odyssey the other day to someone when I mentioned Fantasian. (Which I own but need to play.) Last time I played it was 2011. Would love a PS5 port.

I will have to see if I still have my save. I totally forgot where I left off in that game. I remember I saved the main character's lover.

ICO was one of the most influental games in history (which frankly, Lost Odyssey was not), I'm not asking for a bad remake, I want a great remake to make everyone happy.

didn't Sakaguchi praise XVI and commented on how FF has molded over the years? IMO he's friends with all these people and any negative comments would sour a potential deal. I love his work with FF and Mistwalker, but I question why he thinks so highly of the work other people have done with his creations.

I'd also like to see them port it. It's so weird when creators don't see the same viewpoint of their fans. This is why we spent so much money on your stuff. Sooner or later we won't spend the money. lol

Currently playing on Series X and it's great, a remaster is not needed IMO.

Yes!!! I don't know when or if they will do it but yes!!! Switch 2 , Ps5 and Xbox series consoles please (and PC)

I wonder if the lifetimes sales make the idea of a remaster not really financially viable. But, if they can get it up and running along with increased performance with other console games on the Xbox OS, as part of a truly unified PC/console ecosystem....
