Can we talk about the apparent iCloud break-in?

I go to look at Twitter and there is a near topless photo of Michael Pachter's wife that Michael Pachter tweeted.

I am confused.

Hate to blame the victims, but celebrities really should've learned by now not to take nude photos under any circumstances.

1. Your cell phone could be lost and/or stolen
2. If emailing or messaging them, they're on a server somewhere
3. If using features like iCloud Photo Stream or Android's Auto Backup, they're on a server somewhere
4. Boyfriend can leak them (whether intentionally due to an angry breakup or accidentally like a lost phone)
5. Your house could get robbed (look up the Hollywood Hills Burglars)

It's not like this is a new trend either. After the dozens of other previous celeb leaks like Kat Dennings and ScarJo, you would think these celebs would be more hesitant to take risks like this.

Might be one of those NSA vulnerabilities.
Probably not (more likely to be social engineering...), but who knows.

A) encrypt your sensitive data before you upload it
B) encrypt your sensitive data before you store it

Well multiple people expressed surprise the pictures existed in the first place.

I'm sure numerous girls I know have had boyfriends post photos places or share them with friends though. They aren't famous so it doesn't end up on the news or shared a billion times lol.

Yeah, I actually get shit when I don't share pictures of my exes, or be willing to look at my friends naked girlfriends.

Shit is disturbing sometimes. Knew a guy who just randomly started whipping out videos at small gatherings if it was only guys around. He almost got his ass beat and a girls friends showed up at his door and got his entire home video collection from him lol.

I don't think anyone cares that much really. It's 'shocking' for two days and then no one seems to care.

Unless I'm wrong but this hasn't seem to had a huge effect on any victim in the past.

I saw three Glee girls on there. Lea Michele had a non-scandalous photo, but the other two newer girls... wow, the one who's still a virgin on the show just proved that she isn't in real life lol.

And the other girl who had some naked time while unwrapping Christmas presents (lol) took to Twitter saying: "Merry XXXmas!"

Might as well roll with it.

I did sort of chuckle when mashable included Jenny McCarthy in that list.

I'm not able to articulate exactly why but I feel like if you're against nsa snooping but enjoy naked celeb photo leaks you're probably a hypocrite.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I did this a few month ago.

Yeah, but I guess it does make sense as a security measure. I already have two factor auth set up on my gmail account because I actually use it. I didn't really think about doing it with iCloud as I haven't actually done anything with it yet.

Yeah, I don't like being moralistic, but I personally think it is 100% wrong to look at these photos (and probably illegal?). Not to mention that they're probably on shady unsafe websites...

For most people I agree, but I think this leak will absolutely destroy Kate Upton's career.

Are people still going to be excited about seeing her bikini modeling pics when they've already seen her completely naked with jizz all over her body? Kind of doubt it.

In a few days, yeah. But right now, before the lawyers have started descending and sending takedown notices to absolutely everyone, not really.

There are tons of models out there that have done nude work that people still go gaga over for bikini shoots. This is barely have any effect on her career as a model, especially since it's not like people are buying the bikini images.

PS: People need to turn on two factor authentication for EVERYTHING THEY CAN!

fyi, they were all over Twitter for a good deal of this afternoon. You could see that Jennifer Lawrence was trending and wonder why, click on it and then...

surprised it took them so long to deal with the situation.

edit: also I find it really creepy to talk about how much you (as a general term. not you, guy I quoted) enjoyed these photos. It's like if you were talking about some girl you were spying on without her permission.

It takes a special group of psychopaths to claim men are the oppressed ones in society while simultaneously hacking female celebrities in order to make their nude pics public.

Twitter doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to anything remotely involving intervention that isn't on behalf of a government entity. See: The horrible things Zelda Williams had to put up with.

I have to disagree with you solely because you seem to be grouping every user on there together. Just like us on GAF, you'll have members that have different ideals (morals?).

Irrefutable proof that Kirsten Dunst is hot! In your face, GAF!

EDIT: Also, shameful violation of privacy, etc. etc.

You do realize that she's got like 3-5 nude scenes at this point. Whatever leaked isn't showing us something we haven't already seen with better clarity.

Edit: And this whole thing reminds me of the Erin Andrews incident, where if you looked at what leaked it felt like you needed to take a shower afterwards to try to get the sleaze off yourself.

I remember reading that they had modified trends so that certain things (Justin Bieber) would pop-up. I would think that maybe they could make an attempt to keep JLaw from trending, but that's probably more complicated than I'm thinking.

I was going to make a comparison between how they and 4chan handled the situation, but then I realized how stupid that was lol.

Let me school ya'll on how this is done.

Most of these leaks happen before Apple implemented their 2-step verification system for icloud.

So the procedure would be:

1) Obtain user's icloud email
2) Reset password using security question (which was laughably easy considering Apple didn't impose any fail locks)
3) Use a software callled Elcomsoft Phone Password Breaker to download icloud backups
4) De-encrypt the backups and have access to messages, calendars, contacts, and most importantly...photos.

Shit was stupid easy.

Holy shit at the amount of things leaked. I you are famous never under any circumstances allow someone to take a nude picture of you.

It's not about doing it when famous, it's about doing it when not famous and it coming back to bite you later.

It's the reason I'd never want to be "discovered" lol. TMZ would dig into my past and I'd be exposed and the devil.

When I was 21 I took a picture of a towel hanging off of my dick and sent it to a girl I was casually seeing.

I hope I get famous one day and it comes back to haunt me.
