This is the exact same situation as if your neighbour was smoking weed under your window. What if it wasn't your window, but your child's window? Does that change anything?

I'm 33 and I own a piece of property big enough that I don't need to worry about what my neighbors are doing. If your neighbors compost is by your fence and it's causing you distress you can talk to them about it. If they don't move it and it's in compliance with the city bylaws then there's nothing you can really do about it.
I'm enough of an adult to realize that I don't get to control what people do in their own houses.

Thank you for this, I'm just so frustrated with people that can't understand simple concepts, I end up fighting back and forth because they can't be bothered to just read past points.
I am a Dad, I grew up, I have kids, I have asshole neighbours, I own my house. I am OK with legalization, but I want people to keep this to themselves, I don't want to be stuck inside, or have to keep my windows closed.
I've been there, I was a young person, I did shit, I was all like lol stupid adults, but I moved past that, things change. You understand actions have consequences.
I don't even want to say anymore because it always just flies back and forth on this stupid forum.

I don't know anyone laying solo simple possession charges for marijuana anymore. THe prevalent attitude that I perceive is officers just don't consider it to be worth the time and effort.
To me, the vast majority of those charges have got to be charges added on as a "gimme" stemming from an unrelated arrest, or as a means of showing someone breaching the conditions of their bail, etc.

Apparently there are a couple parks where homeless people smoke, but for the most part MJ is not all over the place. The only time you smell MJ is when you drive by the part of town where it's being grown, which are industrial areas where if it didn't smell like MJ it would smell like dog food and pollution.

The 'illegal seeds' bit is dumb. Maybe buy some 'legal' seeds to have on had for legal purposes, but I'd grow whatever. I'm not buying into patented/GMO cultivars. I'm breeding and buying stock now before they get too far with that shit.

Ironically, I could see the reverse happening.
We barely spend resources on it now, but with a legal regime, the government may encourage efforts being made to stamp out "contraband" marijuana sales, similar to current enforcement against contraband tobacco.

How do you regulate it..I think that's what the government isn't sure of. They'll figure it out or it'll be mass produced - not made by a bunch of stoners in their basement suite kitchen.

Busy/noisy roads, music too loud, barbecues, cars ideling in driveways, neighbours screaming over a hockey goal, loitering teenagers, unsightly curtains, not mowing their lawn/shovelling snow from their share of the driveway etc etc etc... You generally have to put up with other human's shit when you live in the suburbs.
My neighbour 2 doors down smokes a lot of medical marijuna in his backyard for pain management. Probably about 3-5 grams a day. My neighbours mounted a complaint to the city about it and they came and installed some sort of sensor device near their fence, which was needed to enforce the QoL bylaw. The city said a few weeks later that they can't do anything because the readings picked up by this device wasn't good enough to affect QoL. My neighbours were pissed and we're acting like the mere occasional smell of marijuana would give them cancer.
If you're sitting in an unventilated room with someone smoking a joint then their may be some negative impacts. If someone is smoking a joint in their back yard and the smell drifts through an open window then then I doubt there is anything notably damaging to health.

I can see what you mean about enforcement costs probably going up - new equipment for roadside checks and even just the time spent drawing up new enforcement policies is going to cost. And like you said, single possession charges aren't really taking up a lot of jail space (for adults anyways)
Hopefully they look at Colorado. It's regulated pretty well here, there are all kinds of packaging and serving size regulations.

There's no law about having them too strong here, just selling them too strong. The limit in stores is crazy low, like 10mg per serving. The ones my wife used to get at the med shops could be up to 250-500mg per serving. She'd have to eat like 50 cookies from the store to get the same effects.
