My particular district is super conservative so there is no way any other parties have a chance to win. My vote to Green will probably be wasted, but I just can't see myself voting those two power-hungry parties this time. The NDP has no fiscal responsibility as far as I can tell with things like Bob Rae... etc, so I am hesitant to vote for them this time.DrEvil said:I used to vote Green, but their representation here means my vote goes to shit, as we're a very 'liberal' oriented area, so I switched to NDP.. the bigger and more organized version of the green party..
NDP is the way to go, IMO.
and it's free!!!_leech_ said:Cry me a fucking river, guys. It's one day to vote.
And millions of dollars we could be spending elsewhere. Stupid fucking power hungry piece of shit parties. Why does every politician in this country have the ineptness of George W Bush?_leech_ said:Cry me a fucking river, guys. It's one day to vote.
Let's not vote. That'll fucking show them!Kifimbo said:Let's hope the turnout is less than 50%.
I know I won't vote.
exactly vote Liberal for majority and get back to normalFraull said:wow again? i wouldnt mind seeing Harper out of office though. It is time we vote for a majority government, so we can avoid all this non confidence bullshit.
gutter_trash said:bah humbug with our Electoral System, I hate the Riding System.
Gilles Duceppe is my MP here in my Montreal riding. WTF why even bother leaving the house to vote? As long as he is still here, he wins too easily
gutter_trash said:Everyone who votes for the NDP in a Liberal riding is actually helping Harper win.
so set your far-left mentaility aside and just vote Liberal and let the Liberals win a majority so we can get back to normal

Wow....how many have we had now in the past few years? Is this 3, or 4?
When run properly, under the principles of compromise and co-operation, a Minority Government could work very well. The problem is the trio of asshats currently running the show. Harper in particular.gutter_trash said:as for your Quebecers who vote for the Bloc... you are sticking us into a perpetual Minority forever and minroirty goverments SUCK!!! I hate minority governemnts, they are so short sighted and always in Campaign mode
Liberal Majority FTW
gutter_trash said:exactly vote Liberal for majority and get back to normal
Greens?? for what? there are unelectable
NDP?? for what? they just compete against the Liberals
Bloc? for what? for regional self serving pride? they are the reason why we have had 3 consercutive minorities
Liberal is the only way to vote for a natural Canadian
Conservatives are way too fiscally blunderful and full of walking contradictions. Flaherty is one piss poor Finance Minsiter (who used to be Mike Harris' lackey)

Yeah. I don't understand people not voting.NetMapel said:Go out and vote, seriously. In the recent BC provincial election, somebody won the seat over the other candidate by a margin of 2 votes.
I vote but it's pointless to do so and I know it. Our electoral system is bullshit.aztrex said:Why aren't you going to vote, if you don't mind me asking?
It's an empty and pointless duty that has as much impact for most of us as taking the ballot paper and dropping it into a open fire rather than a ballot box. Our ancient and archaic FPTP electoral system wastes most of the votes we cast and it is absurd.Don't get me wrong, I know just perfectly well how easy it is to become disillusioned with the electoral process when you have fucking nonsense going on like this, but as my friend's dad explained to me, that's where our duty as citizens in a democracy comes into play;
I disagree with you 100%ProudClod said:I'm sorry, but that's not the way politics work. There will always be a small base of the population that has made up their mind about something. They are a TINY minority, however. Most people don't know who they're voting for, or whether they're voting at all. Even people who have supported certain parties their entire lives may not go vote during a certain election. GOTV is a huge part of elections. Without GOTV we probably wouldn't break 3% voter turnout.
He wins "easily", because he is a hard worker. Whether or not he's a good politician is up to debate. However, he is good at making sure that people support him, and that supporters go and vote.
You can be the most loved personality in the world, but unless you have volunteers constantly calling registered voters and supporters, MAKING SURE THEY VOTE, none of that support is going to matter.
WEGGLES said:Yeah. I don't understand people not voting.
It pisses me off.
I mean. My cousin didn't vote last time because she didn't know who the candidates were and didn't know how to find out, and couldn't care less about it as a whole. What the hell? Just wiki the Canadian Election to get an easy to digest basic bullet point list of where each candidate stands. And how can you not care? Arggg
And then ass hats who don't vote to send a message... how can you send a message when you take away your voice?
If you can vote... please votes. :S

in our British Parliementary system, the Bloc reigns strong.
Gilles Duceppe is way too strong in my riding. As a voter, there is nothing I can do about it under our Birtish Parliementary system, he wins easily and no pep-talk will convince me other wise because the numbers speak for themslevs.
I am a strong advocate for proportional representation to boost up particiaption because under our current system, we do not really voice or voice when voting.
We got power house MPs like Duceppe who are king and cannot be dethroned under our system.
So, voting in Canada is not really voting for who you believe in... it is voting for 1st or 2nd place in your riding.
Your candiadter is in 3rd place? okay, vote for the 2nd place guy to dethrone the 1st place guy... our system is broken
Yeah. If you don't like any candidates at least vote for the one you like the most. Or vote for the one most likely to win over the one you like the least... or something.ProudClod said:Seriously. "I don't like any of the candidates" is not an excuse either. At least help us choose the lesser of the evils!
Ottawa sucks during election time. Completely flooded with propagandic crap and billboards every 2 feet along the streets._leech_ said:Cry me a fucking river, guys. It's one day to vote.

Azih said:I've lived in safe Liberal ridings the whole time I've been in Canada. What the hell is the fucking point of 'doing my duty' of voting. It's a sham exercise.
ProudClod said:He wins easily because he has a lot of support, yes. However, he also knows how to make his supporters VOTE. 1 supporter =/= 1 voter. If he DIDN'T leave his house, and DIDN'T have his volunteers calling supporters every day, and DIDN'T make speeches, and DIDN'T go door to door to gain support, all it would take is a good GOTV to dethrone him.
Everything else you said is true, and I'm not contesting.
gutter_trash said:The day that he retires, is the day that this riding becomes open. This riding is the most Leftist riding in all of Canada. The NDP is in 2nd place here, Liberals in 3rd, Greens in 4th, Conservatives in 5th
Gilles Duceppe has all the totals of his opponents combined and more. He is way too strong here as long as he continuously runs

Yeah, because Harper is some sort of victim here.grumble said:I can't wait to vote Conservative. The Liberals are getting really scummy with their political tactics, and trying to stop them will feel so good.
