Man, The Last Story has just about disappeared; I'm talkin' Xenoblade/Fire Emblem-level issues. I better nab one up!

Re: Excitebots

I asked them to check for interest's sake: the pre-owned copy would be $0.97, and the bundle with the wheel, should you find one new, would be $3.

lol

Nabbed the $2 one instantly (it's all they had); ExciteTruck (haven't played Bots, but I imagine it's similar/better?) was the most fun I'd had with a racer, probably in my life. Can't get into Mario Kart or the fast futuristic ones like Wipeout/F-Zero; they always feel so unforgiving.

Also, wtf @Bell's new Unlimited Internet option. Is this for real? If you have 3 bundled services with them (as my household does - landline/fibeTV/fibeNet) you can tack on Unlimited for $10? $30 if you have 2 bundled services? That...seems suspiciously good by Canadian standards?

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!

People only have until March 31st to add it to their plan (also for new customers) and then the deal is gone. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't offer it again. Rogers is doing the same thing.

Shit, they are? Amazing. And rather unprecedented for Canadians?

Got into retentions today and could get Express with 300gb for 71.99 or unlimited for $94.99 (unless i switched home phone, rented a modem for $8/month, and signed for 2 years, then it was $62 or 65 or something like that). I really would have preferred the 300gb Express or Extreme package for $45 but they wouldn't budge. Haven't signed anything yet, would like to avoid contracts.

When have you been charged extra for going over your bandwidth "cap" on your Shaw or Telus?

i have a friend who works at shaw and he told me recently that the enforcement of bandwidth caps is coming very soon.

i don't have telus yet, but my bf wants to switch for the tv and i will likely switch his internet along with it so that he gets a better deal.

When you switch to Telus check RFD for a 10/10/10 or 15/15 deal so you can get TV + Internet for $30 a month for the first year with one year contract.

I'm with another internet provider but curious- how much of a cap do you think they'll be doing? Is this a 200 GB cap or a 60 GB cap-ish?

We've been recently getting calls from Rogers about this offer of an unlimited service as well but we decided not to switch because we don't really trust Rogers....

There's always that feeling that they'll screw us over once we've signed into a contract and are stuck.

Has anybody traded in movies at Deja Vu Discs? I'm looking to sell a few Blu-rays, and they offer cash exchange. I was wondering if anybody has had experience with them.

I've bought some blu-rays and games from them before, although never traded in anything. They seem pretty reputable, anyway.

.

Shaw will be locking down very soon if not already.

Side note as they're a pain with all their traffic shaping in Vancouver and Calgary. At least here on the west coast.

I'm with Rogers right now and that "deal" is a joke. I'm seriously considering Teksavvy or Acanac cable internet, is the former provider any good?

Okay, two days ago I applied a Tomb Raider discount code on my cart at Future Shop. I checked yesterday and it was still applied.

Now today I check, the code applied is gone and it's back to 59.99. What's the deal?

Speed projections on eksavvy seem capped though — Bell/Rogers is already offering 150/150 in very select areas while teksavvy is still struggling to pin down 35/7 . And Teksavvy doesn't provide TV services... cable tv could either go the way of the dodo or maybe Apple puts out a TV this year, gets in bed with the content companies and nothing/everything changes...

It's unlikely that Bell, Rogers etc will offer unlimited again after this promotion but is it worth camping on Bell/Rogers unlimited plan just in case it proves to be very valuable in a year or two?

Teksavvy has better infrastructure and customer service. Acanac us slower but still reliable and cheaper if you go on a one year plan.

It will only affect those on bump up plans in which case if you go over your limit you are given a warning the first time. After that you pay for the plan above if you go over which is about $10 more. Considering the slowest plan with bump up allows for 400GB a month it shouldn't be much of a problem except for those that are trying to download all the porn. It's still a hell of a lot better than what's available down east.

Are the caps really that much worse out east?

I currently have a 500GB cap with Telus' 25mbps plan although they don't enforce it anyway so it doesn't really matter.

I have a 25mbps plan with shaw that has no enforced limit myself. In Ontario a 25mbps plan has a 80GB limit.

We have 200 and 300 gig caps. Some of the caps on bell and rogers are dogshit wrapped in elephant turd.

30 gigs. 50 gigs. With overage fees up to a dollar for every gig you go over.....bububut your speed is fast! Who cares? It's like a small milkshake with a big straw and you are charged more when you finish.

Was the game just in your cart with the code applied to it or did you pass checkout? If you talk about the tsilon code, it expired yesterday so if it was just in your cart, it probably has been removed automatically!

How does it work when you pay with a gift card? I know that if I buy a 59.99$ game at EB Games with a 60$ card, I have nothing to pay. However, Futureshop and Best Buy calculate taxes first then remove the 60$ from the gift card so I need to pay 8$ or so of taxes. It is just at the discretion of the store? I am confused.

You're supposed to pay taxes when you use a gift card. I dunno what EB Games is doing; are you talking about their store credit? 'Cause that's different.

You'd either have to pay tax when you buy the gift card itself, or when you use the gift card, but there's not supposed to be any escaping tax outright. :p

So, just to follow up on my Deja Vu Discs experience, I was able to net in a little over $100 for a number of my Blu-ray discs. They didn't take some, since those either weren't in demand or they had plenty, but that's fine. Also sold them some games, which got me a little more than I was expecting. Collector's Editions were worth a bit more than a regular copy, as it should.

I tried Cash Converters for the rest of my Blu-rays, and they were offering a dollar a pop for each one. I didn't bother and kept my discs. The employee shoved my discs back to me and said to "sell it privately" for the amount I was looking for (similar to Deja Vu Discs - $4-6 per). The employee was pretty rude, but then again, it's Cash Converters. I didn't expect quality customer service in any case.

So, I'm pretty much set on selling any more games, movies, and CDs to Deja Vu Discs in the future if I need cash directly.

There are a number of ways to avoid sales taxes at EB Games. I found that if you put $60 towards a pre order they don't charge more when you pick the game up.

Ditto this. Upgraded from my original 3DS (as was getting annoyed with some things with it) and... Damn, those screen sizes are glorious. Also way better Start/Select/Home buttons.

yep, plus i love how the pen slides from the right hand side rather than next to the game cartridge, much more comfortable

Yeah, they do that here in Saskatoon too.

You also don't pay tax on the credit you get when you trade in a game toward something.

The store credit thing I can understand, kind of, since they still charge tax on the used games they sell; those goods are being taxed at some point. But exchanging what is essentially a tax-free coupon for cash has got to be breaking some law.

So, dropping $60.00 exactly waives the sales tax.

I don't think I've ever heard of that here in Toronto. I once said "I'll just pay for it now", and they charged me $68 ($59.99 + HST).

Maybe I'll give this a shot another time.

So, after being able to price match with Amazon.com for a good long time at Best Buy, I was finally stopped. I bought a Vita cradle and asked to price match Amazon. She looked at my phone and told me they only do Amazon.ca. It wasn't a big deal, since it wasn't such a huge gap in pricing.

I figured they'd only do Amazon.ca, but I wanted to push my luck and see. And I've been lucky for the longest time with that.

Shucks, lol.

Would anyone in here happen to know the best place to get a USB Y-cord for a Wii U external hard drive? I thought I would be able to pick one up at a reasonable price much more easily than what I've seen so far.

Newegg has cables at a decent price but $10 shipping kind of ruins that, and the cables at Futureshop are marked up—but I could at least get free shipping if I ordered with something else. On the other hand, Monoprice has really cheap cables, but they are also shipping from the US and there may be customs fees involved when they cross the border (?).

Shaw called me to bitch about downloading too much. (Blame PSN and blu-ray disc sized games!) The woman was a complete idiot. All she did was bitch. But they can't do anything. So I asked why she even bothered calling. It boiled down to me saying other companies have larger/faster plans and I could switch if that is what she would like me to do. I don't get calls from them anymore.
