Canadian Gaming Deals and Discussion Thread 4: That $70s Show

Just stumbled out of the yellow dog. We should do a Winnipeg meetup soon
There's basically no one from Winnipeg on GAF. I mean, I'm in Winnipeg but I'm only here because I'm saving for school and can't afford to live on my own. There's no reason to live in this shithole if you are financially independent. Literally one of the worst cities I've been in. I only ever see people from Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, or Montreal whenever I see people mention where they live.

This was a problem for me as well with TD. What you could do is change the expiry date on the card to something 3 years or so in the future.

Best Buy is giving me the same problem with the error when I try to look at the order online so your best bet is to go call them and get the info changed.
Still giving me the error, but is it alright to lie about the expiry date? Does it affect anything?

Just a quick heads up, Playstation Canada has some sort of social media contest coming up open to Canadians. I'll have more details by Tuesday and will probably make a thread which ill link here.

Playstation Canada is aware of this thread and eager to hear back from Canadian fans. I've already mentioned the 50 dollar price increase blows.

As a Canadian myself I pointed out this specific thread to them and asked to be kept in the loop on anything Canadian related that I can pass on.

Thanks for keeping an eye on the community here, feels good to be noticed :)
PSN prices increase is the most annoying and it makes it reay harder for people to go the digital route!
Waiting for your upcoming promo!

Quick question regarding the PSN/Eshop currency cards: I bought a bunch of them, should I enter them in my accounts as soon as possible, or is it okay to sit on them as long as I don't need the money? Could someone claim one of my codes using a keygen or something if I wait too long...?

I'm not sure I've ever heard of this happening. I've had Xbox Live point cards sitting around for ages (like more than a year) and inputted them with no problems. I also had two PS+ codes from Amazon.com that I'd been sitting on since last Black Friday, and finally entered one of them a month or two ago. Also fine.

PSN at the very least has a timeout for unsuccessful entries. If you enter in a bad code more than a few times, it'll lock you out from entering more codes for a period of time. I heard this from people doing PSN code giveaways on Twitter (Shane Bettenhausen, I think). So I think the potential for abuse on PSN is probably pretty low.

I think you should redeem them ASAP for the other factor: in case the cashier didn't actually activate it, and you need to test it out to make sure it's activated.

It's fine if you need it to preorder something and your card won't let you, but eventually you'll need to change the card close to ship date. I had to do that the last E3 sale.

I think you'll be fine if you have the receipt with matching codes. In the off chance it isn't activated you can contact Sony/Target.

Target @ Grant Park has the 3DS cards on for 25% off. About 10 of each of the cards $20 (15.00), $35 (26.25), and $50 (37.50).

Only a few PSN $20 cards left, and no $50's to be seen (I assume that RFD Winnipeg has already been here). Lots of PS+ cards though.

Edit: There are a few $50 Cards for PSN as well as additional 3DS cards by the New Video Game Releases section, not directly in the PlayStation section. Picked up a PS+ card and two $50 cards.

Fuck yes

I tried to do a price-match online for my previously purchased copy of Plants vs. Zombies at Best Buy. They told me the Walmart sale had limited quantities so they wouldn't price-match. Looks like I have to go to Best Buy.

Np! They knew about other Canadian centric gaming sub forums like the RFD video game sub forum for example but this thread is a little unique in that its a single thread with a large concentration of Canucks.

Don't go into the RFD thread, it's a wretched hive of scum and villainy (and ridiculous hoarding from people who don't even play games). Gaf is infinitely more reliable!

RFD isn't the place where you guys should be getting an idea about the Canadian gaming community though :)
Without calling names, they only concentrate on making money out of the gaming industry more than anything else!

Price matched PvZ at Future Shop in Guelph, $17.99 after the 10% difference. Just had to show that it was the flyer on my phone, as the online store price didn't change.

Also bought NHL 14 on PS3, because there's no way I'm wasting money on the train wreck that will be 15.

Just getting back from the Target at Toronto Stockyards. Plenty of $50 PSN cards, slightly fewer Nintendo eShop ones. Lower denominations available too, but in lower quantities. There's at least two places with cards in the store (one is a big pillar, the other is with each platform's games).

Now for the 45-minute trip home, sheesh!

Yeah the Stockyards was stocked up.

They are even advertised as 25% off, it isn't just a price error, crazy...

Great timing with the Nintendo Eshop sale.

Is anyone here going to be getting an XB1 w/ free copy of Destiny?

I'm really undecided right now. Any chance we'll be seeing some better deals later in the year? I was originally thinking about picking up the Sunset Overdrive bundle.

I kinda wish we had known about this deal sooner so that I could've picked up some of the launch games for cheap at Target last month. Even if I were to get the system now, i'm not sure if i'd wanna pick up any other games at full price.

Why can't I buy a ps4 by itself in Canada. Seriously ffs, sort your shit out Sony. The last of us bunduru is sold out everywhere in Saskatoon and the Destiny bunduru launches on Tuesday. So now I have to wait till Tuesday to buy a ps4. I don't even want a white ps4. This shit really grinds my gears.

Just came back from Target at Place Alexis-Nihon in Montreal. They had about a dozen $20 eShop cards at 25% off left. Higher denominations seemed to be sold out. They also had plenty of PSN (25%) and Xbox (10% for some reason) cards left.

Note: if you're after PSN cards, the sale isn't actually indicated on the cards in the video game aisle itself, but there are a bunch more cards in the section at one of the extremities of the aisle (like, perpendicular to it) with the sale price listed - it's a bit confusing.

The last of us bundle is technically the equivalant of the ps4 by itself so you'd have that problem whether the game came with console or not.

I can confirm that EB Games in Canada did not receive enough allocation of Ghost Editions to meet the preorder numbers they took. This is for both online and in store orders.

My store only received one and luckily I was first. I made them show it to me with my reciept and everything on it to make sure. Other stores have had staff remove their names from the list to have customers get theirs. If you're one of the unlucky folks make sure to ask if they went through and removed staff preorders as it's a mandate from head office to do so.

I would check in so you're not disappointed on the midnight launch. They did send extra Limited Editions for those Ghost Edition preorders they won't be able to fulfill.

.

Oh boy i'm gonna be right pissed if they say they dont have mine. I paid it all upfront and was first 2 do it but because of some mess up it put me back 2 forth with a promise theyd put me before anyone else.

Anyone know if with my platinum card(ebgames) I can just buy a regular copy of the game and return it opened for full price if my futureshop one comes.

I'm pretty sure they still have launch units on Amazon.ca but you want to buy a console in store if I'm reading you correctly.

EDIT: Just noticed Destiny Bundles are sold out on EB and Amazon Canada.

Hmmm I might check it out then. I'm still thinking about if I should check out either the Target in Thorncliffe Park (the one closest to me), the Stockyards location, or the Danforth location. I could use the eShop points to buy some 3DS games on top of the $10 credit thats sitting in my eShop wallet

EB screwed me with the Ghost Edition crap right after I cancelled my other copy from BB!

Anyone with an extra preorder willing to pass it over to me? :(

Got $200 worth of cards (2x $50 eShop and 2x $50 PSN) for $150. This deal combined with sales on these stores is pretty good. Have we ever had a discount this big on cash cards? I never got any, but I remember hearing MS points and Wii points would go on sale sometimes.

Looking to gift this deal to my GF's brother, seems like a pretty good deal to me from what I've seen.

Picked up 120 in Psn and 80 in eshop money.

Eshop charges taxes right? I may need to pick up another card if that's the case. Iirc psn doesn't?

Metrotown Target still has PSN cards as of an hour ago. Mostly $20's, but there's no difference in discount between them and the $50's. Good deal.

Winnipegers like you are part of the problem. Such a toxic, mostly unfounded negative attitude. Have some pride in your home. Sure the 'peg has some warts, but most cities do. There's plenty for reason to live here.
