Canadian Gaming Deals and Discussion Thread 5: Much Ado Aboot Shipping

Anyone have that 55" element 4k TV thats currently selling for 500 bucks at target? RFD had a Boxing Day thread that said it was actually 4k (I think 4k at 30hz and 120hz at 1080p). But perhaps someone could tell me which spec it is if they have it. Apparently it's a rebranded Seiki exclusive to target. YMMV

Canadian Gaming Deals and Discussion Thread 6: I Love the $80s

I think I AM actually paying Devil Survivor 2 3DS for $60 pretax.

It was listed as such back when Atlus announced it's localization, EB games did this weird last minute price drop to normalize the price, Ex: Ultimax was $70 and PQ was $55, both got chopped to $60 and $50 on release day.

Jesus.

So I received a delivery notice card today and apparently the package is from the Netherlands.

Any guesses as to what it could be? My new wife? Drugs? Porn?

I'm honestly thinking of documenting this and making a contest of it for some prize Canada GAF would like. I'll update with photos of the box or package tomorrow once I go collect it.

The suspense is killing me!

All three of those things.

Looking for recommendations on which of the not-NCIX online PC part vendors would be my best bet to use going forward. Price matching + not-garbage service are critical. Been burned twice in a row by NCIX after eight years of "pretty good" service and want to know who I should give my business to. It's looking like Canada Computers or w/e may be the way to go? I've been kind of underwhelmed by newegg in Canada. :/

Tiger Direct?

Tiger Direct seems like the way to go for non-Newegg or Ncix online stores.
Although I used to buy my PC parts online, a local store here has some great items for virtually the same price than online retailers. So you might want to check out local stores if possible in your area.

BTW. Just got my account activated! Glad to be here with all of you fellow canadians! I've been following this thread for a loooooong time! Sorry for my English, I am one of those "Quebeckers" #pleasedonthurtme

I now work with the guy that used to run the only local store I trusted. ;)

I'll probably have to see if anything new has sprung up in the last couple of years. Thanks for the suggestions, folks. :)

We are all here for the pillow deals.

On the other hand, there are a few OT Canadian threads. Those are interesting.

If not Canada Computers or NCIX (or its offshoots like DirectCanada), your options are pretty much Newegg (which I think are fine, though the prices are hit and miss but so's everything these days), Tigerdirect (meeeeeeeeeh, if you find something that's not a mail-in-rebate then cool) and Memory Express (great for price matches and decent-ish prices).

Honestly, at this point I'd buy from pretty much any of them, it all depends on who gives you the best price on the specific thing you want. I have no real loyalty to any one of them and all are decent to me. Even cutting out NCIX leaves you four good options, though only some will have brick-and-mortar locations near you if that's a priority.

Economists are predicting it'll go down to 0.75 pretty soon, I hate Saudi Arabia

i don't get this. it is canada's fault for relying too much on oil and gas commodity.

fuck, it will eventually go away because we are destroying our planet. because humans are so fucking greedy they wanna milk that shit up until we have no fish in the ocean and all the ice get melted.

if anything, we should instead invest in other areas like tech and science because we are so far behind the curve. most rich workers here are truck-driving dudes who don't know how to use computers.

Memory Express actually had better prices for the kit I bought (and NCIX matched), so I might take a look at them actually. There are no B&M stores for any of these vendors near me, unfortunately.

I went with NCIX because they were great to me from 2003-2011 (so, you know, brand loyalty) but I've had nothing but headaches since. The "go pound sand" response I got in 2012 re: a video card purchase was enough to turn me off but I foolishly went back for my new PC build.

Thanks again. :)

Is Amazon Canada not doing release day delivery anymore?

In the past I've pretty much had every major game I ordered there ship early so I get it release day, but I can't seem to find any game now that says its eligible for the option. Primarily worried about my The Order and Bloodborne preorders.

Edit: Nevermind, I see that Dying Light is release day eligible. I guess The Order and Bloodborne are just too far off to have been updated (Dying Light is out next week)

I think they artificially delay things now so that you will consider paying for Amazon Prime or paying for a higher rate of shipping.

I still get things the next day on already released items and once in a while on a newly released game.

I've heard others have had trouble with them purposely delaying any orders that have 'free shipping', as a way to encourage Prime. But the only order I've had issue with was Wave 2 Amiibo. They didn't ship on launch day, so I just went out and picked them up at retail. I'm in Toronto, so most orders make it on day of release, or day after, with shipments coming from Mississauga. I have my Majora's Mask 3DS coming from them, along with Amiibo Wave 3, so I'm a bit antsy myself.

I'm already a prime member, but that sounds really shitty of them.

For things that are made in Canada maybe, wouldn't stuff that we import be raised higher (i.e. games :( )
Yup pretty much. The Saudis are trying to bankrupt Canadian and Russian oil, so you can thank them for the brave new world of $79.99 games we will likely be entering before the year is out

I ordered a game a while ago from them I think it was Fairy Fencer F it it took like 1.5 week before they decided to ship it and that was because I sent email asking wtf was going .
They said they had a "problem" in the shipping system and they upgraded my order to next day shipping .

This may sound stupid, But why are we paying $69.99 for games made in Canada then?
I worked on a game (developed in Canada) that didn't get a 360 retail release for NA, so there's that. (EU and Japan did, LOL)

Regions means shit when it comes to cost. You don't get cheaper/more expensive games because of the region it's made in.

Yeah they need to physically print them discs here I guess.

Guys, what's going on with target? Is there a date when they're closed? Is everything on sale now?

I just have a $70 gift card so I need to use it quick I assume.

Will you honor gift cards?

Target Canada will continue to accept gift cards through the liquidation period. U.S. Target stores have never accepted Target Canada gift cards. That will not change.

I think what he means is that if you wait for liquidation, most of the good shit will be bought up almost immediately. So he might be stuck with $70 at a place that has nothing but garbage on the shelves.

I get that, but I've seen plenty of people say "better use it this second because they could stop honouring them at any moment."

Not sure whether that's what the OP meant but thought I'd offer that info.

Obviously there's a risk inherent in holding on to gift cards. When liquidation starts there will come a moment where everything but the worst merchandise disappears in a flash.

better use it now,you wont find anything in liquidation sales

the official last day for all stores is May 16th, but im pretty sure store by store it'll close much sooner, say some in March, some April etc

You should use it ASAP before it becomes worthless during the liquidation.

If I preorder Bloodborne from PSN today, could I potentially save my self some money if game prices raise before its release? or will they adjust to the new price regardless?
