I haven't played with my Switch very much but when I played off the TV, I went full detached. The joycon grip is still in its little foam bag, actually. I keep meaning to try it out just to see if it's better, but I don't have any particular issues with the detached format.

What a year and it's not even over yet, still that fall rush to come. GotY has to be Persona 5 and Nier Automata. I just cannot pick one over the other and I don't think anything can dethrone them this year except maybe South Park.

BOTW is just something else. I don't know, it goes in that greatest of all time for me with Persona 4G, Mario 64 as a couple of examples. Persona 5 could have done that but I didn't click with all the characters like I did P4G.
This is all one very high (Alaskan Thunder Fuck) dude's opinions though and so many games are still coming out.
Games of the year for me are Persona 5 and Breath of the Wild without contest.
We're just in the phase where people need to get it all out about how they hate x acclaimed game because *poorly described reasons*. The article lacked any sort of depth beyond the article being like "lol I didn't like the story, 5/10". A large part of this is people judging how much they liked Persona 5 against their rose-coloured memories of their mind being blown by P3/4 instead of judging it based on its own merits.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is still my GOTY, but Breath of the Wild is really close. I still have a ton left to do in the game, so there's a good chance that it will come through and take the top spot by the end of the year. Well, before October when some of my most anticipated titles of the year start dropping.
I haven't played Persona 5 yet. Need to find a cheap PS3 controller somewhere.

i was getting tired of my 500gb ps4 and how I had to delete and reinstall games every single time I wanted to plqay/replay any of them
and now I just literally installed every single game I own and STILL have lots ofspace left with a 2tb hard drive

Yea I got like 75 games installed on the Xbox with 1.2TB free on my 3TB Western Digital.
When the new Xbox releases I might just get an 8TB drive and I should be set.

I ended up buying one online. I'm driving over to Buffalo next weekend to pick it up in store. I reached out to TCL and I don't think they're planning on selling these in Canada.
Just wait 5-6yrs for what's in store for next gen Zelda with PS4 capable graphic!

It wasn't meant as a jab, I was just truly astonished, from a technical standpoint, the amount of detail in the world and all that. I still prefer games with more simplistic visuals over the hyper realistic ones, I think Horizon looks way too busy to my eyes when playing. I keep getting distracted by every little thing to the point where its a chore to play through. Its hard to identify things quickly when everything is so rich with detail, especially in motion at 30fps.
Uncharted 4 managed to do great graphics well, because due to the art style it didnt feel busy to look at. A more simplistic approach to design direction than Horizon.

I also pre-ordered Destiny, had a 5$ left over stuff from a promotion so i get it 20$ off with prime and that. Says to check two day shipping, but i dont have the option. Only standard, express and priority.
I've odered Nioh & horizon off amazon before, got them a day early, but this time it just I dont have the option for the 2 day shipping. Tracking even says it will ship on the 11th...3 days after release.

edit: NVM 2 day shipping only done if its shipped to my place. Post Canada is literally right next to my house, so i had it deliver there for security...but I guess to get a game a day early / release. Ill use my adress.

It went on sale on psn last month for around $65, I think? I told myself that was too much at the time, then I bought it last week at full price because I couldn't wait anymore. It's so good thus far and worth full price but I still wish I could have saved on it out of principle. I think all my new game purchases have been sub 50 dollars.

How was Get Even?
The only Switch games i've seen go on sale/deals (thus far, I could be remembering wrong) were due to glitches or E3, aside from all of two eShop deals, neither of which were Disgaea 5.

It doesn't feel right for me to be doing a GOTY list when there's still plenty more games to come and I have tons of games from the first half I'd love to go back to.
That said, it's BOTW. Odyssey and Splatoon 2 are the only things I can remotely see coming close.
Would be nice if we got a GOTY version of Horizon when Frozen Wilds comes out. They did that for Bloodborne (in PAL anyway) and that'd be the perfect chance for me to get it. My local library has a copy so I've put a hold on that and I'm looking forward to playing it.
