I don't understand the hate for Mulcair.. he was a nice guy.

Too bad he's no Jack Layton.
Yeah. I think it was a good, dignified speech too. I must be crazy.

Seems like he's not stepping down just yet. Suck it haters. :p

Hélène still winning in Laurier. Poirier back in 3rd place behind Duceppe.

Tom Mulcair has not indicated that he will leave the NDP yet. Maybe he thinks it's a pretty time to leave the ndp now.

I'm glad to see the Conservatives ousted. I hope they re-examine their stance on many, many topics and hopefully get rid of Harper. I won't be voting for them for a long time if they stick to this American Republican social platform.

How did NDP underachieve like this? What happened to the momentum they had?
This election wasn't about the failings of the NDP, even though they didn't run a good campaign. The election was about desperately looking for a replacement for Harper and the Conservatives, and the electorate figuring out that it was better to settle for the Liberals.

Pretty random, but it turns out that south surrey white rock has a libertarian party candidate running named... "Bonnie Hu". She managed 0.4% of the vote.

Her work experience includes "Candy Attendant" and "Cashier" at Fortune Work, both for two months at a time. I'm sure my partner who lives in White Rock sorely regrets throwing her vote away not supporting this up and coming political superstar.

I liked Mulcair's speech, I still feel bad for the NDP. Lots of good NDP candidates did not deserve to lose their ridings, but the Liberal momentum just took over.

Sucks that Dewar lost, even though Mckenna seems like she will be a good MP, I liked him in Parliament. I hope he will run again in the future.

This is some seriously impressive attempt at a damage control speech. And the switching between French and English, jeez.

It was the best part of his speech. Loved it.

I wish all canadians spoke both languages and we didn't need a translator. That would be the dream.

Muclair needs to take the L and resign. The NPD need to rebuild their party. I feel like the liberals won't do much in the next 4 years.

Ruth Ellen Brosseau might be too young to be the leader, but her complete dedication to the voters really makes me want to see her as the NDP leader

Vancouver South was one of the few blue districts inside city proper last time. Liberal currently leading by 568 votes.

Metro Vancouver looking pretty red now.

Does anyone find it ironic that the ndp won only 34-35 seats when they kept on printing on ads saying they only needed 35 seats to form government.

Niqab issue caused voters to flee the NDP in Quebec. Once that started, voters in Ontario began switching their allegiance from NDP to Liberal because it became apparent the NDP no longer had a chance of winning (over half of the NDP's seats were in Quebec). This happened in the rest of the country as well.

Perhaps without the Niqab issue, the NDP would have maintained 30 - 33% support and the Conservatives would've gotten a minority government.
