Jeez, the Quebec results are remarkable. The Liberals are vacuuming up seats -- they won Jean Chretien's old riding, Saint-Maurice-Champlain; he's got to be ecstatic at that.

Ruth Ellen Brosseau might be too young to be the leader, but her complete dedication to the voters really makes me want to see her as the NDP leader
She should definitely go for it. Nathan is our destiny though.

I loved Mulcair's speech. My mom, who votes Liberal without fail but doesn't really follow politics and doesn't know who Mulcair is, felt sorry for and empathized with him, so it must've been a good speech.

Wonder how Wayne Gretzky feels tonight

Lots of NDP people voted Liberal to get rid of Harper. Their sacrifice won't be forgotten.

I am one of those people, I guess. Ideology wise I think I align a lot better with NDP, but I just want Harper fucking gone and the reset button hit. The election after this one will be a lot more interesting

Looking forward to the voter turnout records, especially if there's anything on the youth vote.

Congrats Liberals!

Although my vote didn't even count. Doesn't matter what Liberals/NDP do or promise, most Albertans will vote Concervative till the day they die.

Anyone think any of the other candidates that ran for NDP leader back in 2012 would have done better?

Brian Topp
Nathan Cullen
Peggy Nash
Paul Dewar
Martin Singh
Niki Ashton

The only reason to keep him would be because they believe he has significant room for growth, and that the next CPC leader will be so unpopular that the NDP will be able to overtake them as Opposition. I'm skeptical, but you never know. It took Layton time to find his feet...though he at least showed growth.
What growth? They lost Quebec, the labour movement in Ontario is going to be gutted as even more CAW jobs are lost when TPP comes into effect. Clearly they have no base in Atlantic Canada. It's a dead party.

I was planning to vote NDP to get rid of Harper.

Lots of people were planning to vote NDP to get rid of Harper. It was around the time of the Liberal's supporting Bill C-51 that NDP were being propped to be the strategic vote. Something happened to the NDP along the way.

C51 was the NDP being Anti-Harper. Deficit talk is what allowed the Anti-Harper vote to get muddled and when the niqab issue weakened the NDP's poll numbers the entirety of the Anti-Harper vote went Liberal. The entirety.

What is this Niqab issue?

Harper says new Canadians should not be able to get sworn in wearing a Niqab. The issue has gone to the Supreme Court twice who ruled against the Conservatives. Harper says they will keep the issue open in the future. Mulcair says you should be able to wear whatever you want. Canadians across the country are largely in favour of prohibiting Niqabs at such ceremonies, and Quebecois in particular are against the Niqab.
