So who becomes the interim leader?

Cabinet members who got re-elected and have any public presence at all:
Nicholson
Ambrose
Finley
Clement
Van Loan <-- IMHO, best neutral caretaker choice if you think the next leader will come from outside parliament
Kenney <-- I would say the odds-on frontrunner for next leader if you think they'll come from within parliament
Raitt
Poilievre <-- This might be the first time that a human personification of the turd emoji is a party leader
Blaney
Bernier

I am so glad all three of the parties supporters clapped when mentioning either Justin or Harper. Reminds me that no matter what team we root for during elections, we are all Canadians.

According to people who think like this post, they should never have had this chance in the first place.
I didn't believe until 2008, to be honest. I started off as a Jack supporter because of Toronto politics and the desire to have change in my local riding because of the gay marriage issue back in the day.

But look at the gap between Broadbent and Layton. That was what? 20-25 years?

I'll be in my 50s or 60s then next time the NDP will matter again.

Lol, you're the balls maybe? All us ndp supporters just tossed on the ground
Tossed to the ground with nowhere to go. lol

Wanted Harper and the Conservatives to win again.

Feeling pretty down tonight.

Congrats to Trudeau however, please don't let us down.
Thank goodness I locked in my mortgage for 5 yrs last month.

Ambrose, Clement, Kenney, Raitt, Poilievre and Bernier may all be considering leadership runs, so it wouldn't be any of them. Van Loan or Finley seem like the most likely choices.

Ughhh, having to hear him say nice things about Harper is making me sick. Mulcair's speech wins based on that alone lol.

There were a LOT of conservatives that hate Harper and voted liberal because of it I'd assume, he doesn't wanna lose those votes.

What really baffles me is seeing all that blue in the prairies. This is how they thank Tommy Douglas for medicare?
most of them probably aren't even aware the NDP is responsible for it. it's something that needs to be hammered back into the minds of voters

Who were they listening to when they supported C-51? :/

I'm fine with all three speeches tonight, tbh. I find it hilarious that Harper used a stump speech.

With 164 of 236 polls in, the Liberals have a 2500 vote lead in Kelowna-Lake Country, way the hell into the BC interior. Wow.

If your assumption is that they want to pick an interim leader who has no skin in the game, sure. Some parties do that, some don't. I'll admit that in Canada the most recent tendency has been to do that. I don't really have a read on how energetic the base would be for a new leader. You could have post-Martin or especially post-Dion thing where all the obvious choices pass on the leadership and we get down into the also-rans. I suspect it won't be that bad, but still.

Considering my Facebook friends and general media spamming a nonstop anti Harper flood over the last long while I'm completely shocked at the 102 Conservative seats there are.

The NDP are currently 3 seats higher than 2008. At least they will still end up with the second highest seat count ever in their history. I hope they work hard for the next election and try to get some of the seats they lost back in the future.
