Capcom makes the good Zelda games.

I still think Link's Awakening is the best Zelda game, and was the first title to expand on Zelda's game play with additions like the Roc's feather and the horizontal "Mario" cave/swimming areas, and had some of the best dungeon layouts in the series. It took the Link To The Past formula and expanded upon it; LttP only one-ups in its graphics and music for obvious reasons.

Only on GAF can wonderful games on Nintendo consoles turn into a Nintendo bashfest. I'm loving RE4 and consider it the best game on the cube (perhaps of this generation), and haven't delved too deeply into MC yet but am liking what I've seen from it so far. I have derived enjoyment from all of the Nintendo games I have purchased this generation, no matter the console. I firmly believe that the past year with the steady flow of quality titles and the launch of DS, along with the upcoming lineup for this year, is Nintendo's finest hour. Sorry guys.... had to counteract all of the Nintendo hate in this thread... carry on!

So the 3D Zelda games aren't good now? I guess if you keep asserting bullshit until people are tired of arguing with you it becomes the truth.

So it'll only get worse from next year and on, then? :P

I liked Zelda games when the series was still relatively new. Now they seem to be outdated and loved for the nostalgia. Lack of voice acting, simple storyline, and staying in the 3 foot deep section of the pool in terms of depth in comparison to the competition have pushed me away from the series. I'm interested in the newest Zelda coming, but if it's the same game with new graphics then I'll just give it a rent. I thought Beyond Good & Evil was a much better game than Wind Waker this gen for example.

I declare straw man. I never that said the 3D Zelda games are not good. Majora's Mask is absolutely fantastic. However, the problem with Wind Waker is that unlike Majora's Mask, it doesn't do anything to alter the Zelda formula. As drohne pointed out earlier, Nintendo has fallen behind in current areas of successful game design, especially in regards to combat.

I like the Wind Waker, but I want something fresh and new. It is a good game, but it isn't THAT good.

And the "hive" remark was a playful joke, nothing more. Calm down.

Why do you need voice acting and a story for depth? Zelda games are very deep without them.

Many of the voice acted games today are terrible and of the campy B-movie type.
As for Storyline, there are many games that are great without the need for a deep storyline. All the FPS shooters are fairly straightforward and again, the script is of the B-movie calibre.

Part of the appeal of the Action-Adventure Genre, is its simplicity and Zelda has always been more about the mood, the atmosphere and the Indiana jones-esque puzzle solving than about a deep intricate stories, which works just fine.

Link for next Marvel vs Capcom game!
Kidding aside, Capcom should make Nintendo Vs Capcom for DS using the MVC engine. The platform's almost perfect for it with the vertical screens, 2D horsepower, high capacity media and 4 face buttons. :)

Oracles and Minish Cap spank every other 2D Zelda made (besides Link's Awakening), and I prefer 'em to the 3D ones as well. Nintendo's just kinda, y'know, LOST IT (after Majora's Mask).
Fixed. :)

I think WW added a lot to the 3D Zelda formula, the timed attacks, the new weapons, the use of enemy weapons, and the astounding animation make WW seem very fresh to me. While it’s not a total upheaval, I don’t think it’s fair to expect Nintendo to reinvent the wheel with every new Zelda game. Especially when most of us don’t hold other companies to this standard. My problem with WW was it’s length and difficulty, I found the game play mechanics to be superb. I have the game saved at that part where have to clear the palace, I must have played through that part 100 times because it’s just that fun. So even though the game is kind of short and easy, it’s still one of my favorite experiences of this generation (and I’m one of those strange Nintendo fans that actually play games made by other developers.)

I'm with you there actually drohne. A more hectic, dizzying approach to Zelda could be exactly the sort of thing this franchise could use.

I predict QTE, just like in RE4, in the new Zelda. Also, I wouldn't mind hectic combats where you're facing 10 enemies, but have the speed of swordplace faster now. Something along the lines of NG.

Okay, I've played about a total of 7 hours of TMC so far. I've gone through three dungeons, about to enter the fourth. I've also gone and done a lot of the kinstone stuff which is okay (better than the rings in Oracles).

+Awesome graphics
+Great music
+Nice new puzzles
-Short dungeons
-less than average boss battles
-Too much running around (just the librarian quest really, but it got on my nerves)

As far as level design goes, EAD proves they still trump Capcom with FSA (and LADX). That game was restricted by connectivity, and was still fun and well designed. There's some minor things in TMC that irk me, like the figurine thing takes too long (lottery in SSBM would have worked 10x better).

Overall, I'd say TMC is better than FSA so far- just because the single player doesn't, you know, suck. It's been fun, but I can't see this being a Zelda I'll go through again (but still a very good game). It still might pick up, but I have a feeling if Capcom tries harder, they'll pull off an excellent 2D Zelda some day.

As for the next Zelda, I hope it expands on what TWW started with the storytelling, and get into some good new weapons/areas/types of gameplay. I have a few new ideas in my head, but I doubt they'll come to be unless I developed the game myself.

It's not bullshit when it's just someone's opinion. :P

I don't know about everyone else, but I was never a big fan of the 3D Zelda games. Just could not get into them as much as I did the 2D games. Wind Waker started off great, but was brought down a lot by the sailing sequences IMO.

I am definitely looking forward to the newest GC Zelda...looks good to me so far.

If that's what you think, Zelda isn't the ONLY franchise in need for a RE4 make over. Several big xbox and ps2 titles would benefit for that as well.

I was only half kidding. MvC2 dissapointed me in that SO many new characters were complete unknowns. Marrow? SonSon? Who are these people? At the same time, there are tons of leftover Marvel and Capcom charcters they didn't bother put in. And two Wolverines, that's just laziness.

But stick in some Nintendo characters and it could really rock. Actual fighting game style, not "knock out of the stage" SSB style.

What the heck you talking about? The official RE4 is a huge lovefest and so is the official Minish Cap thread for the most part. MAF threads turning into flamefests are normal no matter the topic at hand.

I knew who Marrow and Son Son were. :P

But yeah, I'd have liked to see Nightcrawler make it into a Capcom fighter.

Yep... it'd be a nice alternative to Nintendo Smash Bros. Gigantic seller for Capcom too I imagine.

From XMen, but that's about it. I don't read comics, so if it wasn't in the TV cartoon or movies, I don't know.

Who's SonSon? I thought it was from Breath of Fire 2, but I got Katt and Stan mixed in my brain.

Also, Amingo, Ruby chick, Hayero guy with the sword... no clue.

I don't know much about Marrow, either. The only X-Men comic I ever read with her had her as an ugly-looking morlock villain, not the way she looks in MvC2.

SonSon is a Capcom character from an old arcade game, called "Son Son." :) I don't know if the character was originally female, however. This is Capcom's version of the Monkey King, Son Goku. (the same character that Son Goku from Dragonball is based off of, from the story "Journey To The West.")

Hayato is the main "Ryu" character from Star Gladiator and Plasma Sword.

Amingo and Ruby Heart are brand new characters created by Capcom.
