Cartoons that scared you as a kid

Which cartoons scared you as a kid? I watched Extreme Ghostbusters a lot and it had many scary episodes. I'm still suprised that they were allowed to make it. The episode Deadliners was scary:

I still watched it often. Other scary episodes were Home is Where the Horror Is and Fear Itself.

not truly scared but it was so creepy as hell.

I've spoken to and exchanged letters with the creator of Courage the Cowardly Dog a few years ago (John R. Dilworth). He gave me a list of voices he contributed in certain episodes...that was his voice in that episode. Pretty cool guy and he's still working on a couple projects out of his home animation studio in NYC right now. The last I talked to him, he doesn't go out that much as COVID-19 has New Yorkers pretty freaked out and seems to enjoy working at home anyway. Nearly all of the ground-up production and early animation drafts of Courage were made with in New York, too.

Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids.

It was shown in the UK in the early 2000's as I was growing up, such a good show. Creepy as hell for a kids show, and really dark in some episodes. Despite that, it had some great humour that is still appealing even for an adult watcher. I would highly recommend it, if you can find it anywhere. I'm pretty sure there is some episodes on YouTube.

Expected a Watership Down thread.

I didn't even see the whole movie, but that scene with the rabbits suffocating underground still haunts me even if my memory of it is so faint after so many years.
Came to say watership down. The film is rated U yet it contains a seagull that tells the rabbits to piss off and a death count that rivals The Expendables, but with more blood.

Cartoons never scared me. I enjoyed anything dark and twisted. The only two times I can remember having been scared to the point of lying awake that night, was after watching Lonesome Dove and 1. Seeing a bunch of guys getting lynched, and 2. Seeing a guy get a spear through his chest. Those things lingered.

But I feel completely in love with that show. Must have been 7-9 or something.

I wouldn't say it was scary but Courage the Cowardly Dog was so weird and unenjoyable.

I also hated cartoons with ugly art styles and creepy looking characters like Ed, Edd and Eddy, The Cramp Twins, Mike, Lu & Og, Fat Dog Mendoza and Ned's Newt.

holy shit and here I thought I was all alone thinking I am the only one who used to get scared watching Extreme Ghostbusters. Such a damn good series. Even the one where they all effed up by this weird looking man eater type creature who needs them to solve the riddle, that was scary too. Oh oh there was this one episode where they need to go inside the Chamber thing which houses all captured spirits and demons to save some of them who are trapped. That was scary too.

Its one of my favorites too. The series was my first introduction to Ghostbusters. The movies are great but I remember being disappointed that they weren't as scary as the cartoon. The Pied Piper of Manhattan was also a great episode.

The credits were also creepy:

We always had a couple of Disney films translated to a graphic novel.
One of them was The Great Mouse Detective and I never seen the film before, which to this date I still have.
I couldn’t go past one page because of the freaky bat.
There was one drawing in which he looked just way to fucking scary.

Couldn’t find the drawing but the bat is still creepy

It's very good, used to wait every year at Christmas for it to be played. Most times it wasn't.

Looking back on it though, bloody hell.

We had two bunnies, one died in it's sleep and the other had it's head decapitated by a fox. Who then hid it in our hedge.

I was so small when it happened but had to keep a brave face for my younger sister.

Awesome film though, worth watching but certainly not for kids these days. It's brutal.

The secret of Nymm was scary when I was young.
Yeah definitely. I remember being especially afraind of the scene where you see the rats stealing electricity in the night, while the farmer was on the phone with the Nimh labs saying he didn't notice anything special. Of course there was also the Great Owl entrance, or the kids drowning in their house...

I love Fantasia. Both. Never thought it was terrifying as a kid.

I watched IT as a kid (like 6 years old) and Aliens. That was terrifying

The Pleasure Island scene in Pinocchio, especially the kids being turned into donkeys.

And although it's the live action part of a cartoon, this part in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show where Luigi becomes POSSESSED by a ghost scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid:

I actually have a very distinct and clear memory of running out of our living room and into my bedroom every time it would come on (I watched these VHS tapes religiously) and one time my mom and brother laughed at me for being so scared. So then I forced myself to come out and watch it and I realized it was actually pretty stupid and not scary at all.

That's like Hellraiser 2 in cartoon form.
