Castle of Illusion HD starring Mickey Mouse |OT| Once upon a mouse

I recommend anyone who bought it on PSN play the original version(i know it came with preorders don't know about at release) or watch some videos of going from the Genesis version to this version

It's jarring. It's so awesome to see some of the exact same spots in a much more detailed way.

It boggles my mind that Ducktales and this game both are fantastic yet get trashed by reviewers for being too short and difficult for them, it makes me happy to be on this site and see how much people enjoy these great games. Guess a reviewer can't be bothered to play through a level again because 99% of the games they play don't have any difficulty.

It's too bad about Sega Australia, hopefully the guys who worked on this game had a new job lined up for its closure.

I got grudge sucked!
I didn't realize there was a preorder bonus to get the Genesis version. I just figured it unlocked if you beat the remake. That sucks.

Ther than that, the jump is a bit off and I'm tired of Sully but its a good remake. The length may not justify the price but its still well done.

In world two so far. Game is good, but Kirkhope's music is amazing.

How much is really Kirkhope and how much is just the original? Most of what I've heard in previews is straight from the original game. The most identical I heard was the spider forest theme.

I can't understand considering this game too hard, bosses could be a little tricky and some jumps were a challenge, but not really out of line, even Ducktales I could understand though that was mainly about learning patterns.

... And admittedly I wouldn't have wanted JUST this for $15, but this and the original? That's about 4 hours of pretty fun platforming that doesn't overstay its welcome, so good enough.

Unfortunately not many places to go.

Not sure how I feel about the length or lack thereof. I kind of prefer games that burn short and brightly these days...but not at this particular time of year. Will probably wait.

tried the demo and was almost bored to sleep. it looks pretty half-assed, like a generic platformer. and mickey always has this creepy grin on his face. not to mention what i think is noticeable input lag..

Really loved this a lot. Thought the controls were fine and really liked the narrator. This is totally what a remake should be. It's even more evident having just played the original but they totally nailed it with this.

But yeah that little walk that Mickey does is probably my new favorite thing.

We've pretty much spread with the 5 winds, a fair few had to leave the country as they were on visas, some have landed on their feet at other studios either local or overseas.

Myself and 4 others started our own studio to make Satellite Reign

Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear that your new studio was able to get a project successfully funded. I wish you the best. It amazes me that the team you were part of was able to work so hard and do such a great job, knowing that their job would be gone in the near future. It must be tremendously hard to keep morale and motivation going at that point.

At the end of the day we all have our best interest in making the game as good as possible. We're only as good as the work we've done on previous games.

Just beat the game. A-MAZ-ING. I still cannot get over how well this and Ducktales came out.... Now I need MOAR!!! Rescue Rangers and Darkwing now pls.

This game is absolutely brilliant. I beat the first three levels and I can't wait to play more.

Also, hearing Sully is making me need another Uncharted in my life.

I've gotten the first three gems so far and like the game a lot. I was worried after I played the free Genesis version, as I didn't love that. However, this thing is pretty good and fun. I don't quite like it as much as Ducktales but it's still damn good. This game getting low scores on reviews makes me hate modern gaming philosophies a lot.

Game is soooooo gooooood... I can't believe how well this turned out. This is hands down better than Ducktales Remastered IMHO, and is easily one of the best retro remakes I've ever played. It captures the charm and childlike wonder of the original game perfectly, yet updates it for a new generation at the same time. If review scores are low, then those reviewers must have been sleep-deprived or heavily medicated or something, because this is seriously damn near perfect. As a child, the Genesis game really captured my imagination, and I think if I were a child playing this game today, it would capture my imagination in precisely the same way.

I hear some people complaining about the framerate. Are these problem on PS3/360?
Yes, they're on PS3 from personal experience and have been reported on 360. Game usually runs at a solid 30 FPS, but sometimes it dips down significantly. I don't think it gets unplayable, but if you have a good computer and want a solid 60 FPS you'd best wait on Steam, especially with the pre-order angle on PS3 no longer existing.

This game is absolutely superb. Mickey feels more lightweight when compared to the 16-bit game, but having compared them back to back (as I had it pre ordered on PSN) the differences aren't that big. Hitboxes and timing seem to be about the same. Difference is that in the remake you don't have to press jump a second time to defeat enemies.

The level design is fucking glorious. And its rather faithful to the original game too, its just that some things were mixed about a small bit (such as the spider area that appears as a bonus sub area of the first stage, its not required to beat but it holds an unlockable). The first boss has been slightly altered too, he has some new attacks. The difficulty might be higher than before, I don't know. It doesn't seem to be a cakewalk.

I was worried about the changes at first, but seeing the more faithful Ducktales HD remake I'm glad CoI HD was mixed up and expanded as its a much better game than Ducktales HD.

I think this game must be especially glorious on PC, with higher resolution and 60fps.

Thx for the info, I am happier than ever before that I backed SR.

Has a WiiU version of CoI ever been considered?

There's a little framerate jerkiness in the later stages on PS3 (particularly the clock tower), but it's smooth as butter for most of the game.

The biggest issues I've run into are a few occasions where the narrator gets cut off, some voice/music balancing issues during the ending, and the inability to skip boss intro cutscenes (again, mostly just the final boss, since I died to her a good 7 or 8 times and had to go through the entire intro sequence every single time I restarted the fight).

Also, if you die and restart at a checkpoint, any collectibles you found prior to that checkpoint seem to get reset, so if you want to unlock everything, you pretty much have to beat each stage on one life.

These are all pretty minor complaints, though, in an otherwise amazing game. I had no control issues, I didn't feel like the game was too hard, and really... I enjoyed just about every minute of it!

I have it on PS3 (as well the pre order mega drive version) and don't like the control set up as it is too easy to miss jumps, Is it out on 360 (UK) yet, I have looked but can't find it (11:40 am UK time)

I want to play and compare both 360 and PS3

This one's particularly annoying because the intro movies have this giant O TO SKIP thing that never goes away, then the scenes you WOULD want to skip most can't be. The hell? Basically went and did two of the things I most disliked, it's good to know I can skip a cutscene but I don't need that broadcast through the WHOLE THING.

This dev got shut down before the game came out? That's awful. The game itself is really quite wonderful. I played the first two worlds last night and really enjoyed it (never played the original).

Played through the first world last night, and I quite liked it, besides the jumping not feeling as tight as it did in the original. Looking forward to the rest of the game.

Just played the original for the first time in god knows how many years. Jesus christ! It's astonishing how well the game holds up. I had a bit of a fear that the game may have aged after all these years. It hasn't. The original alone was worth the tenner, never mind the remake. Good controls, fantastic level design and the game still oozes charm. And dat music. I'm wowed all over again. I expected it to have at least aged a little bit. So fun.

Haven't played much of the remake yet. Beat the first boss but that's it. Pretty good so far.

EDIT: Haha, seems like it only downloaded the DirectX redistributables.

I thought it was suspicious when the download was only 115Mb.
