Love to hear the anti-cat contingent.

Why doesn't this animal immediately love and worship me? Must be evil.
Yeah okay. Call me when cats can do this, this, or this.

I don't like them because they aren't pack/herd animals, and the only major purpose they serve is pest control. Which is great and all, but as companions? So fucking boring.

I think you might have the narcissism blame backwards.

and it's obvious you've never been in a multiple dog household before. of course I suppose it's better dog owners grace us with their dogs' majestic turds left on the street. that's so much better.

Pretty much. Even one dog can make a house fucking reek, especially if the owners don't bathe the dog regularly. And dirty dog smell sticks. To everything. Every-fucking-thing. Go to your boy's house and the dog jumps on you? You're gonna fucking stink like dirty dog all night long now.

Well I find it pathetic that people need some slobbering idiot to follow them around all the time so that they feel a sense of companionship. But, to each his own :p

"Slobbering idiot"

lol

Watch that first video.
And? You implied my house smelled, I said it didn't and you still tried to claim otherwise. This goes for most pet owners though and dog smell is worse then any smell a cat can create.
Sorry, I meant good job literally, not sarcastically.

*edit*

Also, there is no worse smell than feline urine. Actually, late-winter/eary-spring horse hoof is worse, but cat piss is a damn close second.

If your pet smells bad it's probably the food it eats or something is wrong with it health-wise. Or it's just dirty and needs a bath.

I don't know why people gotta argue which smells the least. It's still poop and pee. Just clean often and it won't be a problem. lol

You and I both know that's not how most dogs are. Most dogs are raised by lazy ass people who would be better served by a cat, who don't provide their dog with enough activity and then yell at it for being too rowdy. I've never seen a news story about a fatal cat attack, I have seen stories about fatal dog attacks. Dog owners seem to have some pathetic codependent need, which dogs readily reciprocate, while cats and their owners live independent lives and interact when it is to the liking of both parties.

Dogs are bums and cats rule, suck on that DogGAF

Correlation does not equal causation.
...but they described a causal relationship.

I remember talk about this kind of thing with respect to vets, who are more exposed to this. Supposedly the effects are subtle in their onset and it's only through treatment does the difference from norm become pronounced.

This isn't exactly news. Not quite sure why Popular Science is bringing it up now.

well the thing is more science related organizations tend to "recycle" news because stuff that's common knowledge to some is brand new info to many people. remember, we still have young people and news that you have heard before has to be repeated for their sake.

That's why non cat pets are better.

reptilian pets, turtles in particular, are rife with salmonella

No, I have people come over all the time and I always ask to make sure because I know that I couldn't possibly smell it. Even my friend that has allergies can come over with no problem. I've lived with cats most of my life, so it's become a routine to keep my house really clean. I even have a black light I use to make sure there aren't any urine stains in case my cats had an accident. I know what you mean though and that's true of most pet owners.

So at what point do you think to yourself, "I should get a black light and search my house for errant cat piss"?

That's cool, animals exist to serve you and entertain you. I love dogs, but cats are incredible companions if you can appreciate animals beyond the service/entertainment role.

1) I have dogs, and horses.

2) False dichotomy.

Good fucking job. You have to be .1% of the cat owner population though.

1. then remind me never to visit your place because you must smell worse than a sewer.
2. you are an angry little man aren't you?

willing to bet my gaming rig that your dogsd can't either, what's your point?
as to the rest.. you obviously never owned a cat so you aren't qualified to rate them on their companionship. guess what, like dogs, they all have different personalities. shame to see a member of PC-GAF be so ignorant and angry at what is a pretty innnocent topic.

Read above, I was being sincere with my "good fucking job". Like, *high five* good fucking job.

Getting kind of personal, aren't you?

And, yeah, my dog is a border collie who's been trained to herd cattle. She also cuddles up with my wife's cat, and shares her dinner with her. They've even hunted together.

That resulted in the death of a chipmunk.

gg your entire post. Gimmie dat rig son.

Growing up in my moms house, she threatened to give our cats away if we didn't clean up after them, so learned that you can see the cat piss with a black light and I've used one ever since, I mostly use it around their cat litter to make sure they don't track any on the floor. Works pretty well.

My brother's cat ate her kittens. This is kind of minuscule compared to seeing her cute little face covered in the blood of her own kittens.

and yet you go denigrating cats. you also go on assuming that people who own cats can never clean up or not make their home smell when it's an issue of lousy owners. i'll keep my rig you keep your attitude.

Right up until it gives you one good bite. Then after some stitches and antibiotics, purrs and cuteness only seem like a mask for a vile, cruel creature that only sees you as a captor deserving nothing more than pain amd suffering.

Fuck cats.

I have never been bitten by a cat. :3

Good pro tip there. Our cat rarely ever has accidents, but did have a urinary tract infection from eating too much wildlife. I'll be picking one up on the way home tonight. Your post earlier already convinced me of this.

While true, dogs have never, ever, ever, ever made a mess in the house. Cats are very well known to randomly decide to not use their litter box, even when kept pristine. I've seen this first hand. Good owners or not, cats sometimes decide to pee on stuff. Especially when they get older.

So, it's like this. If the owners are great at taking care of their animals, training them, and cleaning up after them, cats will still pee on stuff. Dogs won't.

If the owners suck, the dog, cat, house, everything smells. Definitely.

And attitude had nothing to do with your bet. I'll PM you my address for the PC Shipment.

Hmm... correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that this is an ecological time-series study. In this case, it's not possible to identify a causal relationship between cat bites and depression (id est., you can't tell if the bites are causing depression or if depressed people are more likely to be bitten - because of their condition).

So, this (from the first link):
It's far from clear what explains the link. Regardless, the scientists wrote that it may make sense to screen cat-bite victims for depression, especially women.
May be an ecological fallacy.

So many generalities. I love cats and dogs but only have a cat right now. My cat is very affectionate to the point where it's almost annoying because she wants to be near me/on my lap all the time. Not all cats are standoffish and evil. The only downside is I can't take her for walks. :(

They can get UTIs from having too much litter in their box too, sometimes when they squat to go pee they'll touch the litter and that's how they get infected. My friends cat suffers from this because she's so short. Just make sure the room is completely dark because the stains might be so small they are hard to see.

Utter bullshit. I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt but this post is completely ridiculous.

Is there a cure/treatment for this taxoplasmosis thing?

No, parasites in general are usually infamously difficult to get rid of. I think these can exist as cysts for quite a while in brain tissue and stuff before flaring up again. I think thyme is supposed to be good for keeping them dormant or something, but it`s speculative.

edit: hm, I guess I'm wrong.
