CBS News: Paul Horner, writer of fake news about 2016 election, found dead

RIP. I can't hate the man or rejoice at this. At the end of the day 100% of the blame goes to people who voted for Trump.

Unfortunately this is going to go conspiracy viral. Obama and Hillary Lvl 3 Shin Akuma'd this guy will be Rush Limbaugh talking point.

That Washington Post interview with him is pretty interesting:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2016/11/17/facebook-fake-news-writer-i-think-donald-trump-is-in-the-white-house-because-of-me/?utm_term=.6c58a3c44485

Seems like he was just really naive and thought he was doing satire while trumpers actually spread his stories

On the other hand...

... for a misunderstood satirist he profited pretty heavily from all this

So he wasn't even down with the cause. He just, like Trump, recognized how stupid the average American conservative on the internet was and exploited it for personal gain. Wow.

We really need to kill Facebook.

I used to trail around after this guy's nonsense, particularly during his "National Report" period, quietly letting people know they'd been led astray. This is an awkward task, especially because most of those being misled by Mr Horner hold political views I find abhorrent. I felt it was important, though.

At one point, Google searches would find articles describing Mr Horner as winner of a prize for the largest human penis, a man who married his own dog at the Presidio in San Francisco, a former Secret Service agent who said First Lady Michelle Obama was a man, an atheist teacher who suspended a child for wishing him Merry Christmas, and many other fictional stories.

I haven't fact checked the reports of his death, and part of me hopes it's yet another of his jokes.

I actually knew a guy who believed all that "Hillary Clinton has had dozens of people killed" conspiracy theory.

Dude also believes in Chem trails and shit like that, so there's really no helping him.
Anthony Weiner would have been found dead eons ago if that one was true!

Isn't this the guy who was trolling the right by making ridiculous fake news and then when they bought it like the dumbfucks they are, he started making major money and decided to roll with it.

I cant lie, I'm liberal as fuck but if I was a making ten grand a month writing shitty fake news that probably requires five minutes of effort...it would be hard to stop.

Didn't this guy only start claiming to be a satirist when reporters started to track him down? I figured his claim of being a satirist was a defense against possible libel claims.

Man... You know Hannity is going to run with this.

It must be nice for the Russians to have a home made propaganda wing. They don't even have to try!

Yes, if this is the same dude NPR tracked down, he hid his bullshit fake news sites behind a bunch of shell companies and then when the media tracked him down he was extremely reluctant to come clean at first. He wasn't some internet satirist. He was a cynical moneymaker that didn't give a fuck about politics.
