Once the only network staying out of the whole new massive comic book TV show arena, CBS is going all in with a new Supergirl show - which they've given an official series commitment to, bypassing both the "in development" and "pilot" stage.

Supergirl, a new one hour drama, will come to us from Berlanti Productions (both Arrow and The Flash on The CW) in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler (Chuck, No Ordinary Family) will serve as writers, while also serving as EPs alongside Sarah Schechter.

Jeez...there seems to be barely any networks left that don't have some DC aaptation in the making. Awesome.

Jeez so many DC comic Book shows coming to TV. We got Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, IZombie,Constantine. And still more coming like Teen Titans on TNT, Lucifer on Fox,.. I can't think of any others.

Barring any cancellation of Gotham or Constantine (which is most likely), I believe every major network would have a DC Comics Show on in the Fall of 2015... sans ABC for obvious reasons.

There's also:
Preacher (AMC)
Scalped (WGN)
DMZ (SyFy)
Ronin (SyFy)

Powergirl cameo or bust.

Lord jesus please

I can see Supergirl connecting with Flash & Arrow. Or at least them nodding & winking at it if they dont' have permission to overtly cross the network streams.

Berlanti showrunning makes me feel a little steadier about quality of adaptation. So I'm free to now start worrying about the two things everyone immediately starts tripping over when a superhero adaptation is mentioned.

1) Who do they cast
2) what does the costume look like.

Gotta' be honest: I'm sick of all of these superhero shows and movies.

Gotham looks to be the only potentially interesting one. I'll give it a shot, but don't expect a ton from it.

Agents of Shield had an awful debut, and I stopped watching it.

Since it's made by the same production company, will it be a part of the Arrowverse?

That would be amazing, but I doubt it because different networks and all. Makes crossovers almost impossible.

Edit- didn't know CBS owned part of CW. Whoops.

Arrow's damn good. Entertaining show in general, not just "for a superhero show".

Gotham, is like the one I'm not interested in... I can't stand super hero shows without the superheroes. Agents of Shield, Gotham, Agent Carter... WHY

It's possible since CBS does own half of the CW.

Holy guacamole.

I mean, with a Supergirl TV show you HAVE to reference Superman right? Is this our chance to link the DCCU and Arrowverse together!? I know there have been some inconsistencies, but it would be incredible.

Those are all DC?

Man, while Marvel has been cranking it up in the movies DC has been secretly dominating the small screen

Yep. DC has a large library of excellent IPs that aren't part of their superhero universe, which is why they could move into TV so agressively.

Actually it's quite similiar in movies in a way that there have been plenty of movies based on DC properties that most people don't associate with the brand, like Constantine, V for Vendetta, Road to Perdition, Jonah Hex, Watchmen, Red 1-2, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Loosers.

Wait, Constantine cancellation is likely?

Oh what the fuck. I'm all for a Scalped adaptation, but on WGN? Their programming is a steady stream of straight-to-video 80s movies and Monk reruns.

The hope could be sort of a Hannibal/NBC thing. It absolutely shouldn't work, and it doesn't make sense, but there it is kinda deal?

(It probably won't be that, but hey)

Also, it seems a little cart-before-the-horse to worry about whether or not the shows will be connected when we dont' even know if the show is good yet. Shows should be allowed to establish themselves before we hurriedly start cramming them into each others universes like superhero turducken.

Just because publishing does it one way doesn't mean live-action has to do it the exact same way.

Half a year ago you would be right. But they're joining the high-quality original content game and going at it hard. Salem is a bit shaky ,but not bad for a first effort and their secon original series, Manhattan is getting great reviews. They can do Scalped well and as always network is largelly irrelevant anyway, what matters is the team they will pick up to run the show.

Wait, Constantine cancellation is likely?

It's on NBC, on a Friday night. The last Genre show to be put in it's timeslot (Dracula) was canceled. While it's not likely, I will be shocked if it gets more than one season. Of course we'll know more about it's future after it premieres.

Not really, they can go with the Matrix origin. Which I hope they do.
