CBS Orders Supergirl Series

I feel like we missed something special.

People are already "completely sure" that Supergirl is going to fail because it's on CBS. For some weird reason, people are attributing this to the whole "WB/DC hate fun" because instead of putting it on the CW - where the series can be a coming-of-age story crossover w/Arrow and The Flash, and Kara can be a little sister to Barry and Ollie (yeah, I dunno) - it'll be stuffy and boring on CBS.

Twitter is odd sometimes.
People swear they know creative direction based on nothing. I remember when "Flash" was going to be dark and grits because Barry's suit wasn't the right shade of red. lol

this concept isn't bad, either, although I'm still most fond of the Mahmud Asrar concepts I posted earlier.

I hope they nail the costume.

This one was pretty good:

So something similarly "regal" like that would be great.

As much I love girls in skirts... no skirts.

I kind of want her to have a generic kryptonian suit. Isn't supergirl less enamored with earth and its inhabitants than Clark? Default gear would accentuate that.

You can forget any costume without a cape.

Edit: Reading around for the reaction online and nerds never let shit go. People getting huffy at CBS for cancelling the old Flash show. lol

No, not awesome. Not of them are top-tier television. I want my Breaking Bad/True Detective tier comic book show...

Stories told in Lucifer and Scalped comics blew away both Breaking Bad and True Detective. SO it can be done.

But superhero shows are never going to be like this and they shouldn't. It would be boring as hell.

"Ugh DC just dissed Wonder Woman again by giving freaking Supergirl a show! Ughhhhh. And why only a TV show and not a movie? And why is her name Supergirl? DC can't do shit right."

Annnnnnnnnnd scene.

You can always just use the "Marvel would rather make a movie about a talking racoon than one with female or minority lead" as response :D

"I don't know why you're complaining. Marvel clearly has a plan and just because it's taking a little while doesn't mean Black Panther and Ms. Marvel aren't coming. People are just mad at Marvel's success and looking for any reason to diss them. Ughhhhh."

And round and round it goes.

i always love that criticism... I mean it's not like WB/DC haven't fucked up in their own right, but as much as I love Guardians, its lead was still an attractive white dude.

Marvel has two female-led TV shows coming up, though...

but I still don't expect a female-led movie from them anytime soon

So does DC: iZombie and now Supergirl. Three if we include the currently in development Avenger (not technically a DC property, but they did publish comics featuring the character).

I wasn't counting iZombie because it's not superhero-related or even based on a DCU property, and therefore not a "DC show" in the superhero fanboy context that's being discussed here. Not counting shows that are merely "in development," either.

Well..if we're going fanboy-like with definitions then DC has one female lead superhero show, Marvel has none. As neither Carter nor Jessica Jones is superhero (in the case of later, not during when the show is taking place) :)

Peggy doesnt count though in the traditional sense and neither does Jessica in the way that she starts out.

Kara is immediately centered by her alien lineage, abilities and the desire to protect and save people.

Well, fair enough, I am lumping in actual superhero shows with superhero-adjacent shows (shows that are explicitly set in superhero universes but aren't "about" superheroes per se).

I think it'd be overly anal to exclude Jessica Jones from the former category, though. She used to be a superhero, she has powers, and unlike the Agent shows, she actually interacts with superheroes on a regular basis (though who knows how much that'll carry over to Netflix);.

Incidentally, Marvel needs to do a She-Hulk series if they can get the FX to work. Maybe emphasize Jennifer Walters' name in the title so as to avoid the negative Rule 63 associations.

Other than Extant, I can't think of a CBS show that doesn't have

FX work.

Even Person Of Interest has shitty photography at times too. NCIS is one of the worst looking shows on television.

Oh Jessica definitely fits into as well, but it doesn't define the character in the same way it does immediately for Kara. And yes, Jen needs a series badly.

I swear to god The Good Wife and Person of Interest are the only well-shot shows on that network.

That two part for NCIS: New Orleans in NCIS was painful as hell.

On Supergirl's costume, you know it will not have a skirt or the like. I only hope it doesn't bear any resemblance to that crummy white costume the character used once or twice.

Yup.

It's crap.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went this route. 24 year old Kara suddenly finds someone in danger. She's no hero yet, so she has no costume. But what's this? A street vendor selling Superman memorabilia. She quickly buys one of his shirts and it's off to find a quick place to change before rushing to save the day as Supergirl!

blegh.

I really hope they keep her name as Kara and don't make her take on one of her lousy alter egos. Please not Linda Lee...

Why CBS, why not on The CW to go with Arrow and The Flash?

I'm late to respond to this but everyone should know that the "C" in The CW stands for CBS, just as the "W" stand for WB,

The CW was formed out of the combination of the UPN and The WB networks. So CBS getting Supergirl is almost the same as it landing on CBS.

and it landing on CBS might actually be better for shows like Arrow and The Flash since CBS opens up those shows to an much larger audience if they happen to do a few crossovers.

Is Bitten any good even? I feel like she's too good for that.

It's not the best show, but she surprisingly has quite a few nude scenes in the first few episodes. Kept me watching long enough to get invested.
