Cemu Thread: Emulating Wii U Games

Breath of the Wild now running on CEMU.

Video was recorded on following specs: i7-4790K, GTX 780, 8GB RAM. I choose to not alter the speed of the video to best represent how it actually runs. But I did prepare a shader cache so there is no extra suttering. Audio is muted because it is just white noise.

Lots of bugs that make the game unplayable. Physic glitches, rune abilities that require object selection don't work, no water collision, etc. Essentially it's impossible to leave the tutorial area without using a save.

That was quick, wonder how well it runs overall.
I guess the hopes of some people that this won't run on CEMU soon are getting crushed.

Why would anybody hope that? The Wii U is a dead console, if people want to buy a copy of Wii U BotW and play it on their PC how does that negatively impact anyone? At this point its easier to pirate the game for free on Wii U than it is to dump the game and get it running in CEMU.

Edit: I realize there isn't really a rational answer to that question, let's just treat it as me being frustrated with people out loud.

Well.....that was fast. Exzap fixed that unimplemented system call right away lol.

Looks like it has a ways to go until fully playable though. Hopefully the early testers pounding away on it will help speed things along.

No FPS counter on screen, but it certainly looks like it's working. Looks like there's major stuttering on explosion effects. Running around the world looks smooth. The graphics look super flat to me, but maybe that's an emulation error.

Yeah looks like a lot of world detail is simply not there. Seems like there's a lot of unimplemented stuff that the emulator never had to deal with before running other games. Getting to correctly emulated may be quite some time yet.

Awesome, running even better than I expected :). Should be quite playable in a month or two.

Also, does the DLC support means I no longer need to replace regular tracks in Mario Kart with DLC ones?

People want to have made "the right choice" to justify their purchase even though there is no right choice since both options are perfectly viable.

Cemu devs are putting some crazy effort. Not really interested in Zelda, but if I can play it in 4K 60fps, then I might consider picking up a Wii U copy just to see what the fuss is all about.

The time in the bottom right that normally advances 5 minutes every 5 real seconds takes about 7 seconds to advance (minus stuttering), so it looks like it's running around 70% speed. Pretty impressive.

Playing BOTW on an emulator will not magically make it run at 60 fps. It won't go over the max framerate the original system is bound to. Which is 30 for this game.

Example; Zelda games cannot be run at higher framerates despite Dolphin being an incredible emulator with many options. It's just not possible.

Of course, unless CEMU team wants to implement tech that allows framerate caps to be bypassed, which is something I'm pretty sure no emulator has done before.

For all of you Cemu users (pirates):

Breath of the Wild wasn't made for PC. It wasn't made for you. When the team poured their heart out for the game, spending thousands of hours on art, music, story, characters, landscape, fun mechanics, anything that made the game what it is they weren't think of you- an overweight pirating neckbeard who doesn't have any respect for art or effort because they've never experienced either in their lives and probably never will. The ones they were thinking of, the people who have enough love and respect for art to purchase the intended console and the game at full price are the only ones who get the full experience as it was meant to be. If they are human beings, the emulating PC shit race is more akin to a leech, no, a tick.

lol saving this for future use

60fps is probably not going to happen for a while, nothing emulated on cemu so far that ran at 30fps on wii U has been available at 60fps on cemu

This Zelda is a little particular:

- Forced double buffered vsync.
- Logic not tied to framerate.
- Menu runs at 60fps.

So maybe the game is able to run at 60fps with enough power, depending on whether it is deliberately capped during gameplay.

This means we'll be able to summon stuff available only through amiibos?

amiibo support has been in for a while :) though limited to read-only uses, so it works for unlocking stuff in mario kart 8 but not for the new features in splatoon where it also records onto the amiibo. I believe the amiibo support should work fine in BotW.

One quick question: you need both the console and the game to legally emulate it, right?

Of course not, that would be stupid.

You only theoretically need a console if the emulator needs a BIOS file or NAND copy, as the only way to legally get one is dumping it from your own console.

if you want to dump the game, you need a wii u console.

so the only way to play botw in cemu without pirating it is by owning a wii u. :P
