Sounds about right.

Sad thing is, I count 16 squares that are offensive issues versus only about 3 for the defense; that's how bad the offense is playing right now versus how well the defense has been playing since our DC was let go. Gives me hope that we can still end up salvaging the season if the offense gets their shit together.

I don't think we can go that far, unless you want recruitment of ALL players to continue even after they're at a school.

I don't want schools to be able to recruit athletes at enrolled at other schools, no.

But I don't think students should be restricted or penalized by their university or by the NCAA from transferring to another school and then participating in varsity athletics at said school. At all.

I don't. Fuck Georgia Southern. I remember when they came to Athens in 2000(back when I was a student) their fans talked SOOOOOOOO much shit about how they were big-time now and that they were going to surprise Georgia, Adrian Peterson (their all-whatever RB at the time, ended up playing in the NFL for a bit) was a heisman candidate, etc etc etc. And I believe we spanked them like 35-0 or something. South Ga rednecks. Ga Southern is where you go when you can't get into UGA.
Our fault for not dropping to our knees as soon as we entered Sanford Stadium and worshipping the all-powerful Bulldogs. We may not have stadium with a capacity of 90,000, be a member of a P5 conference, or have been 1980 national champions, but we have a lot of pride and love for our school and team and we carry that with us.

A lot of our fanbase also supports UGA. We don’t play in the same conference, compete for the same recruits, and barely compete for state-wide exposure. Every three or four years when the Eagles go to Athens however you can expect us to be loud, proud, and believe deep down that if we play to our full potential we’ve got as good a shot as any to win.

There is a 100% chance that taking away transfer restrictions would lead to widespread recruiting of players enrolled at other schools.

I joined for Erin Brockovich discussion
The way I understand this players story, she is no longer qualified for the immediate transfer rule, as she has already transferred once. She's up against the standard 1 year wait the NCAA has for everyone, and she doesn't want to do that.

The NCAA could still ban it and then arbitrarily enforce it in the same manner they enforce all of their other regulations.

I honestly wouldn't even care. In pretty much all discussions like this, I support giving the student-athletes as much power and flexibility as they can possibly have.

She graduated, applied for UA's MBA program and was denied admission. There's literally no upside for the University in continuing to be obstructionist here. If the NCAA independently denies her transfer request, then that sucks for, but the University should not be seen as standing in her way. The article should be about how the NCAA is blocking her immediate eligibility despite the University's efforts in assisting one of its graduates, but it's not because assholery.

I'm all for empowering students, but nope. Can't go with you on this journey.

As you should. I enjoy those games better than our annual matchup with Georgia Tech.

Yes. It's bullshit and an embarrassment to the University. The hypocrisy exists on two levels which makes it even worse: (1) the whole Jacob Coker situation and (2) Daisha Simmons herself was a transfer student from... Rutgers I think.

Yeah she transferred from Rutgers.

I agree, I enjoyed the Ga Southern game far more than any UGA game in recent memory as well. Southern has good fans. They make a lot of noise, and support their team but they are a pretty respectful bunch. That game was a good time for all.

I'll just leave this here:

Why would Michigan even want him? Has he ever done any major recruiting work? Has he even proven himself a great coach? Winning the Super Bowl with that TB defense built by Dungy was not the hardest thing in the world to do,

I would think he would sooner return to the Raiders than join the Michigan dumpster fire.

Just thinking out loud here, but since he (a) did not become Michigan's head coach upon graduation and (b) worked as head coach for other organizations, Michigan has a pretty strong breach-of-contract claim against Gruden and is likely entitled to damages.

I thought it would be interesting to see who the top 4 teams were in the BCS rankings. So, I have replicated the BCS rankings just to see what they'd look like this year in the first year of the CFB playoff.

Three caveats:

  1. The formula I used is identical to that of the 2004 season, and very nearly the same as what has been used since 2005. The difference being that in 2004 the AP poll was used, while from 2005-2013, the Harris poll was used to determine one half of the human component
  2. The BCS formula used Sagarin's "Predictor" ranking in its computation. I am using Sagarin's final ranking, which is a synthesis of the Predictor method along with an "Elo" method
  3. Billingsly might have changed his formula this year as well. Regardless, I am using the same computers as what the BCS used, but some might be incorporating MOV (margin of victory) now; Sagarin's synthesis ranking definitely incorporates MOV

Here is the would be BCS ranking for Week 7:

Three SEC teams in the playoffs? Sounds like a BCS ranking all right.

I like how Anderson is still keeping his Pac-12 loyalty going strong. Arizona debuts at #1 in his ranking.

I feel like the playoff committee is going to be condemned if their choices are different from the BCS rankings in any shape or form.
There really won't be an official BCS ranking, so I'm not sure how much the media will play that up.

Don't ever have a job with extensive travel and do grad school at the same time.

Holy hell I'm going to go crazy.
I can relate immensely. I currently live in Tampa, commute to Gainesville once a week for grad school, and travel to France twice a month for work. It's hectic as fuck.

Also has Arizona at #31 and Oregon at #11. The scary thing is that we actually used this system for so long.
Despite this, the top two teams in the country still played every year in the National Championship.

Did they? The years 2001, 2003, and 2004 would all certainly disagree with you. And you can certainly make a case that there were years when more than two teams were worthy of playing for the championship (2012 and 2011 immediately come to mind).

that's BS and you know it

It really isn't. BCS decided a number 1 and number 2 team in the country, and those two teams played in a National championship game to decide who would be MNC.

This is a vast improvement on the silly bullshit system we had before.

I don't feel good about any of my picks but I'm figuring the upsetters are the ones who lose this week.
Also, GT fans are annoying little shits, nobody cares about your perennial 7-5 football team, go away. And yes, nobody cares about Duke football either, but at least Duke fans aren't delusional enough to think differently.

I thought the rule was no picks by 2. I don't pick by Vegas rules, there is no money involved here. If I think a team is a field goal better than another, I'm picking them by 3, not 4.

You're never going to have a tie game, there's a 3 point cushion. So the least you should pick by is 4. But if you want to pick by 3, that's your call. Don't get mad when Sir CornTiger changes your tag (even though I don't think he can do that?).

He's never said anything about it before, and I know the home team gets 3 automatically. I'll just change it, but I think its dumb if I think ACME State is going to beat University of Ajax 20-17 and the difference is 3, that I can't pick 3.
