Champions League Football (soccer) match suspended because the 4th official referred to someone as "the black guy"

Is negro actually used in Europe? Mad Men and other 60s movies ive seen make it sound like it was fairly acceptable to refer to Black people as Negros. Not sure if thats going to fly today.

Tbf, the 4th ref should've called by the player's name.
You know the world is too sensitive and walk on the glass shards

It was a member of the coaching staff not a player. The coaches name is Pierre Webo and he is the only non Turkish man on the coaching staff.

Well it literally means black in a few countries so yes.

Ok. From a common-sense perspective, the match shouldn't be stopped since I doubt anyone can remember all the coaching staff names.
It just so happens to be one black guy stands out in a coaching team.

It's used in Portuguese at least.

In Brazil, "negro" is the socially accepted term to refer to a black person. Using "Preto" (that translates directly to "Black") can be seen as pejorative and/or offensive if said by a white/light skin person.

Nah. This shit has to stop. You don't have to refer to someone with a different skin tone with a different word, it's easy as that.

Why not? It's a descriptive adjective.

Tall, short, thin, fat, black, asian, white, olive skin, middle-eastern, brown, ugly, beautiful, handsome, blond, brunet, redhead, ginger, with glasses, with *color* eyes, with long/short nose, with wide mouth, bald, long hair, short hair, bearded, strong, muscular, athletic, with mustache, young, old... we can't describe people anymore?

The only thing I don't get is assigning a secondary "nationality" to people: African-American, Lebanese-American or whatever... I don't see the white folks referring to them as English-American or German-American or Canadian American... so yeah, that's kind of weird, but notice, here's nationality, not necessarily descriptive adjectives.

"The guy in the shorts and the shirt"
"Who?"
"The guy near the ball"
"Who?"
"The one with the tattoos!"
"Who?!"
"The one on the ground!"
"Who?!"
"The one that is behaving like a child!"
"Who?!!?"
"THE GODDAMN BLACK GUY!"
"Sound the alarms!"

And yet the media do this in nearly every article they publish.

Get called a racist if you 'dont see colour' get called a racist if you do.

I look forward to these same zealots showing their commitment to racial equality should anyone ever be described as 'white'.

Lol. The Reeing begins.

Bonus irony: "...But it's not okay to force other people to have the same opinion on this matter." is part of one of their earlier statements to someone else.

Very quick to tell people how to behave. Not very good at practicing what he preaches.

I don’t quite get what you want to say, in regards to me. I think we can all agree, that IF truly racism is involved in this, nobody should support this. Or are there people on this forum, that openly support racism? I commented on this thread right away, and it seemed to me that the referee called someone the n word. But it’s clear that the referee might have had no bad intentions, so I can understand when people misunderstood my comment I made earlier.

You guys don’t have to jump on me like that, it’s ok if we misunderstood each other :)

No. I understand you.

Maybe you shouldn't leap to tone control a conversation. Maybe, after being called out for doing it you shouldn't try to insinuate that people who aren't as quick to jump to conclusions as you are, are racist. Maybe you shouldn't do either of those things at any time, let alone 24 hours after signing up to a community and dedicating your time to a thread about a community who's users habitually come to this one to call people racists and attempt to control tone.

Maybe.

What I find hilarious is that when Micah Richards (former Man City player, football pundit) said that this was an example of ignorance and not racism, which I believe this is what it was, black people online labelled him a "c*on in a monkey suit", for the context Micah Richards is black himself. It's similar to John Barnes who was and still is attacked mercilessly by the BAME community for his comments on the Liam Neeson situation a while back.

Nothing like fighting fake racism with actual racism folks.

Maybe you are right. Maybe I don’t agree with you on certain things, but I can admit that I shouldn’t have jumped to a conclusion so fast. And don’t worry, you won’t see me post often here on offtopics and politics ;)

Worried?

If I sounded worried then I've clearly failed to communicate effectively.

Post as and where you wish. I'm just a pleb and have no say in what you can do here.

Nothing more than an example of how things get ridiculous when political correctness is pushed to the extremes.
Especially considering as "negru" is just the descriptive adjective for black in romanian. If they wanted to actually insult the guy, they have a completely different word for it.
But hey, somebody decided he's getting offended, gotta throw the match and make a scene out of it.

Do I sound worried? Post as and where you wish. Say reasoned stuff with integrity and I've no doubt the community will embrace you.

It’s okay, I hope we are cool. I don’t want any bad blood here, right from the beginning. I don’t post often on politics and stuff like that, therefore my post could have been more thought out.

They should just call off the entire Champions League for this disaster. Imagine wasting football time to protest, because someone called a black man......."black".

Coach was getting heated, heard the guy say something that sounds like the Nword, used it to attack, and then didn't back down when he got a reasonable explanation for why the word was used.

So of course he is in the wrong and goes to the race card to save face. Everyone has dealt with someone like that, blames you for their blow up and then starts slinging whatever shit they can when their cornered.

Just saw the NPC programming of the mind virus with the aftermath.
