Man, as much as people try to compare Snake and Splinter Cell, you can't. One is about style, stealth, killing shit and being the most hardcore badass on the face of the planet, and the other is Splinter Cell. It's just not fair.

SNAKE SUCKERS AM CRY :lol

Will you ever stop fighting?

Deepthroat is right, though.
PS2 owners can try both games while Xbricks only one. Variety is where it counts.

I'll probably rent this...

The demo did nothing for me (still linear as hell), though, but the multiplayer is as appealing as ever...

I wouldn't exactly call the PS2 and Xbox versions the same game ;)

SC is all about the awesome vs multiplayer, and now, co-op. MGS is about the story and intriguing single player experience. Plus, they play totally differently. I tried playing the CT Demo after beating MGS3, and got my ass kicked.

:lol yikes.

Except for the sneaky sneaky this and MGS and SC don't seem that similar to me. I don't know why it brings out the douchebag in so many of you.

You've got that backwards. One is a about being a gay naked blonde idiot flipping head over heels all over the place with a convoluted idiotic story and some retarded communication sequences thrown in even to make it even dumber, and the other is Splinter Cell.

Considerably lower. I saw a review somewhere and it got almost 2 points lower than the Xbox version I believe.

I think I read somewhere that they had to break the PS2 levels up or change the game significantly to fit into the PS2 memories requirements. Not sure where I read that though.

Ugh... that's why "The Big Bad West" won't ever love "The Small and Gay East".

ehh? Hardly the same version, PS2 is using Pandora Tomorow engine for gods sake

Damn it!

I filtered (edited 20 times) the shit out of my post and here's what remains:

PS2 owners can still play SC3. It's a much worse version (according to reviews) but they can STILL finish and enjoy it.
If you have a Xbox then the Xbox version is a no-brainer.
If you haven't, don't sweat, you can still buy this game on PS2.

That's my whole point, happy now?

SC's single player should never be compared to MGS'. I know it's hard for some of you to resist but you really need to work on that problem.

Actually the PS2 version is VERY PLAYABLE and if you don't compare it to the Xbox version, it's one of the best PS2 achievement ever. PS2 owners shouldn't fear AT ALL.
Imagine a normal mapped MGS3 that would have been on Xbox and would have higher scores... you could still play the excellent MGS3 on the PS2 as it is now.

PS2 single player levels are a little bit shorter and it loads while you play. Nothing major to kill the experience.
PS2 coop is completely different than the Xbox. They did a unique coop mode on PS2 because it's almost impossible to do the same as the Xbox version. It the same story in overall, same gameplay at it's basis but the maps are wildly different.
Putting the PS2 coop mode in it's context, it is also excellent imo. They manage to create a fun coop mode on a hardware that couldn't handle it AT ALL. Oh and remind me in wich PS2 game you say a splitcreen mode at 20-30 fps with particles lightning and specular lighting.

To make a story short: best version in comparison = Xbox. But the PS2 version is incredible taking into account it's on the PS2. I don't know how they do this but they litterally pull off a game using every single bit of power possible to excerpt from PS2 hardware. You can almost hear the pain lamentations of the machine when you play.

Snake gets knife and instant-takedown moves......then Sam Fisher gets them. One leads as the other follows. ;)

MGS ought to swipe the co-op modes from Splinter Cell, though.

Do you have to constantly babysit the camera like in the demo??

I like Splinter Cell....I think its a good game...

But as good as MGS3???

Don't make me laugh....

Buddy, I like MGS3 as much as the next nerd, but let's not go there with the camera system, eh? :) I'd rather "babysit" Splinter Cell's camera than to ever EVER have to play a game with a camera like MGS3 again.

My god guys, this is only 2 STYLES of camera and both are great. The camera in MGS3 is incredibly well-done and reinforce the gameplay and style of the game. You may not like the camera but it's because of your taste and not that the camera is shitty. And many manual camera style games are shitty too you know. But if it's what's your prefer as camera style, you will be less inclined to see if it's lacking or not.

in a stealth game where you dont have radar and have to switch modes just to see 2 feet in front of you is bad design. Lets not kid our selves MGS3 had a whole lot of trial and error as well.

not as much as Splinter cell games of course. Hell I can't even recall any trail and error stuff in MGS3.

yea ofcrouse. But it still is there in MGS3. Guards have same routines and such.

That's again just a "point of view". Playing a stealth game, i think it's better to have the tightest field of view possible. If you would be there yourself, you can't see as far and as much stuff at the same time. Close third person view and first person view is enough for me.
The only thing i see we could argue about here is that there could have been a button to put the camera behind you, or the camera could rotate with your character. But i still like the way it's done now in MGS, it reinforces the thrill and reminds you to be carefull and stealthy.
We are also in a game and the camera is very contextual in this game. They didn't want a camera to be realistic as possible but to reinforce the gameplay and feel of the game. I think it's extremely well done for that. It also calls (and help to devellops?) your sense of spatial vision (something i personally really like to use).

I thought the guard AI in MGS3 was really good. But lets not forget one thing:

HITMAN CONTRACTS IS THE BEST STEALTH GAME EVER!

edit, trail and error:

Goto Israel to get your gun, discovered by enemy = game over, restart game. Splinter Cell 1 and 2 are completely based on trail and error. But I still love them both.

While its at it maybe it could steal the realism, camera, graphics and online play. One leads the other follows :lol

well atleast me and Doom_Bringer agree on one game. I too am more of a hitman fan then MGS3 and SPlinter cell.

Yes Hitman series is awesome, can't wait for blood money. I like all three equally though. I have got Splinter Cell 1, 2, MGS 1, 2, 3 and Hitman Silent Assassin and Contracts in my collection.

I've been wanting to get into the Splinter Cell and Hitman series. I played the first SC on the GameCube, but never touched any of the other games yet. My platform choices are PC, PS2, and GC. Which version(s) would you guys recommend? Keep in mind, multiplayer isn't really a big deal for me in regard to the older titles; I'm much more interested in the single player aspects.

Definitely go with the PC if your rig can handle the graphics, if it can't then go with the PS2. I hear the Splinter Cell games absolutely suck on the GCN.

Get PC versions of both Hitman and Splinter Cell. The GC & PS2 version have a lot of graphical problems.
