It's a real gray area. I feel sorry for people who are born with an attraction to kids... I mean they can't help that anymore than your average straight/gay person can help being the way they are, and yet you want to see those same people pay in the most severe way possible when that will is broken. Also, after they have done it once, their own concept of self-worth as a morally good person, I'm sure, would be shattered, continuing the spiral downwards towards accepting being what society refers to as "evil", and end up kind of embracing the role which has been determined for them.
Of course, when it comes to someone like Savile, there doesn't seem to be much of a gray area. The way he boasts about it, and his tactic of 'hiding in plane sight' comes across as particularly remorseless and tasteless.

Funnily enough, I was only wondering last week why The Cosby Show isn't currently repeated on any of the satellite channels.

Also the only *cured* one, was basically a castrated man? I remember Goya posting a link (in another thread) about it not being actually curable, but just something they could try to keep under control.

Yep. It just shows as a society we still don't really know how to deal with this problem. That place being set up 'outside of the law' if you will kind of confirms it. You can't keep them locked up forever, yet nobody wants them on the streets, either.
I'm actually more interested in how we treat non offending paedophiles.
Not implying that a criminal loses every right or anything, but the equation between the two is fairly common and, i think, dangerous.
People with this problem should not be pushed in hiding and see society as an hostile force, they should seek help before they fuck up (both themselves and some else's life).
Yeah, that's an interesting point. The problem being when the sickness has already been deemed incurable, then who is going to seek help in the first place? Outside of volunteering for chemical/actual castration, I don't see any way these people could ever operate in the real world in a normal manner.
Could very well be. It'll be interesting to see if any family members themselves eventually come forward like all the others.

Yeah, the acid-tongued rhetoric regarding this subject is completely counter-intuitive to aiding people with these 'unwholesome desires', and reducing the possibility of people being abused. Pedophiles (and to a lesser extent, hebephiles) are arguably regarded as the worst types of people in society, irrespective of circumstance, to an extent that even if someone was to voice the nature of their issues, they would be hounded and ostracised and hated.
We are no closer to tackling the issue, and in some cases, further away than ever. How many people have these desires, want to seek help, but are then so afraid of the repercussions that they remain silent, trying and perhaps then failing to suppress such desires? I would guess it would be many.
I might be wrong, but I thought part of the problem was that fiddy-kiddlers don't consider their actions to be wrong at all? Do they even have any desire to seek a 'cure' for something they consider to be perfectly normal, or even recognise that what are they are doing in considered unacceptable behaviour in society?
I remember there was that poster on GAF who referred to it as 'Boy Love' and started citing history to defend it. They considered it educational for the victim.

They already have. His nephew claims Jimmy took him to a house party in the 60's. There were only men present and other kids. The kids then were taken up into the bedrooms.

One handed photos in of a 'prominent Tory MP' raping a boy, and others into police. Clearly identifiable. Police did nothing, and now say they can't be found. He named 60 people in his statement, at the enquiry he was told all names had to be removed.
This is disgusting.

This really is looking to be more Catholic Church-level than just one or two isolated (though substantial) rings. I don't know if there's going to be any way to try and keep a lid on things, as May seemed to be attempting.
Amazing this is all coming about because of someone like Savile.

I bloody hope if there is ANY sign of the authorities trying to cover up/block/get in the way of the new investigations people had better get on the street and protest. Someone who met Bruno around that time they said to me that he was a nice guy but they think he had taken a few too many punches to the head. I think that person met him doing the same sorts of charity run that Savile was known for.

I don't think that's what the people want to hear at the moment, Mr Cameron...
I'd say the danger in this being swept under the rug in an alliance of self-interest is significantly greater than innocent people's names being dragged through the mud. It certainly doesn't look any better when considering how some of the accused have significant ties the Tories.
