The LARP is strong in this one!

I'm no fan of Nolan but I'm thinking that maybe they're putting these out to throw people off and the actual movie will be different and much better than these shots.
Nolan's camera work is on another level, and most behind the scenes photos on any set look unimpressive. That's not to say this will turn out good.

For sure, it won't look like this in the final production, movies never do.

I'm hoping they have some sort of post production effect to make the armour look bronze.

Yeah, I'm not doubting his camera work these shots just look so bad and as someone else said anachronistic. I'm going to go rewatch Interstellar or The Prestige I liked those.

I was watching Oppenheimer yesterday and I noticed how many known actors make a random one or two-scene cameo in that movie.

Just at the most random intervals a character would be played by a known actor for no reason. My favorite was Rami Malek who shows up, hands someone something and fucks off. Pretty sure he doesn't even have any lines.

I'm still 50/50 on this whole thing being a rug pul and Nolan doing something fucking wild.

Everything just feels off. It's so bizarre.

Or maybe someone forced Nolan to do this.
During the first 20 minutes, they get to a beach with ... abandoned buildings?

Camera cuts to Cobb's totem finally stoping

"Inception 2" comes up on the screen

2026. Well, at least we'll have The Return to scratch the itch. I've also been thinking about finally reading The Odyssey and The Illiad so 2025 might be a perfect time for it.

The Iliad is the definition of boring, hope you like pages and pages of: so and so son of so who married so and so from the family of so known for so and so... more than literature is like a family history for noble greeks

Daaaaaaamn, the hottest of hot takes!

Next you will tell me Moby Dick is juvenile, Atlas Shrugged is simplistic, Ulysses is trite, and Dante's Inferno is repetitive :P

Nah, the Odyssey is mighty fine. I have a particular beef against the Iliad from my times studying Ancient Greek (specifically ancient attic, aka Athen's greek) during high school.

Dante, is however pretty sus ;D

Oh, and if you looking at the greeks do stop by the plays, Aristophanes is a riot.

Nothing better than zoomed-in pictures from filming on-set to judge a movie's final result.
You have no idea how much a trip to the cinema bloody costs here in this part of Blighty.

So no, I'm not going to spend a console game's worth of money to go out to see a film that isn't anything less than great.

Holy shit...where do you live?

Here in Portugal one ticket is like 7 euros...and plenty of outlets do 50% promos for 3.5€ or something like that.

The popcorn menus are the same price as the tickets.

(our minimum wage is like 820€ though)

The UK, or should I say YooKay now?

Don't worry. You have some of the problems we have, and digital nomads will ever more price you out of your main cities.

I'm so lucky to have Alamo Drafthouses near me. Reasonable tickets for nice seats, pretty tolerable food, decent beer, and aggressive "no talking/phones" enforcement. Almost the only way to see films in theater.

Troy, at least Homeric Troy, is just one strata among many entombed under ruins.

Not much of a backdrop for filming.

I have been there and the ruins are lovely, but confusing. Because of the excavations there are older layers on top of younger layers, it is all spread out and weird. There is a big Trojan horse right outside the entrance so their legend in cemented in history.

FFS, what is wrong with costume designers in Hollywood.
This is supposed to be an ancient epic, not some super hero movie.
I hope Nolan isn't taking the same road as Ridley Scott.

With $300 million they could build ships and armor and locations to spec, easily.
Maybe this whole thing will feature a massive number of Taylor Swift songs, and that's where 150 mill is going????

'Cause otherwise this makes no sense, unless he is gonna use some sort of AI CG overlay to make everything glowy and sparkly or something. There MUST be an in-camera effect that can dress up these shit costumes.

And I hope we get AT LEAST 10 minutes of Tom Holland using a bronze razor to scrape his cheeks clean to justify this boy-man casting.

My guess is that this is a result of Nolan locking in an aggressive release date right off the bat. LotR's preproduction to craft all the authentic armor and weapons took over two years. The scale of LotR was much larger though.

I heard a historical blacksmith in Greece was contacted by Nolan's team but the blacksmith basically got ghosted before any details could be hashed out. Suggests to me that they're speedrunning. Hence plastic armor glued together.

And building ships takes time, so they did the closest they could find on short notice by renting an old viking longship.

It's really too bad.

That blacksmith is a master craftsman, the armor is gorgeous and historically accurate for all the period armor he creates.

It's a shame he wasn't finally included in the production, but they're no Greeks on the cast either, so I'm not shocked. My family is Greek so yes I'm a little salty about the casting choices lol

armor looks like some plastic play outfit I'd have as a kid where it comes with a wooden sword lol

Ah, yes, he's responsible for that armor I posted earlier in the thread. Very impressive work.
