Some of them require low health or high crime or super low happiness, stuff that would pretty much destroy your city for a long time before possibly slowly getting better. And they don't stay unlocked between cities. So how the hell is anyone supposed to achieve those?

I went after the Posh Mall, which required 4% tax rate across everything, for 20 straight weeks. I was raking in the cash before I attempted it. By the end of the 20th week, I had to taken out three loans and hit bankruptcy. Almost killed my ciy.

The unlocks actually aren't thaaaat bad. Many of them you can just cheese if you have enough money saved up.

One of the hardest was the 20,000 squares of commercial, but I got that by making a huge grid out in the middle of nowhere, dezoning my high density commercial bit by bit, and zoning in the large grid with low density.

20K square of commercial isn't bad or even something I would call ridiculous. But hitting 50% unemployment, or 1K abandoned buildings is beyond stupid.

Yes they do. I unlocked the court house by starting a new city, and raising the taxes so everyone was unhappy, once I unlocked the police.

For what it's worth, that was the only landmark I had to start a new city to get. All the other landmarks I unlocked in my main city.

Playing a new city on hard mod with the mod that reduces income to families who cant make their trip to work (resulting in lost wages > no tax collection > eventual abandonment). Managed to do pretty well by using pedestrian walkways and free buses.

But I am running out of space. New tiles cost 100-200K, so I need to be super efficient to afford moving outwards.

Traffic is particularly bad. Everything here is two ways, any advice on improving traffic??

Those aren't too bad, actually.

For the unemployment, just kill half your industry. Wait until you unlock the landmark, then rezone everything quick.

For the abandoned buildings, make a whole shitload of 1x1 buildings. Remove water to the whole area, and wait for them to go abandoned.

It didn't work for me when I built 300 water pumps to unlock the Services Service Building. When I reloaded my save it was locked again. So it doesn't seem to set any setting in the global game settings. That was the cheapest service I could find and it cost $4000 each. That's $1.2M if you're doing 300 of just that. (I have 100 services already so I only had to build 200)

If you can tell me how to keep them unlocked (Maybe reloading my save did it? I should have just deleted the 200 pumps I built since I have $5,000,000 anyway.) I'd love to know. I'd hate to have to start that fresh every time.

This game's pretty great as-is but there's so much I wanna see. Beaches, marinas, zoos... military bases... alien attacks...

btw do tourists actually stay anywhere (hotels in the commercial zone?) or do they just drive in, gawk at 'random park #3', and drive out again?

Dam started a city with hardmode on and service build and maintenance costs doubled mods on. Had to restart 4 times and take a loan to even start my city :'(
You have to adjust service budgets, take loans to expand services and get enough tax revenue going a shit load more micromanagement.

They did say the base game is just a base that they'll build future updates on. Hopefully not all of them are paid DLC, but at least the modding community seems to be really active.

Tourists don't really do anything right now.

Game has a bright future.

And tourism should be its own district, sort of.

Hotels should be a district in my opinion, with casinos and other attractions acting as areas of tourism interest.

Okay I'm back too far and spending way too much time playing catch up when I come back to this OT, that's an amazing amount of posts for such a "small" game.

Did you save the game after you built the pumps?

Fuck this game! I couldnt fall asleep last night until 0100 coz I was planning roadlayouts in my head.. And I had to get up to work at 0500..

Im gonna start over a third time. I keep getting stressed and overexpand with to little planning for the future. I end up with isolated neighbourhoods and no good way to hook them up. And fuck oneway streets. They mess up service coverage too much for me. :'(

Is there any way to improve the graphics (mostly I'm thinking downsampling/forcing proper AA) without recurring to mods and blocking achievements?

I recall there was some discussions, dozens of pages ago, about forcing FXAA via Nvidia panel, but there also was someone saying something against it
or something
, and I can't find it anymore (nor I'm sure it was here or on Reddit...).

You could use this mod which enables achievements http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407055819

You might have to start a new save though, I'm not sure.

There's already a mod which enable achievement while using mods! Modception!

Is there any way to un-fuck utterly fucked up bus lines, I can't seem to remove them and they're just all over the place with broken connections everywhere and people are sending mean tweets to me and I don't know how to handle this sort of pressure.

To remove a bus line you can click on a bus that belong to the line you want to erase and then click to modify line. Not intuitive, the lines management need an improvement

Tried disabling tilt shift? It already uses SMAA, so it shouldn't need FXAA (SMAA is an improved version of FXAA), and tilt shift adds a soft blur to things which will interfere with how SMAA/FXAA works.

Tilt shift is already turned off. My problem is the jaggies, not the blur. :)

But, now that I know that I can mod achievements inside mods inside games, I'm gonna use the downsample mod and live happily ever after.

Any word yet when the bug (design?) of parks satisfying commercial greatly will be fixed?

It's a catch 22. In order for residential buildings and stuff to upgrade you need things like parks. But if you build parks it kills your commercial demand since it satisfies it, that means you can't build commercial and thus your industry suffers because it can't sell to commercial. If you decide not to place parks then your residential buildings don't upgrade.

My city right now that is fairly large (40k) is getting a lot of problems with this now. It doesn't seem so apparent early on but definitely later.

Predictably, my first city was a clusterfuck, reaching about 5k before my puny roads buckled under the weight of the trash collectors and featuring the worst designed bypass of all time:

It's really fun though.

It's pretty simple to go into your asset manager and throw together a quick 4x4 park with all tourism values set to 0. It's pretty fun too, certainly not a hassle to spend some time on and make several sizes, flavours, if you're of a mind to.

Once you have at least one 'fixed' park, open the save file and methodically replace each and every existing leisure ploppable with your customs.

Not a perfect solution of course, and the sooner CO get a hotfix out the better, but (for me, anyway) it's preferable to playing with the current weird parks.

The game uses SMAA?

Whatever it was doing, it's a joke. I'd rather use FXAA injected by the drivers seeing as FXAA does a good job at eliminating jaggies, including these caused by tree movement.

Even some tilt shift effect shouldn't reduce the necessity of AA on parts in focus.

Another mod idea (does this one exist already?) is giant goddamn arrows in traffic view that show me where my one way streets are

Also is there a way to randomise the models for set buildings? I'd like to have random designs for clinics, parks, fire stations etc. even if they do the same thing.

You could have just created a new save file.
Yeah, I'm stupid. Somehow I never thought to do that. I just thought once it unlocked it was unlocked and just reloaded my save. It's very unintuitive that it doesn't commit the unlock until a file save is performed seeing as it's a global unlock and not just a local one.

I know for the future. And can just do it again. Did anyone order 200 water pumps?

I like to read the green areas while plopping down a service building as "excellent coverage" where it's extremely likely to be responsive.

Anything beyond that will depend heavily on traffic conditions, and then there's a maximum distance before nothing helps. Maybe they should have a "yellow" coverage that shows up for areas where coverage depends a lot on traffic conditions. Think of it as areas where if the traffic is perfectly clear, it'll be able to make it, but heavy traffic, not so much.
